Re: Ward F: Richardson opposes low-income housing - No "more projects for poor people bunched togeth

I agree 100% that the poor in these ghettoes are affected more by crime, etc. than those not in these areas.

However, everyone is affected by crime emanating from the projects. You don't have to be Einstein to realize that projects and ghettoes breed dysfunctional behavior. Just look at Paris, where all the poor africans and arabs were stuck in the suburbs.

And if you've ever been to the projects as I have on many occassions, you would know that the language and reading skills of many of the residents (parents as well as teenagers) is sub-par. If you're only surrounded by people speaking Ebonics, then you speak Ebonics.

Open your eyes, Mr. Wolfe. And wouldn't you think Ms. Richardson knows whats better for her district.

Last time, I checked almost all of the crime was coming from a few neighborhoods where the poor/underprivileged/under-educated are concentrated. If housing projects didn't create such problems, do u not think Ms. Richardson would welcome them with open arms?

Get real! Half the kids (teenagers) around the projects or MLK can barely speak proper english, let alone read. All they really seem to care about is listening to the latest 50 Cent song. The truth can be harsh.

Dear Mr. Wolf -
The affluent in general don't get housing subsidies and in general affluent people (in general) make sure their children get an education and are not on the streets causing problems for the rest of society.

Why should the government continue to subsidize the cycle of poverty and criminality that comes from the projects. Why not force these people to change for the better.

I agree that poor people should not be housed together in just one neighborhood, but if they are and are receiving subsidized housing then I think society should demand that they send their children to school and learn and to stay out of trouble.

Great to see that the MTA and NJ transit are cooperating on setting discounted fares for joint service.

i would advise you to look for places closer to downtown or journal square, or even the heights. summitt near belmont can be quite iffy. the fact that you're asking suggests that you may have doubts about the area.

Whether it was a real gun or a lighter, the kid should get a harsh sentence. The effect on the victim was the same.

I think congestion pricing is great and long overdue. I do, however, think the charge should be something like $15 instead of $8 with ALL the money going into mass transit projects.

If London can do it, then there's no reason why NY can't succeed at it.

I wonder if it would make sense to extend the light rail to Staten Island as well as Newark airport.

Sort of a shame that Healy can't be impeached. Now I see why Cunningham was despised by the Democratic machine.

I find the City's actions even more outrageous. I can understand Toll Bros actions and motives, but the fact that the City would just let the developers do as they wish is appaliing.

Someone should start up a fund to sue the City to force them to implement the Plan. I will gladly donate. What about petitions!

Also, with the trouble that Toll is having with their developments in Brooklyn, I am surprised that they or JC would trust them to build a quality building

Toll Brothers Has a Secret

Toll Brothers (TOL - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr) CEO Robert Toll said on the company's recent earnings call that sales of the company's Brooklyn condos have been going "pretty strong," but he made no mention of the pricing problems at the developments.
In recent weeks, the homebuilder slashed prices by nearly 20% to sell a block of condo units that have less-than-desirable views in the first tower of Northside Piers, TheStreet.com has learned. What's more, the company appears to be having trouble selling the remaining 11 units that also suffer from poor views at North 8, a nearby project that has had these units on the market since October 2006.

Toll is building both developments along the waterfront in Brooklyn's Williamsburg section, which is a five-minute train ride across the East River to Manhattan. The area will eventually be home to numerous condo developments and parks as part of a rezoning plan approved by the city two years ago.

Over the past decade, Williamsburg has transformed itself from a cheap living destination for artists to a gentrified, pricey extension of Manhattan. While Toll's luxury condos would seem to be a surefire hit in the ever-expanding area, the company may have trouble finding premium pricing for the developments.

Lior Barak, who handles new Brooklyn condo sales for real estate firm Prudential Douglas Elliman, says that there is a lot of demand for housing in Williamsburg, but the Toll projects will be somewhat separated from the neighborhood itself.

I hink JC's politicians really lack imagination, which is why the place will always be 2nd tier compared to places like Hoboken, Weehawken, Brooklyn.

Healy seems to think that leadership means giving the developers what they want.

Gee, I wonder how many years these thugs would get if they're ever caught. I guess they might get what a few months to a year.

Why shouldn't they be locked away for life, or at least 25 years?

Lock these kids up. Send them to a military training school. These kids are monsters. Their parents should also be charged with negligence or with failure to properly supervise/raise their children.

Does anyone think that 80% of Jersey City's crime is coming from 1-3 distinct areas. What can the City do to stop this crazy stuff from happening? More police? harsher punishment? Why is there so much criminality coming out of the Bergen-Lafayette and West Bergen and Greenville areas? Every week sometimes is shot over there?

I can't believe that they would be permitted to use the same ugly facing on a new hotel that they use on the doubletree. how retarded is that?

I guess it's true that there must be something in the water in new jersey that makes politicians and planners so short-sighted, etc.
