Re: Closed ramp at the Newport PATH station?

The thing that gets me is why all of a sudden is this a problem? We live in the Northeast US, it rains...why only now is it so dangerous that they have to close off that ramp? Makes no sense. I've lived in Jersey City for 15 years and only in the last 6(?) months have they started doing this..... why?

Dolomiti, check out NJ Transit bus route 120 with stops on Church Street. Not talking about replacing the PATH with buses.... only adding more buses to help increase our public transportation options to NYC, wouldn't this be a good thing for our city? No bus station necessary.

NJT has no problems putting in bus services that potentially overlap PA services. It's just not always easy to do so.

For example, there is no bus station near the exit to the Holland Tunnel. Buses would need to get to Port Authority somehow -- e.g. either cut through Hoboken, or ride along the West Side Highway. I suspect that after doing that a few times, you'll curse NJT as much as PA. ;)

Jitneys could work. But if they're dropping off 10,000 people on a Saturday, they're going to need somewhere to drop off and pick up riders. They might also not want to offer 24/7 service. PA has nothing to do with that process.

Why do NJ Transit buses *have* to go to Port Authority? I see buses letting out/picking up passengers in Lower Manhattan that are NJ Transit and PA Lines. Why can?t Jersey City get in on this?

Because you have the PATH downtown, and no one, not even NJ transit can compete with the cut throat Port Authority.

For a while there were talks of a ferry from Greenville to Red Hook Brooklyn then Port Authority stop that quick by buying Greenville Yards, It does not like competition, and it will c ck block any sort of alternative transportation options.

You?re probably right. I think it?s insane that downtown Jersey City only has the PATH as a viable option into Manhattan (especially on the weekends). I grew up in Rockland County about 30 miles from NYC and we had more options of getting into the city then I do here?.living less than 5 miles away from lower Manhattan. If anything comes out of this insanity it would be the crazy notion that we need more options period?. PATH or no PATH.

Why can't NJ Transit start some new bus routes downtown? I never understood why downtown Jersey City is so under served with buses into Manhattan.

I used it to go to Newark Airport last Sat and it cost me $28 one way via 1/9 from the Hamilton Park area. It will be more if they take the turnpike due to tolls. Not bad.

Teddy has been doing this for at least 15 years. I remember one time he was going through our train car and a guy on the train yelled out "Don't nobody give him any money, he's a crackhead, DON'T NOBODY GIVE HIM MONEY". I've never seen Teddy run so fast through a PATH car.

Does he still have his clipboard?

Wishful Thinking is not talking about the Lakewood, New Jersey community but the Lakewood, Colorado community.

Lakewood is different from J.C. it is a community run by a Hasidic sect similar to that of Munsey, N.Y, and West Passaic, N.J., and Williamsburg, Brooklyn. There has been lots of controversy and conflict in Lakewood between the sect and the ever-shrinking Black community. I think J.C. will have to contain a more homogenous society to achieve what Lakewood has accomplished.

My question is why retaliate against Fort Lee? There was plenty of other Democratic NJ mayors that Christie sought endorsements from. I can't imagine Fort Lee is the only one that said no.

Hopefully this will alleviate some of the crowding on the Escalators once the passageway is open. Anything they can do to reduce the insane cattle car crowds on any part of the WTC station is ok with me. Now if they can just open some sort of temporary passageway to the Southeast of the site for pedestrians until the permanent PATH station gets built would be fantastic. The hoards of people going through Vesey and Church (southbound) is just insane and I'm surprised no one has gotten hurt yet.

I don't suppose the $100 rate applies to Newport residents as well does it? Because I'm paying $175 per month to park in that garage, assuming we're talking about the garage that is closer to Hamilton Park and if the $100 rate applies to me, I've been a sucker for over a year but would like to make sure I'm being charged the lower amount if I am eligible.

Yes, it's the garage closest to HP. Unfortunately this rate is only for residents of the Hamilton Park neighborhood, you need to provide proof of address to get the $100 a month rate (lease, mortgage). I think it has something to do with an agreement with the neighborhood when they built the mall back in the '80's.

