However, that characterization seems a bit absurd. The Met only gets about 10% of its budget from public funds (City of New York). Most of its funds are from private donations and its endowment.

And it is built on public land in Central Park given to it by the City 1871. What's the value of that land? Surely it covers public access to the collections within.

Sure does. It's those 1%ers who are on the board. They take public money and then charge citizens to pay to see the art they bought with that public money. It's a great scam.

Michael Gross wrote a great book about the scamps and scaliwags that founded the Met: Rogues? Gallery: The Secret History of the Moguls and the Money That Made the Metropolitan Museum. I've reviewed the book here, Sharks in Formaldehyde: New York?s Met and the People Who Made It.

Ah, if we're using the "1 person rule" then I have a laundry list of things to outlaw, let's start with comic book movies and work our way down. I'm certain they must have killed someone, they make me want to kill myself.

Surely there's at least one fatality attributable to the nonsense that appears on JC List. I realize that what is nonsense to one may be the gospel truth to another, so I'm not making any suggestions as to just which pile of nonsense is most fatal. But surely someone somewhere in JC has given up the ghost because they just couldn't stand JC list but had become addicted and couldn't pull away. So they took the only way out, killing themselves or taking it out on someone else in any of a variety of ways.

Suntex is a business; they need to make money. It's fine for them to propose this marina. But it's NOT fine for the Christie administration to green-light it. That's pure spite and vengeance from mean-spirited looters of public coffers who pretend to be a public servants. The park is gorgeous. And they need to allocate the funds needed to open the rest of it to the public. The marina at the north end is all the marina the park needs. Heck, it serviced racing boats several years ago (Sept 2013), and that's fine. IMGP3443 Leave the southern end of the park for we-the-99%-of-the-people.

This has a lot in common with Trump removing protections for western lands. Taking public assets and giving them away to private interests.

YES! And I'm not sure that the birds that nest south of the marina would welcome all the boat traffic.

According to the NYTimes, they're going, or at least being changed:

To busy New Yorkers walking briskly by, the mosaic inside a Times Square subway station might look like a Confederate flag.

It is not, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority assured riders on Friday. But less than a week after violence broke out at a Virginia rally, ostensibly over the planned removal of a statue of a Confederate general, officials are not taking any chances.

So in order to ?avoid absolutely any confusion,? the M.T.A. said in a statement that it would modify the design to make it ?absolutely crystal clear? that it does not depict a symbol of Southern defiance.

I still don't understand what's going on with this $78M. De we have:

1. Doners' giving $78M to a non-profit entity, which then
2. loans it to a for-profit entity (against the value of the land?),
3. which must then repay the loan to the non-profit entity. Hence,
4. The City's 50/50 split of the net doesn't kick in until that loan is repaid.

Is that what's going on?
