Re: PATH service suspended due to smoke at Christopher Street

It should not be a question of neighbors wanting this or that when it comes to public safety. The bottom line is that the Port Authority did not push hard enough.

The Port Authority should be fined for not having more emergency exits at its stations. Those stations are death traps. Same with the NYC subway.

I hear that Obama is lashing out at Wright. It's about time. Even if I don't disagree with everything that Wright said and agree that there might be traditions in the black church that are somewhat alien, Obama is running a political race and if he's in it to win it, then he'll have to dirty his hands sort of like our Hil-Billly girl.

I wonder if McCain will play fair, or if it will be a nasty campaign.

I wish Wright would STFU. I am not wanting to vote for McCain, but everytime I hear him on the tube shouting about this and that, I go hear we go again. Wright hasn't colored my view on Odumbo, but why does he keep bring up sleeping issues.

As far as I am concerned, one could just plant trees or some flowers and that would be a fine memorial.

I did not say there was anything wrong, I simply asked how many memorials does one need. I think one is sufficient. Otherwise, why not have a 9/11 memorial in every town. And why does it need to be in Liberty State Park? And why does it need to be so obtrusive?

It's sad that so many people died, but how many friggin' 9/11 memorials does one need. And does it really need to block the view of Manhattan.

No body will be able to deliver on universal healthcare, especially not Mrs. Clinton. There are too many vested interests and she would have to contend with Republicans and wary Democrats too.

I think if the US ever gets universal healthcaer that it would more likely come from the Republicans (a la Massachuseets)

I wish Obama could say no more funding but the reality is that there are troops there.. I don't think anyone wants a haphazard withdrawal.

No big woop for me on Michelle Obama.

Now I'm LOL that Robert Johnson - the guy who founded BET is echoing Ferraro and saying that the only reason Obama is where he is is because he is black. It's sad but not surpriisng and definitely not true IMO. I guess the establishment doesn't want him to win but tis will only help.

I think Obama is ahead because he is the independent that most seriously wants to get the US out of Iraq. Plus he is likeable and besides he can learn everything else just like Clinton and McCain will be able to do during the Transition period.

People get real and stop focusing on stupid stuff. She wrote this paper while she was in college. People's views obviously change over a 40 year period.

And perhaps people did/do look at her as the "black" student, so what? I bet you if she was Chinese, she would be the Chinese student, or Jewish student (if there were very few at Princeton), or the Muslim Student. If she were white at a black college, she would have been the white student...so and so forth.

Why are people not focusing on issues?

I agree the City should take its time - the offer smells of desperation. I'm sure Mr. Hyman realizes that many prior appraisals overvalued properties. Even if he could get financing to build homes on the embankment or on newark avenue, who would live in them?

I think people who want to succeed in politics by appealing to a broad audience should distance themselves from people like Farrakan or David Duke, etc.....

At least with McCain you know what you're getting, with Hillary she changes her stance depending upon how she thinks it will affect her in the polls. The more I read about her, the less I like her as a potential president. If America wants change, then I think Obama is the man to deliver it. If America wants to stay the course, then choose McCain.

I was thinking of sitting this one out or voting for Mccain or Nader but I'm hoping that Obama can put this behind him. I just read that Wright is a veteran of the Marines - I'm like if you're willing to serve in the military then I can be too mad about one's critcizing the US government. I'll be honest and admit that I would never serve in the military.

"Billy Graham: Anti-semite?

One of the nation's most famous and beloved evangelists, Billy Graham, has what appears to be an antisemitic past. His most recent and ostensibly final Crusade was praised and hyped in the press, but nowhere did you read criticisms of what Graham said in the past - much less his lame excuses today.

Back in 1994 H. R. Haldeman published his White House diaries in which he revealed a conversation between the Rev. Billy Graham and President Nixon that took place in 1972 about how to deal with the problem of the ?satanic Jews? whom Graham felt maintained a ?total Jewish domination of the media.? This allegation was completely at odds with the public image America had of Billy Graham and, as would be expected, Graham quickly denounced and denied the statements as outright lies saying, "Those are not my words. I have never talked publicly or privately about the Jewish people, including conversations with President Nixon, except in the most positive terms."

Flash forward to March 1st of this year and the most recently released Nixon tapes which covered the first six months of 1972. Who?s voice can be heard ranting about the Jewish control of the media? Why, the Rev. Billy Graham?s! Now 83 years old and in failing health, Graham probably didn?t expect to live long enough to have to face up to his previous antisemitic comments. Naturally this man of God, who has come as close as any to being the spiritual leader of America, immediately admitted his failings and his narrow-mindedness and asked for forgiveness for the trust he violated both in the Jewish community and the public at large, right?"

I am also concerned about Mrs. Clinton's hypocrsy. On the one hand,s he's praising free trade but then blasting the Pentagon for choosing Airbus/Northrop Grumman over Boeing for tanker deal.

I don't think he is radical or a marxist. I'm focusing on the fact that I want our troops out of Iraq and I believe that he is the best candidate to get this done. I also think that more social justice would be a good idea.
