Amen, brother!

From your mouth to God's..er, Spectra's ears!

Gives me an idea. A kindly rewrite of the songs Take Me to The River [Talking heads] (or Water [Nina Simone]) as an anthem of opposition would be great. A bit corny, but still great.

Tris McCall are you listening?!

Just curious, but has anyone asked the Journal editor for an explanation? Do other news agencies do this as a rule?

For the record, if you are the victim of a crime and you have to go look at mugshots, they are organized by race and age. It's very relevant. As a victim, would anyone here think to not mention the race of the perp to the police?

The rumor is a Vietnamese soup and sandwich joint. Good pho and bahn mi with a casual neighborhood vibe sounds perfect for that little spot. I'll be very happy if this turns out to be the case.

It probably is the "bad part of town" thing and that not many of us downtown really identify with that neighborhood. Some folks likely think that walking around that hood at 2am is looking for trouble. That certainly doesn't make it right.

It's really tragic and I'm sorry for your loss.

Okay, let's understand something here.

Ingrid Newkirk (PeTA founder) believes we should all be vegans. They kill 1000s of animals a year because they believe they're beyond saving. They do almost nothing for shelters. They to live to save every animal from pain from humans. They are uncompromising ideologues.

Nathan Winograd (vegan, and former prosecutor) thinks that Ingrid is a punk. In his world view, PeTA is just a well funded killing machine. Nathan's books are the driving force behind Pets Alive and all the asshats you've seen here lately. They live to force the idea that every municipal shelter can be No Kill. Many members also have a religious bent. They are uncompromising ideologues.

There's a war going on here, but the real stakeholders have never been here. Support your local shelter. Support your neighbors who volunteer their time and money. Everything else is up for grabs it seems.

http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... m_blaze_engulfs_hous.html

Jersey City firefighters are battling a three-alarm blaze at 83 Bleecker St. between Pierce Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard, fire officials said.

The flames can be seen shooting from the wood-frame building and appears to be centered in the rear of the private house, according to witnesses.

No serious injuries have been reported at this time.

The fire appeared to have started in the basement. A couple firefighters are being treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

Matchjames, I see what you are saying and I agree that the C-Town location is a weak choice. However, NJ in general, and the Hoboken/Downtown area is what we can correlate them looking for. Density, education, income and transportation are assets which we already have and are steadily improving.

I love all these anecdotal opinions that people just KNOW and yet they can't figure out word wrap or the quote function.

M3 Maps has does a very good 2 part study of Trader Joes locations based in the Philly area.

Basic finds are:

Ingredient 1: Highway Accessibility in or near Urban Areas
Ingredient 2: Zip Code Populations > 6000 people
Ingredient 3: Population Density > 700 people / square mile
Ingredient 4: Median Income Zones between $30K and $150K
Ingredient 5: Top 40% of Income Quintiles

Regardless of the C-Town location, I'd say Downtown scores exceedingly well on all those criteria.

Hero69 has it right. The problem is the word "unconscionable". It may depend on the judge, but you're unlikely to get that judgment in court if your dispute the income, especially with recent changes in property taxes.

Unless your building has 5 or more units and is considered rent controlled, you'll have to live with it or find something else.

But a dangerous dog under your care mauled a person. I see a lot of room in between being a dog who mauls their vet and a mentally healthy, adoptable animal. Enjoy your math, but there's a qualitative issue that you fail to address. I am of the opinion that not every dog is savable and I suspect the number of hazardous pit bulls ending up at an inner city shelter is higher than the .1% you throw out there.

Perhaps you should try a little honey because the no-kill side of this argument has been coming off as a group of unreasonable fascists. Stop acting like anybody takes lightly the idea of putting down dogs.

Sounds like you have terrible judgment in evaluating a dog's temperament. Reckless devotion to the no-kill ideology is helping no one.

Since you're buying the business, I guess it's just going to stay a C-Town franchise. More inedible meat and moldy frozen foods.

In a perfect world, sure. But in this world, they have no money for the most basic things (food, litter, etc) at times. Just consider it a donation for the service they provide. A very valuable service that lots of great and dedicated people volunteer a lot of time and energy to.

Even after shelling out $1000, your first visit to a vet with your mall puppy will cost more.

As long as teacher man waits his turn and doesn't monopolize the court I don't really see the problem with it.

The volleyball is ruing the lawn though. I seem to recall that one of the tennis courts was configured for volleyball before the park opened. Was the net just tied to the fences?

That's the only corner in the neighborhood that's been an issue and it's really not that bad. Like others have said, this summer seems to have been fine so perhaps the vibe has changed. Best to check it out on a fri/sat night and see. Living near any bar going to give you some noise issues.

As for talking to the cops... Good luck with that.

It certainly has been a problem in the past. Haven't heard anything bad in awhile though. I hear there's a new owner so I'd also like to hear if the crowd has changed.
