Went there on the 29 April and noticed the roundup also, but I typically pay cash at restaurants, so..I did not care for the pennies back, they can keep it. But, it would be nice to round down LOL. Anyway, on a scale of 1-5 . . 5 being the best..I give the food at 3.75, the beer selection and price a 4.35 and the service and atmosphere a 4.6.

Just reviewed their menu..looks like some choices, however..however, how dare they charge more than 5 dollars for a Cuban Sandwich. Get mine (and it's awesome) at El Fenix Bakery in Union City.

They should stick around for dinner time.

So, how bad is the murder rate in Jersey City. 9 murders thus far. However, 5 of them committed or co-committed by the same piece of garbage. How many more would have this scum killed.

Never seen any fights at The Merchant, but it can happen anywhere. Though, one fat drunk older bearded fella almost was handed a whack in the face the other night, but he eventually moved on to another group to bother. He was trashed. That's the one thing, barkeepers need to remove or stop serving drunk folks. Otherwise, usually a patron is the one who takes the beating.

use the GPS only if you are going out of the tri-state area, keep it at home. I have a NYC and NJ map in the car, a really nice one, pages, booklet style...cost less than 10 bucks, it's laying right there on the seat..and guess what, no broken windows. and another tip, don't even keep a dime visible. any loose change, hey some idiot might just smash your window for it. no valuables, nothing. no sunglasses, nothing.

You live in this city, buy a map and save your money and your car from being smashed up.

I went in there on Friday afternoon. New manager, same butcher, getting new chef. Sampled one of the polskas and was very tasty. They will be serving coffee soon too. I might even go tonight and pick up some morski cheese!

Has anyone ever seen 479 and 481 Manilla Street. Those are true slobs. 479 throws food and bottle caps out the window and 481 continually uses the 2 city cans on their corner as their personal garbage cans.

WHO CAN STOP THIS ??????????

"Hi, my name is Teddy. I?m from the Bergen-Lafayette coalition to feed the homeless. We are riding the trains tonight until midnight to try and collect money to help feed the homeless. Right now the shelter is very low on food to feed the homeless. We are in need of soup, milk, bread, and juice to help feed the homeless women and children. Anything you can give would help, god bless."

After the original owner left (and opened Skinner's Loft), the new owner stripped the place of its charm, put up those awful flat screen tv's that were wallpapered across the place behind the bar. It deserved to fail for lack of creativity.

Re: Wave of gentrification that leapfrogged the Hudson has reached new heights - Jersey City Heights
Home away from home
Home away from home

I recently looked at a home for sale on Ogden, checked the records, brought for 540K in 2006 YIPS..now for sale close to 400K. So, I figure it is worth 330 to 350K maximum, didn't like the realtor bc of the pressure he put on. But here are facts about Ogden. It is probably one of the nicer streets in the Heights. It is close to the renovated Supremo Market which I have close sources telling me it is really good now. The Lightrail is right down the hill and the buses run along Palisade Avenue all the time for commuters. If you want an apartment in the Heights, you should look for 300 to 400 square foot. Downtown JC will run ya 450 to 500, and closer to 550 to 600 for the more new towers that have been built recently. That is the market rate, don't settle for being ripped off or rushed into a decision by a realtor. Now, the Heights has a long way to go still, as most of what is west of Palisade Avenue is trash, though I enjoy a stroll down Central Avenue once in a while.

So Mr. Banker Assistant brought 140 for 600 sq feet. So he paid 233 per square feet. Very well done, but again, did it need work, what type of building condition etc....but love that he remembers what Brooklyn was like 20 years ago LOL.
