This is a shame. I really like that store and always had a positive experience when I shopped there plus I enjoyed browsing and buying some of the cute gifty items there and it's non-tradtional style merchandising...

I stopped going to Newport about 4 years ago. If you want to enjoy the movie theatre experience, I'd recommend Edgewater Mutiplex Theatres in Edgewater at 339 River Road. Although a bit on the pricier side, I find it worth it. The seats are the roomiest I've seen, the theatres are impeccably clean and the Moviegoers tend to be more on the mature side.
I also go to Loews at New Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth if going with my entire family. There are lots of spacious, arena type theatres, with very large screens. They're also pretty clean, not impeccable but alot better than Newport. Personally I have not had a bad experience there however I stress that it's more a family type theatre. I have never had a bad experience there personally and I've noticed the matinees tend to be alot less crowded...

I can't get over the fact that someone refused to give any information, In a prior news post on this thread is a statement from the Hudson County Prosecutor: "DeFazio asks that anyone who may have been attacked by these dogs to call his office at (201) 795-6959"
Please pass this information to your friend.

I will pass on the information. Thanks.

Cops: Man attacked by unleashed dogs in Downtown Jersey City

by Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal
Monday January 19, 2009, 6:14 PM

A Jersey City man was attacked by two mastiffs in the city's Downtown neighborhood this morning, and the owner of the dogs was issued two summonses for failing to keep them on leashes, officials said.

Susan Clob, 58, of Dudley Street, was issued the summonses after the 7 a.m. attack at Christopher Columbus Drive and Washington Street, police said.

The 24-year-old victim, a resident of Brunswick Street, was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center in stable condition and appears to have suffered injuries to his arm, officials said.

When police responded they saw the dog owner leading the mastiffs into a nearby building and a witness flagged down the cops and pointed out the victim who had run into a nearby lobby, reports said.

The victim said Clob unleashed the large male and smaller female dogs, which then ran across the street, police said. The male bit his arm, then the female bit him as well.

Clob tried to pulled them off the victim but they were both dragged to the ground, police said.

A witness tried to scare the dogs off by driving his car toward them but that did not work, police said.

Construction workers at a nearby project approached the dogs and banged their helmets on the ground to scare them as the larger one was going for the victim's neck, police said.

The dogs let up enough for the victim to run to the safety of a nearby building with the larger dog on his heels, police said.

Clob was issued the summonses but the dogs were not taken away, officials said.

I know of another person who was attacked by these same dogs in a prior incident less than 2 weeks ago. He was inquiring as to whether I had any information about the dogs or the owners. In the end, all he was able to do was file a police report. Apparently after the incident the owner took off and refused to give him any information about themselves. It's horrendous that this happened yet again and who knows how many other times. This is disgraceful. I did see in this thread that this should hopefully be coming to a resolution as of yesterday...

You can help cook, or serve, or wash dishes, whatever your kid is comfortable with. Everyone is pretty laid back and i have signed quite a few forms for kids doing community service for school who come volunteer. It's from 7am to @ 9:15am saturday and sunday. There is a different coordinator for each day and you can just show up that morning and go to the kitchen and introduce yourself.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I appreciate all the different ideas. My son is really interested in the breakfast program. It seems like the right fit for him.

It was really inconsiderate, even for a bunch of Jersey guys.

My gf and I eventually just decided to go up to the street and ate a diner till about 5AM until we thought the PATH would clear up. It was still bush at that time, but at least we got on.

I know that they run trains infrequently at night, but would don't they add more trains on nights like this? They already know what's coming.

More trains should've been put in service, I mean Hello, it was Halloween. This was outrageous and absolutely inexcusable...

By 6 o'clock or so it had cooled down considerably. The O'Jays were amazing and left me wanting for more.

Kool and the Gang put on an amazing performance when it came to the instrumental jazz tunes however there were 3 new very young members and 2 of them were doing the lead vocals and weren't cutting it unfortunately.

There was no strength in their voices and people started walking out. I felt really bad but understood why they were walking out. Anyone who ever saw them perform back in the day has an extremely high expectation of a performance from them...

I have had numerous issues with Comcast (including them billing me for movies ordered on my box BEFORE my service started - presumably from the prior owner - it took 4 calls and about 2 hours on the phone to resolve) and had another one this weekend.

My OnDemand has been down for at least a week. I call Comcast and the lady answering the phone says that it has been down citywide (although sporadically) for a week and a half. She has no idea when it will be up and running again. I asked if there would be a credit on the account and she replied that there would not be because it was a free service.

While that may be true, one of Comcast's biggest selling points is their on demand and they use it to lure people into buying the movie packages. Indeed, their main page trumpets On Demand even though it is currently unavailable. I think that the feature is one that people don't necessarily consider free but a vital feature of the service.

I can't wait for FIOS.

Sounds like alot of Bull to me. I've had this issue in the past and they credited my account for the days I didn't have it. I'd make some more phonecalls and demands if I were you...

Hey Guys--

I have only had time to read the topic not all of the responses so excuse me if I am being repetitive.

Since Oct 2007, I have lived near the corner of Palisade Ave and Griffith Street in the heights and have found it to be a really good experience thus far. I find Ogden to be a very beautiful and quiet block compared to the rest of the area and (almost) never feel unsafe.

My schedule varies incredibly: I am coming home any day of the week at basically anytime all the way up to 4, 5, or 6 am, taking both public transportation, cabs, and my car. Parking is a bit of a pain in terms of alternate side of the road parking but it is by no means unmanageable.

The neighborhood is generally quiet, but urban, and there are a lot of kids around. At least twice a week, I go running from Franklin to Congress on Palisade and back up Ogden.

You should try visiting and walking the area at different times of the day and see if it suits you.

Hope that helps

-A

I hate being repetitive as well, but I must say I agree with andygens. I moved to the Heights 17 yrs ago from NYC and have never had an issue and have had the experience of coming in at all hours of the night being a 4'11'' female and have come home alone a whole lot.

I have never ever felt unsafe. Don't plan on leaving anytime soon. Plus I love the diversity that is the Heights. Just me and my 5cents...

Bunch of jerkoffs decide to target someone who's lost. What is that? What is the sense in what they did. I become more and more disgusted with these ignorant out of control punks. I see these kind of jackasses all the time. No heart at all.

I hope they're all caught and have to pay heavily for their disgusting and senseless behavior.

Police arriving 17 minutes after the ambulance sounds like typical NYPD behavior.
