St. John's and Brunswick Towers which does not have an abatement and are paying close to $10,000 for 2 bedroom units. The equity in those condos have now been reduced. When the abatement kicks in, it will pay approximately $1,300. Why would anyone want to buy an older condo, that is blocks away and pay high taxes? This is economic discrimination.

By this logic, there should be no new development, ever. Because newer, shinier, fancier buildings will almost always outcompete the older existing housing.

If the Journal Square area improves significantly, it will have a very positive impact on the property values nearby. Developing the area means rising prices in that area, even if the older properties aren't at the same per-square-foot rates as the brand-new ones.

Two options are:

Anyone know of any others?

07310 and jcguy05, think again. The view and orientation fo the buildings looks spot-on to me.

This view is clearly a rendering, and they may have take some liberties, but I'd say it's probably accurate for the top of a 6th-story parking deck at the Beacon. The perspective makes it look like a waterfront promenade (not accidental, I'm sure) so you can't tell that it's actually 2 miles away from the water.

Montgomery Street is a pretty tall hill, so at the top of the hill, you get phenomenal views even from a relatively modest height. The views from the roofdeck of m650 (across the street from the Beacon) are stunning, even though the building's only 5 stories tall.

The real question here is, why is the Jersey Journal making this look like a news article, when it's an unabashed marketing piece?

I laughed out loud the first time I noticed the sign on the construction fencing heralding the "Persistence Construction Company." I guess if you want to make the construction of a 9-hole golf course take the better part of a decade, you've gotta be persistent!

You can try a monitoring service such as Cyber Doorman or Virtual Doorman. I'm not sure what the cost would be for installation, but we've used both companies in my building, and Cyber Doorman was much cheaper than Virtual for monitoring, and we've been happy with the service. PM me if you want to talk further.

I liked the Cebu style ribs at Legal Beans the one time I've had them, they're huge, very flavorful and sweet, although a bit fatty. I haven't tried their Espresso-rubbed spareribs.

I'd definitely be interested.

I am at an intermediate level and I've found that most places typically offer many beginner-level and gentle-yoga classes, but intermediate/advanced and power-yoga classes are harder to find (I'm sure there is far less demand for these) but that's one thing that would interest me greatly.

The best times are weekends (morning and midday/early afternoon) and weekday evenings.

Would folks up here be interested in this sort of thing? What sort of classes/times would interest you?

Just to be clear, this is a DIFFERENT tower from the ones proposed for the vacant lot right at the PATH plaza?

The article talks about how it will be the tallest building in JSQ, and requires a variance to go this high, this sounds like an admission that the other towers probably ain't happening?

Because I work in Union County NJ and wanted to live close to the city in a fun, happening place (read: not the 'burbs) with a short commute to work.

(I just gotta remind people that not EVERYONE in JC commutes to NY. There are actually people who work on our side of the Hudson)

My fault, I overestimated the walk, it's closer to .75 miles: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5342785

Vindication, you must walk really, really slowly. I live at M650, right across the street from the Beacon, and I can be at JSQ in less than 15 minutes. You could even get from the Beacon to Grove PATH in about 20 if you wanted, it's about 1.2 miles.

The neighborhood's not great, but it's improving.

When is the signal system going to be upgraded? Is it currently being done?

For the past few months I have been taking the WTC line, which used to consistently be a breeze (5 minutes), but nowadays, it sometimes crawls. Today, for example, was stop and go, and the ride took 15 minutes! It's about a mile and a half. 15 minutes is a real embarrassment.

"The PATH rail system will receive a nearly $400 million signal-system upgrade, increasing potential rail capacity on the line 20 percent by 2014, officials said today." (Jersey Journal Oct 17, 2007)

"The signal project, eventually projected to cost $580 million and be completed in 2017, is part of a $3.3 billion plan to modernize the entire PATH system over the next 10 years." October 23, 2009, Star Ledger

Clearly the answer is that the signal upgrades will be completed 7-8 years from now. Ask again in a few years and they'll tell you the same thing.

I've been climbing for a few years now. I and another friend of mine in JC usually hit a local rock gym (with a group of 20- and 30- somethings) at least twice a week (Gravity Vault, Brooklyn Boulders, NJ Rock Gym, etc) and often climb and boulder in the Gunks and elsewhere nearby.

I looked for you on Facebook but I'm not sure which one is you, and I don't have a Twitter account. Send me a personal message.

Agree that Kirk Bray's show at 58 was great!

The open studios at 150 Bay were fantastic this year (disappointing that there were no spaces at 140 Bay, other than the Warehouse Cafe).

Did anyone check out Mana Contemporary up near Journal Square?
