Why not install more CCTV to catch the culprits and issue them tickets.

excellent. they should do this. Once I was crossing a street near Hamilton Park and a driver almost ran me over at crossing despite a Stop sign. It turns out that there was a cop behind the driver's rude azz....that stupid driver was pulled over and I presume given a ticket.

What's the deal with Obama and Iraq. Is he doing a fliup flop or what? What does he mean by refining his exit strategy? I can undersand delaying withdrawal by a few months or even a year, but he should be setting concrete deadlines and telling the Iraq government to get with the progra and if the Iraqi government can't do it, let Iran and Saudi Arabia do it.

Yes, Germany does have a higher unemployment rate but you don't have the obscene poverty that you have in the US.

Also, an I point out that the employment rate in the US is not so fantastic relative to other rich countries.

Denmark : 4.8%
Netherlands : 4.7%
Sweden : 7.8%
UK : 4.7%
Austria : 5.2%
Finland : 8.4%
Ireland : 4.3%
Portugal : 7.6%
Germany : 9.5%
Spain : 9.2%
France : 9.7%
Belgium : 8.4%
Greece : 9.8%
Italy : 7.7%
Hungary : 7.2%
Poland : 17.7%
-----------------------
Turkey : 10.3%
USA : 5.1% (in 2004)
Japan : 4.4% (in 2004)
Sources : Eurostat

Net-net, it does not seem that high tax rates and social benefits is a necessarily bad

McCain also said that the oil companies might need to give something back. Is that socialist-leaning too?

Last time I checked, the people in several "socialist market" countries were happy and not complaining about widespread access to healthcare and low unemployment levels

OL.. McCain is copying Obama < -----79870 > 06/11 06:21:21

Now Mccain is saying that oil companies should pay some kind of windfall profits tax. Can Obama sue for plagiarism.

If Obama is so dumb, why do Republican leaders seem to like his proposed approach, ie Cheney saying a gas tax holiday is a foolish idea!

Re: Barack Obama for President

Europe has several different health care schemes...go to France, and you will see that it works and it is not exorbitant. Now, go to some town in Mississippi or Arkansas and tell me that you will get the same kind of service/treatment you get in the Northeast. I doubt it.

At the end of the day, all healthcare is rationed somewhat and the rich obviously get better...but in Europe, at least the poor get something unlike many homeless in the US.

The fact that there are 50 million people without insurance is a f_cking disgrace, and what's funny is that most Americans are too stupid to realize they are being screwed including some of those 50 million without insurance. They are more concerned with whether Bill Gates has to pay a $1 billion more in taxes than with their neighbors health and well being.

Who says socilaism doesn't work. It is subjective and perhaps it wouldn't work in America but try telling that to the Europeans, especially the Scandanavians.

It seems to me that Team USA could use a lot more socialism, unless it wants to end up more like Team China. It's amazing that almost 50 million Americans don't have insurance.

perhaps if our elected officials had approved the light rail extension, it would go to edgewater. byw, what's so great about edgewater - whole foods? take the PATH - Manhattan is more interesting.

Oh boy, I guess the homeowners are crying about rising property values.

Michican and Florida votes will count for half. This is a travesty because they should not count. What is the point of having rules if they are not going to be enforced.

Am I confused, but did I or Obama or anyone say that Obama was going to solve the mid-east problem? The only people who can solve that are the countries in the mid-east, but the US could be a good facilitator, especially if it were more even-handed.

Hoboken is having an international film festival from 5/30 - earl June. I think this is a great idea, unfortunately there are no international films just domestic films.

When is Loew's Jersey going to get its act together.

I wonder if Hezbollah has endorsed anyone? Like Mr. McCain. How about Al-Q because we know that a Republican fearmonger will do wonders for Al-Q's recruiting efforts.

All joking aside. Hamas does have legitimate complaints against Israel, although I do not agree with the tactics how many other options does Hamas and Hezbollah have. It's sort of like South Africa under apartheid. If there wasn't international pressure, I think the blacks would have been well within their rights to fight back to get justice. Fortunately, they did not have to. Maybe Mr. Obama might be able to take a more balanced approach. And for those who might dare call me an anti-Semite, I know of many Jews who agree that Israel's treatment of Palestinians and apprach to settling the mess is not above reproach.

I think this helps but doesn't get at the fundamental problem of kids not wanting to learn. It's not a question of being rich or poor, but a question of desire.

Call me radical but I think the state should pay kids to go to school and get good grades, and give free college scholarships from those deserving students from poor nabs.