This is one of the reasons I now have monthly parking at the Newport Mall. Parking is not only a hassle but due to parking on the street my last car had quite a few dents from being hit by other cars. If you're a Hamilton Park resident it only costs $100 a month for parking at the mall. My only regret is not having done this sooner.

Personally I think the Cinnamon Snail truck (Vegan) is amazing. One of the best food trucks in NYC that also makes a visit to Redbank and the Jersey City Farmers Market (at Grove Street). You can follow them on twitter @VeganLunchTruck for the days they come to Jersey City.

If you're a Hamilton Park resident you can park at the Newport Mall parking garage for $100 a month (you need to present a copy your lease or mortgage as evidence). Unfortunately I'm not sure how much it is if you're not a resident of HP. I park there and haven't had any issues.

I went to visit the Mall parking offices about a month ago to inquire as I'm thinking about parking there myself. The office is actually on the first (ground floor) by the car rental office (actually in back of it facing Marin Blvd) all the way in the Northwest part of the lot (between Sears and Marin Blvd). It's $100 a month and you need to bring a copy of your lease (or mortgage) and a utility bill (if I remember correctly) to evidence that you live in Hamilton Park. The first payment is $110, $10 extra for the paperwork fee.

They're using a different runway I believe the East - West one due to repairs on the main runway that is normally used (the one that parallels the NJ turnpike. Because of that the planes have to swing over Jersey City to head west to land. Hopefully as the above poster said repairs will be finished by tomorrow so they can get back to their normal flight paths.

I use Healthy Paws too for my 2 cats. They have good reviews and I liked the coverage and the price. They also have a foundation that helps animal shelters and rescue groups so I felt good supporting them.

I pay about $19 monthly each cat with a $250 annual deductible and 90% coverage. I figure its worth it as my previous cat got sick and I couldn't afford the bills after a while (I had to finally put her down). I promised myself that if I got another cat(s) I would get the coverage.

Vigilante, I agree the bus hardly ever pulls over into the curb to load/unload passengers anyway but I digress..

I wonder if the JC Police (and it *is* the cops not the Parking Authority ticketing) takes count of how many tickets get thrown out per officer? I mean really, if the courts are constantly throwing out those unwarranted tickets isn't someone going to take notice?

Just thought I would post here to warn people about parking in that bus stop during the hours that the bus stop is *NOT* in operation (weekends & early morning weekdays). I parked there on a Sunday and got a parking ticket even though the sign says 6:30AM - Midnight Mon - Friday Bus Stop no parking. I got the ticket dismissed by the Judge today after showing him a photo of the sign, but he said he has no idea why they are ticketing those spots and its possible that I could get another ticket if I parked there. I saw a cop last weekend again giving tickets... I don't get it. Either its a new cop writing the tickets or they want to see how many people will actually contest it.

I always thought taking my bike to Grove St and locking it up on the bike racks there before I get on the PATH but am a bit worried about theft (seeing I'd be leaving it from morning until afternoon). Any theft issues over there? Obviously I use a good Kryponite lock...

I was stuck in this mayhem this morning too. Luckily the escalators were still working but when you got to the top there was no room to get off the moving escalators. I barely made it off myself. I have a suspicion that in the middle of the heavy crowds this AM (due to police activity) they were closing off the ped crossing (on and off) into Vesey Street because they were allowing construction trucks to get through into the WTC site. Now I didn't see this happen but when I got to the top nobody was moving out of the station at all. It seemed like we were being held back, although I couldn't see why. 10 minutes later the crowd started to move and the Vesey Street passageway was not backed up at all.

As others have mentioned before, if you have a car Secaucus Animal Hospital are very very good. Dr. Hatch & Dr. Danforth (Dr. Cavedo's now married name) are excellent they treat your pets like their own and don't force unneccesary treatments or drugs on your pets.
