This guy is worth $200k+/yr? Lets start but cutting the salaries of the superintendents.

We pay this guy $200K a year to be not sure and have a "wait-and-see approach"...way to serve the public buddy.

Seriously, stand on Chris Col. and look at the short side of the buildings, line up with one of the bulding edges and tell me these balconies are not sagging down.

With respect to search terms to use I think the scientists and doctors call what you are looking for a "cancer cluster". I hope you find very little evidence of this in JC. There were some doozies of ones which played thier part in spurring the Clean Water Drinking Act decades ago. Hopefully since that time these cancer clusters have dissapated somewhat...

Your killing me here with these assumptions stating them as if they are truths (quoted above). Could they be true, I dont know, neither do you. So by your theory here, how about Duncan projects!! Who is behind that one? I will give you an assumption if you like...the golf driving range across the way demanded those projects be torn down. Or maybe it was the people who play handball in the park across the way the buildings windows reflect the afternoon sun in their eyes! Just had to be them, right?

Look we agree, being active is important, having an involved community is very important, squeaky wheels work some time. So, do you know of community meetings for the McGinley Square area? Can you share information if you have it?

We should aslo expand your question, where are the affordables for 77 Hudson, Trump, Liberty, etc...they are all offsite, right?

And if you have an axe to grind, just grind it, don?t try to cover it with other issues.

Oh, all of a sudden i am "not too shy to talk" what is the next level?

You dont need to tell me that i dont need to report to you, i know that. My only concern was that you actually believed all the broad assumptions and stereotypes you were putting forward. If you are this active I would rather you be aware of other possibilities than what you put forth here, the world isnt black and white its grey.

Just to try to nip another...nobody knows if there is a corrilation between wealth and ability to attend a community meeting.

Expanded PATH service would be great, i know they are looking at trains with more cars along the NWK-WTC line, but new routes are needed.

Using the 6th street embankment and Bergan arches is an easy no-brainer for the light rail, Erie RR cut that right of way years ago and it is just sitting there.

In an ideal world the PATH would tunnel North and South of JSQ making a new line under the palisade ridge...this will never happen though, and if so it will take 6583937945.837years judging by the 2nd ave subway.

Extending the light rail across the bayonne bridge into Staten island would be interesting also, i heard they were considering this at one point.

If so can anyone tell us if there are any community meetings at the Beacon or if you all attend the local one in that area? I am not assuming just trying to get facts to help me in NOT assuming.

Thank you

How many people are active? My hunch at least the average amount if not more when compared to the city at large, a tiny percent of people anywhere are active?you know that, but I am not the ambassador for anyone so don?t ask me about others. I can only answer for myself w.r.t. involvement. I do all the ?normal? things, Pay taxes?vote?shop locally?ect. Beyond that I have contacted our local politicians on various occasions directly, in person too. I support and get involved local organizations that interest me?related to open spaces for people in JC, historical JC organizations/preservation, various environmental/recreational organizations, and the like. Also regional groups. I have tried to attend a community meeting before, work conflicts prevented me, actually as I sit here in the office now there is a council meeting going on I think. I would like to do more but when the balance of work and my life come in?it all comes down to time.

However if you prefer to think of me as among people who don?t care about the area they live in and are orchestrating what is happening all over this city, the stock market crash(es), various earthquakes on the other side of the earth, and wars around the world?whatever floats your boat.

You want a good book that talks about politics and people influencing major things in JC pickup ?the last 3 miles??

You have some good points for discussion. Unfortunately you cant seem to stop yourself from assuming inaccurately that you know what i think/care about. You also keep making general blanket statements about people...second time in this thread alone. You?ve drained any interest I have in posting any further response to this...

Why didn't the developer of the beacon create some affordable condos for low income since he is receiving tax abatements?

Only those on the JCHA can talk to the decisions made. A couple of facts that I suspect are driving this:
-The federal plan Hope VI dictates this is what should be happening to this type of housing.
--Per Hope VI, this is happening across the country to similar high rises.
--Per Hope VI this has been happening to similar high rises IN JERSEY CITY (e.g. Duncan Ave).

I thought the tax abatement for the Beacon was a win for JC, sitting abandoned as it was the land would probably never be developed if subject to full tax rates. JC went from $0 in tax revenue a year for this land to?some large amount of money per year. How do you see the tax abatement tied to HUD?

You know people assuming things here is going both ways... I live in the Beacon and am concerned about those in MG. I have personal friends I have met at work who live there and Booker T. Its a tuff situation with no clear good answers. No silver spoon here either, just lots of hard work!

What you have to understand is sometimes "snitching" on the person that robbed, shot or assualted you leads to more violence against you. For example lets say he told the police he knew who the man that shot him was and where he lived. Lets pretend he is actually arrested, he would probably make bail and want revenge. On top of that the man who shot him would put the word on the street that the victim is a "snitch". This makes you a target for assualts and robberies from other people that might not even know the victim or suspect but will victimize you because you are a known "snitch". Then you have to worry about the suspects friends that dont want to see him go to prison by a "snitch" that might be willing to seriously injure or kill to silence you. Then once the suspect recieves the witness statements from his lawyer now he will have a copy of what he said, his full name and address (assuming he didnt know). So sometimes doing the right thing has more negetives then positives. It is easy to see why someone wouldnt risk there safety of life to possibly be able to put someone in prison for a couple years.

What you say makes sense how someone could be scared to do the right thing...as unfortunate as it is, thanks for the perspective.
It is a shame that a part of society with values like this has been created. What is very sad is that behavior like not snitching is promoted by "idols" (rappers) who are actually looked up to. In my opinion the outcome is clear, if people follow this way of not snitching in these places...this part of society will be forever trapped in a negative feedback loop forever spiraling down...

From a news article in another post today, perfect example of how the community is failing itself:

"Police officers on patrol near the Fulton Avenue playground heard two shots at 10:39 p.m. and saw muzzle flashes coming from the park's entrance, reports said.

They found a 25-year-old man on the ground on the northwest corner of Fulton Avenue and King Drive, bleeding from the left side of his torso, police said.

The man was uncooperative and police were unable to learn from a crowd that had gathered direction the shooter had fled or a description, reports said."

uncooperative....

SHILL !

Pffft...A mature response when someone has a different point of view than you...I am the furthest thing away from JCPD buddy, or anything JC besides a resident.

I am sick and tired of people not having any personal accountability, its always someone elses fault. There is crime here...its not the people committing the crimes...doesnt have anything to do with the community....blame the police!

I agree with your post above, the parents should be accountable for starters. Look at the source of the problem, not the end of pipe solution, it is too late by then.

Pretty close, sans the radioactive part:
http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?BR ... id=15567328&PAG=461&rfi=9

And here are the areas with fill:
http://www.state.nj.us/dep/njgs/geodata/histfillpdf/jersey.pdf

I thinkg the good news for at least some in fill areas is that I am pretty sure they started to fill in areas of the bay(s) in the 18th or early 19th centuries, long before they produced these chemicals.

I am pretty sure that in the past they used this stuff as fill. So pretty much any area by the bay or rivers that is reclaimed land has a good chance for this.
