i meet with James and i thought we came to an understanding on an aspect of his campaign that was personally bothering me. i was wrong. He continued/ continues to exploit his illness for personal gain. In my humble is he is, by far, the least authentic candidate in Ward E. I find it very important to have a sense of humor about oneself. I don't think you are wired that way. If you were you could of gone farther in politics. Plus the healy thing..hard to get over that.

Dixon Leasing is not a real estate developer but a company who buys real estate, renovates then rents it out. They employ scores of Jersey City Residents. Yes Rebecca did work there. In my dealings with her I found her hard working and affable.
The truth of the matter ismoney is needed to run a campaign and not everyone is from a wealthy family who receives over 85% of their contributions from outside Jersey City. Short term rentals at a reduced rate is common in commercial real estate. As stated before I'm not voting for Rebecca but if she's elected I would be fine with that and so such Ward E.

People who have used his services as a funeral director rave about his compassion. He deals with people when they are most vulnerable and comes out with flying colors.
He was instrumental in the development of The Brunswick Center. Transforming a closed school into the home of 15 small local businesses. I like his personality and his low key approach. He has co-directed the local Italian feast without fanfare...just get the job done.

I think Nic Grillo is best suited to serve the people of Ward E.

It is a common practice in commercial real estate to have greatly reduced rent or no rent until a tenant is up and running.
Be that as it may I don't claim to know state or federal election laws. I personally find the talk of rents, chick pea distracting from the issue at hand..who will best serve the people of Ward E. I will vote for Nic Grillo..others can vote for who they like. Except James Solomon...don't vote for him

No it's not a crime but it is indicative of who he is.
A white male from a wealthy suburb with no business experience, telling people that he knows better. i don't think he does know better. No sense that he will will work well with other council members, I think he will be focused on promoting himself and not serving the needs of Ward E. Don't need a gadfly at this time.

i pointed out that Solomon has just moved here and has no historical context on what the city was like before under previous administrations and he should temper his criticism of Fulop.
It is not that he just moved here but has done little if anything to make Jersey city a better place to live while he's been here. Take down the Trump sign? His name was being licensed and was in the process of being removed when he thrust himself into the story. Low hanging fruit...pick a piece of low hanging fruit...Trump Kushner, real estate developers, abatements...pit rich vs. poor, promise not to take developer $ you can do that when your wealthy. ...no solutions...playing off liberal guilt. facts Never had a real job in his life aside from policy wonk Receives 85% of his money from outside Jersey City Has no understanding on what abatements are.

first time meeting James i pressed him to name an achievement of the Fulop administration...finally he came up with hiring minority police.
Solomon moved here fairly recently ..he has no idea what the city was like before Fulop was elected mayor. Before abatements and new development brought people, parks, and a better quality of life. Not too long ago our food options on Newark ave consisted of a slice or a grilled cheese at Woolworths. Restaurants aren't coming here unless the density supports it. Some of the biggest critics of the mayor on JC LIST and other sites cashed out too early and in some cases missed out on more than $500k. There is resentment and bitterness is often caustic and counter-productive. I'm not trying to be mean just stating facts. James Solomon is selling himself as a progressive reformer but I'm not buying.

Its the damn abatements that are ruining things. Bringing affordable housing, improving parks, building schools. Jersey City is a damn destination now. I preferred it when I could buy beer and lucy's from behind bulletproof glass , restaurant row was a grilled cheese sandwich from Woolworths on Newark Avenue.

I wouldn't refer to Dixon as a real estate developer. A real estate buyer who renovates property is a better description.
Perhaps she left it off her resume because it doesn't fit into the progressive line that she is running on. Be that as it may I worked with Ms. Symes on several occasions and found her to be smart with an attention to detail. It might not be a popular thing to write on this sight but I feel that Dixon is a reason downtown has seen a large increase in values. I don't work on her campaign nor am I voting for her but felt she is much maligned and felt a need to speak out in her defense. Phil Rivo

I was very surprised to read that Solomon worked for Teach for America. An organization whose receives major funding from The Walton Foundation. Working for a Walmart funded organization that's platform includes replacing experienced and union teachers doesn't sound very progressive to me.
I also find his resume very thin when it comes to Jersey City.

I am tired of James Solomon hypocrisy. I questioned a facebook posting of his and it was removed it. So much for openness and censorship.
Never thought I'd be defending Rebecca Symes but Solomon claimed that Symes and her then employer, Dixon Leasing, tried to cut Dixons taxes. This an example of Solomon posting partial truths. The city stopped reassessing properties after they had been renovated. This benefited hundreds of Jersey City homeowners. Regarding Solomons resume ..in Jersey City he has campaigned has been based on picking on easy targets...Trump, Kushner and of course real estate developers and abatements. Lets look at the abatement that The Oakman received...Solomons favorite target. The Oakman was to be built as a rental building..banks and lenders would not lend the developer the money needed to built unless in was a rental. The city/ administration initiated talks and granted an abatement for the building in return the city received over 1 million dollars,14 affordable housing units and over $250k toward the affordable housing trust fund. In addition the city gets approximately four times a year more in revenue by the building having individual condo owners than if it was a rental. Over a million dollars a year more!I find Solomons low hanging fruit campaign to be divisive, If your elected I hope you will work on bringing people together instead of relying on base emotions and playing to peoples fears.
