I'd define economic violence as a disregard for others in the name of profit for oneself.

A for instance:

Realtors constantly knocking on people's homes pestering them to sell which could lead to the ousting of long term tenants.

Can the avatar size limits be increased?

There are photos of Jersey City I'd like to use that won't fit the avatar parameters.

Most of the injuries are from those in the first car.

Never, ever ride in the first or last car.

Wait for the next train.

Okay,

This is a biggie.

How do we stand on gentrification and development in Jersey City?

Are the long established residents being bum-rushed by the changes that they are so unprepared for and will the city lose its identity with the changes?

I appreciate your reply Mao.

Travel on in your world and enjoy it.

Oh, to those who barged in on our conversation, please excuse me for ignoring you, but as a few of you pointed out, perhaps you should have just moved on from the posting if you didn't agree with the content.

Rich.

Small, ignorant, etc. etc....

It's interesting to note how many posters barged into a polite discussion that was supposed to be between Mao and myself--many whom were not even privy to Mao's original posting. Now I have a clearer understanding of what the designation "home away from home" truly indicates.
It was just an observation on my part.

Agreed.

Discussion is one thing, proselytizing is quite another.

And if you feel the need to be enlightened on a topic try Google.

I'm all for the idea.

It'll bring jobs of all sorts into the area -- nothing wrong with that.

As far as an environmental impact, community groups have to keep up pressure to ensure that safeguards come along with the project.

I predict that it'll pass.

Mao,

I just thought it was a bit much for a secular discussion board. I asked you -- no one else-- to examine your posting.

A detailed history of the exhumation of the cross?

As to music, I really don't think that Catholic music is "recognized by all as without parallel".
That also, is a bit much.

Small, ignorant and intolerant?--yes, I recognize those qualities extant herein.

Free thinkers??--covers a lot of territory.

Interesting the turn that my query about St. Bridget's church took.

Now--a further question:

Are there any graduates from the class of 1964 at St Bridget's on this site?

Loew's,

Can we try to get the 1935 version of MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT DREAM
on the screen?

That'd be so great!!

Re: JC schools worse than Newark?

Home away from home

I taught HS in a small town for about ten years.

Each year I would poll the students as to how many homes had either books, magazines or newspapers in their homes.

The response was always a tiny fraction of the class having anything of literary value in their homes. More frightening than that--the majority of teachers rarely were seen with a book during free time or a prep period. Most were on a literary level with the students.

Yet each student within the last few years had at least one mobile device that was more important to them than anything we were learning in the classroom.

The desire or need for learning has gone out of the window today in a large sense, so I can only imagine the learning environment in the larger cities.

I think the student population (and the state) would be much better served with an across the board vocational system in each and every high school.

Kids need that option. Not all students are interested in book learning.

Here's a tough one--anyone recall a little variety shop called Georgie's on Wayne Street?

It was up from the turnpike heading towards the water. He always had a lot of things in his window that would catch a kid's eye.

I can remember as a kid just looking and looking in the big window at Rogut's--all of those wonderful toys there.

And all of the gold that was always in the window in the pawn shop.
