When does that start? I was planning to use the WTC line this weekend.

If you are applying for a parking permit for the first time, do you need to go to the JCPA in person, or can you just mail in the application form with a copy of your license and registration showing a JC address?

I live at 9th & Manila and we have had Fios available for several months now. I get a brochure in the mail at least once a week asking me to sign up.

Is that an old picture? It looks like everyone is wearing short sleeves and shorts, and it looks like there are leaves on the tree.

Have you ever driven down route 440 in the summer? Do you know what Newark Bay smells like in summer? That is more than enough to turn me away.

If everything is luxurious, then nothing is luxurious is my motto.

Can "luxurious" really be defined? Isn't it just a matter of personal opinion and taste? Someone who normally stays at a Ramada would probably consider the Westin luxurious, for example.

Yes I am aware we live in a city, that's the point.

There's no parking garage connected to the hotel? I swear I saw it when they were building it. They must have somewhere for guests to park. I don't think the majority of hotel guests will be arriving by Path or light rail.

I would tag that area as 'questionable'. I wouldn't walk around there alone at night.

I understand the immediate reaction that "we need more police." While that may be true, I don't see how that would have prevented this crime. How do you stop a random person from walking into any business and shooting someone? Unfortunately you can't. Perhaps a greater police presence would have increased the odds that this guy would be caught, but at that point the damage is already done. The most dangerous people out there are the ones who act out of desperation.

Your only other possible option is Verizon DSL. But that depends on where you live too. If your home is too far from the switching station it won't work. Didn't work for me. Besides, DSL is an inferior "broadband" product.

I was paying $60/month for internet (no TV or phone). I called Comcast and told them Verizon Fios was offering cheaper internet service. Comcast immediately lowered my bill to $42/month.

Can someone tell me that website where you can look up an address and find out who the property owner is (and other tax information)? Someone posted the link on this site about a year ago but I can't find it anymore.

In the old days of analog cable you used to be able to tip these guys and get free HBO and other channels. But now that everything is digital that probably doesn't work anymore.

I just found out that FIOS is finally available to us (we live in Downtown JC on 2nd Street). I was browsing all the choices that I can sign up with Verizon. However, when I calculate the additional costs of the receivers and additonal channels that I want to subscribe to, I found that my cost is not any different than what I currently have with Comcast. I also read that Verizon charges higher taxes and also FCC charges. Could anyone confirm this info?

I, too, was surprised about the prices. When Fios first started being rolled out in NJ about 2 years ago I remember the prices being significantly lower. I recall internet service being around $35/mo, but now I see that it is closer to $47/mo. I guess the cost of rolling out the service is really catching up with Verizon. I'll be sticking with Directv at least for now.

Everyone should have comprehensive coverage on their car insurance to cover the cost of damage due to vandalism or theft. I have a $100 deductible and it only costs about $125/year for that coverage. There is no reason to be paying $2,000 out of pocket.

If you're that worried about paying for mall parking, just drive around some of the side streets like 8th or 9th. You'll probably find a spot and it's not that much farther than walking from Pep Boys. I see people do it all the time. (If it's after 5pm or weekend you don't need a resident permit)

With Fios you have the option not to sign a contract, but if you don't, the prices are higher. For example, internet service is $47.99/mo with contract, or $55.99/mo without contract.

If you sign up for Fios you'll need to sign a contract too. Sure you can get Comcast without a contract, but the service and prices are terrible. So it's a tradeoff. One year is nothing. I'm already almost done with my 2 year Directv contract and can't believe how fast the time went by.

I got a Fios brochure in the mail today. So I went online and checked my address (Manila Ave.) and sure enough, it says Fios is now available! The prices are not as cheap as I thought: $47.99 for internet. I'm not interested in the TV portion since I'm happy keeping Directv for now.
