There are no signs on the walkway that pets are not allowed. Feel free to use them. I wouldn't try to respond to people yelling at me. Most of them are lunatics and you can't reason with crazy people.

I plan to call/email everyday until the signs are corrected. Anyone going to the next HPA meeting, July 7th?

If the signs are not addressed promptly, I give it five days before they are altered again to "PET ZONE". hehehe!

Or maybe they disappear altogether!!!

I'm telling you people all of a sudden people have become so uptight. I live right across the park and I'll be damned if I let these haters stop me from using the park. I expect most of the dog haters will leave in about 5 years when they need to sign up their kids for 1st grade.

I wish the woman who use to talk/scream to herself came back and scared people away!!! If it were only that simple...

Let's grab your pitch forks and torches folks and smoke the guy with the black scotties out. Or better yet, start a task force and go undercover as dog owner. hehehe

Dogs are not people. No SH*T... Really, I guess I must have missed that in science class in like the third grade.

Most of the dog owners aren't opposed to keeping our "property" as you say on leashes and we wanted the park to be renovated (it helps to maintain the appreciation of our properties, just like you).

The problem is that some people believe that keeping dogs at a distance will keep their children free from diseases. You live in an urban area and things are by far not as sterile as the suburbs. Did you read about the toxin chromium in jersey city? Sleep well...

Clearly, I'm not such a great neighbor. I should have asked more about their lives. Sad to hear that two of them passed away. I could always count on them to be around and they were very pleasant to have a conversation. They played for hours! The neighborhood has changed even though I still considered by myself a newbie after almost 8 years.

Hahaha.... I'm clearly from the wrong side of the tracks so I support the underDOG....

I'm missing the days when I would greet the homeless guys playing chess next to the temporary dog run. They were much nicer than some folks on this thread. Those were the days...

You might want to tell parents to not allow their kids to enter the dog run without any parent supervision. I waited until another parent left the small dog run with their 3-4 year old in pj's about an hour ago.

No one is against dogs being on leashes. But when they are off in the dog run, it doesn't help to have babies and children in the dog run. That is STUPID period!

The dog owner with the two black scottish terriers goes to the park every morning and evening so you can catch him and give him your two cents.

I felt today that the park no longer welcomes dog owners with open arms. There is a lot of hostility toward dog owners and dog owners are hostile right back. The signs are everywhere. I don't agree with what he did, but I understand him.

I'm counting down the days to the first fist fight to erupt. Strangers yelling from their cars and "informing" us where we can and can not go with our dogs is ridiculous. I wonder how a parent would feel if I gave them parenting tips or told them to keep their kids 5 feet away from me.

A woman in a white minivan stopped in the middle of the street as she was making a left turn onto West Hamilton from Pavonia. She rolled down her window and screamed at a guy walking his dog on leash. His dog was taking a leak.

She ended up calling the guy a "PIG" for allowing his dog to pee. I couldn't tell if she had kids in the back seat. I was completely floored that a parent would have this much anger toward a person. Anger management, people!

Let's get all of the squirrels, birds and any furry friends in the park some diapers!

$20k to paint walls! I live in 86 unit building and our lobby renovation ended up north of $50k (paint and new carpets). Our board dropped our super a few years back and retained a "super services" company. The so-called savings that they sold us on never happened. Our budget has grown by 48%, no audits on the books - only "reviews". We spent $70k between super and Repairs & Maintenance ten years ago, now we are at $127k.

We spend ~$16k for our management company. I'm amazed how condo boards, supers and management companies work. It is such a joke!

Dog owners who do not pick after their dogs give the rest of us who do such a bad rap. I hate it too. It takes a few seconds to pick up after them and there are sufficient garabage containers around downtown to dispose them. You don't need fancy plastic bags (supermarket bags will do).

Leaving dog fecus around is also bad for other dogs. Don't folks understand that their dog can get someone else's dog illness thru fecus laying around. Vet's bills are so expensive that a few seconds doesn't hurt anyone.

LSP should have a dog run and not these 10 by 10 dog runs. HP is opening soon and I'll bet that dog owners will let their dogs off leash. Kids will end up in the dog run with no parent supervision. But as soon as a dog bites a kid, all hell will break loose.

I don't see how things will change. Jones Park and embankment are used by most dog owners as dog runs. Some folks walk their dogs with no leashes in the neighborhood. My recollection (since it has been sooooooo long since the HP has been opened) is that off leash was early mornings and late in the evening when no one was around to complain. Personally, I walk my dog with a leash and pick up after her (no poops lying around from my four legged friend). I have crossed the "dark side" on occasion and let her off leash to run and play with her friends. No one ever bothered us and we didn't bother anyone.

If anyone wants to use a real dog run, http://www.unioncountynj.org/parks/facilitiesdogpark.html.

3 acres versus the 10 by 10 dog run - what a joke.

As a precaution, always make sure that you never ever pay anything upfront in full. I always make sure to set up contracts in 4 payments (depending on the type of job). At each step of the process I pay for the contractor services (initial deposit and payments at each phase). The contractor never gets a dime unless they pass inspection (rough and final). A friend of a friend shelled out $100k for an addition and the contractor left the job before it was complete.

Plus check if the contractor has proper docs to be messing with your plumbling/electrical/etc... Also, get at least three quotes. It helps to weed out contractors who want to charge double when everyone else is at half that.

If your hot water heater bursts, then you are a bit vulnerable unless you have a good plumber already. Good luck!

If you ever let your dog run and poop, bring a flashlight. I've searched with a flashlight when we had Hamilton Park open. I hated stepping on someone else dog's poop as I was looking for my dog's poop.

Don't these people know that dog poop spreads canine diseases.

I also confirmed the incident tonight. I made sure to change my dog walk route these past few nights. I don't care if it was a prank or not. Anyone who approaches you wearing a ski mask (white, black, or green for that matter) is a frightening experience.

I'll admit that anyone who makes me feel uncomfortable, I'll cross streets or make a quick turn. I generally avoid group of teens (again any race/creed, etc...). Kids will egg each other on and do things that they would never normally do on their own. Anyone who feels comfortable by me, please clear the sidewalk (my 17 lb dog & I would kindly appreciate it!)

I posted the information to alert anyone who walks their dogs (like me) or walks home from work at night. Take the information or don't take it. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

Incident at Hamilton Park

One of the residents at HP condos (ninth b/w jersey and west hamilton) found a distraught woman in the main entrance. She had been chased by a black man in a ski mask while she was walking her dog around 8:30 pm. The woman described that the guy was changing his voice when he was talking to her by using some sort of speaker device. The resident stayed with woman until her husband picked her up. She said she lived in the area.

As a HP resident, I received the email that alerted us of the incident and wanted to pass it along to others.
