Corrupt (IMO) Jersey City officials should not be allowed to give abatements on funds due the County or Board of Education. Let's see if Christie attacks this? Let's see wno's more corrupt!

The next time the cashier slaps you in the face, politely thank the cashier and tell him/her that you needed a reality check!

If Shop Rite is SO bad and the checkout people are so bad, go to Pathmark or Whole Foods and stop complaining

I stopped going to LSP becasue the last time I went there were no trees for shade. I'd rather go to a park with shade trees but now I will explore LSP again

Well, I think the wages at Shop Rite don't exactly attract those with superior customer service skills. I don't think Shop Rite wants to pay for that. They do at Trader Joe's

Why don't they plant some trees in on a man-made hill or something to honor the 9-11 victims

If the apartment is not rent controlled, then the landlord is free to charge what he/she wants as long as the rent is not unconscionable. If others are paying more for the same type of apt, then the landlord is just bringing you up to the market.

$1500 does sound cheap to me for a pad on the waterfront.

I like Western Beef a lot. The supermarket traditionally served low income neighborhoods, near the projects, but the chain seems to have gone slightly upmarket as some of the low income areas have gentrified. I think Western Beef is definitely an improvement over C-Town, but obviously no comparison to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods...unlesss...unlesss...unlesss. should I say it...unless..
Western Beef is trying to introduce a new upmarket format

Perhaps someone will sue the city to remove the blighted designation. Corruption and favoritism are so rampant in Jersey City. I'd gladly donate to a fund that is dedicated to fighting corruption in the People's Republic of Jersey City.

Yes, perhaps LeFrak is subsidized but the people who live in Newport don't go around shooting people either...although you might be more likely to find white collar criminals. I can live with white collar crimes; I don't fear for my my or my family's safety.

It's complicated! And there are no simple answers.

1. Sometimes it cheaper to build new rather than trying to renovate these project buildings.

2. The family and income structure of those living in MG is vastly different.

3. I think socety needs to find a way to change the goal and aspirations [will be hard] of those living in MG. if you expect subsidized housing, then society should have simple expectations...

I could go on..but who am I kidding. Nothing progressive ever gets done in the US. The wingnuts will cry that its too expensive, the inhabitats and libs will say its racist

I think they should try to get more public employees (like firemen and police officers, teachers) to move there and improve them. They should also toughen the requirements for living there and access, such as making sure their children attend school and get minimum grades, no drugs, no violence, etc.

Of course, expenses need to be cut but I think furloughs is a better solution than en masse firings which would stunt any economic recovery if companies/governments/non profits just keep cutting.

Maybe the federal gov't should allow Bush' tax cuts to expire and redistribute a hefty portion back to cities. I don't think anyone wants the US to go through the 15 year deflationary experience that Japan went through

I'm fed up with the expensive cable bill and I am thinking of getting satellite TV. I realize its not perfect especially in bad weather but I'm sick of paying a small fortune for cable.

Interesting article. It didn't mention Paris which has done FAR more with its abandoned elevated tracks and rail stations than NY. Also, Chicago might not have as many private philanthropists, but it has a lot of civic pride

Exactly what does this cap mean. Corzine put a 4% cap in place but property taxes still rose more than that - I think. Does this mean that one would see a 2% rise in property taxes regardless of the property valuations?
