Re: Problems with Comcast?

Posting this on July 1st.

For the past probably month or so I've been having terribly unreliable service with my internet. I'm in Downtown. My connection drops pretty much nightly right around 9.

I called tech support and they said they can have someone come out. I told them it's not me, it's you. Then to my amazement they told me there's literally nothing that I, as a customer, can do to resolve this, or to check back on to see that someone was working on the issue.
They have no service advisories on record. There's no department she could point me to that deals with anything related to quality assurance.

Anybody else having this issue? What the hell do you do? Switch to Fios? Does Fios suck?

Before blaming Comcast - maybe think a little more and that the problem could possibly be on your end. I hate Comcast as as a company, their customer service is pathetic, but I've had them here downtown for 13 years and they have been extremely reliable.

My guess is you have issues with your equipment.. maybe modem, router, or your devices.

Get real. Who the hell is checking Waze and looking up street closures online when it occurs to them mid-afternoon Saturday that they need to run to Target or Home Depot to get a few things too large to handle by bike or walking? I'm a creature of the 21st century and use Waze when venturing out on the TPK and beyond, but it's a bit much to expect people to take those steps for such a small, run of the mill trip.

Besides - there really weren't any good answers. If you had to get out, all Waze and the website would have told you is that you are screwed. And none of which addresses the ambulance....

Why such a crank about it?

Better a crank than a fumduck who doesn't realise that during summer months there are frequently events and festivals that shutdown parts of JC.

(Quite happy to trade insults with entitled d bags if that's where you want to take the thread).

Events and Festivals - no problem. Events, festivals + closing off Grand & Monmouth for paving on a Saturday afternoon = Terrible Planning.

Perhaps not everybody is exactly the same as you and some people need to drive places on their day off. I was stuck in that clusterfk for about 40 minutes just trying to get from the Pathmark plaza to York & Grove.

I rarely drive and was stuck in that mess trying to get home from the auto shop.

It was poor planning to shut down Monmouth and Grand and cross sections during the same day as the JC Eats. They should have just paved that during a weekday, not on a day that there will be a ton of cars. If you were stuck west of Monmouth and tried to get downtown, it was ridiculous.

I've never witnessed about 20 cars driving on the rear side of the building of the old Pathmark just trying to figure out how the hell to get home before.

TSA-precheck is often just a long sometimes longer then Premier line as there is usually only 1 or 2 screeners.

I was opposed to that ordinance, but your comment is off base: supermarkets were excluded from the chain restrictions.

Okay - didn't realize that.
Still a terrible ordinance.

Look at it this way: If every foot of parking space in the city was divided by the total number of taxpayers, each individual would l get X feet of parking space that "belonged" to them. Likely this would be a strip measured in inches. Until citibike came along, non-car owners could not utilize parking spaces for any legitimate reason even though they were helping to pay for them. As a non car owner It would have been nice if I was exempt from paying some of my taxes to account for the fact that I was not utilizing the parking I was paying for, or if I was able to lease "my" parking space percentage to the car owners, but this has never been the case. But now non-car owners have a legitimate use for a very small percentage of the total parking spaces and you know what? I want MY space used for bikes, and so do a lot of other people. In fact there should be ten times as many citibike stations around town and I hope there will be in the future. This will still leave the vast majority of parking spaces to he car owners and is more democratic. Also lets remember that most of the citibike stations in Jersey City are not IN parking spots. Car owners do not like the loss of ANY spots and are putting up all sorts of irrational arguments against the use of citibike, which is hilarious but shows their overdeveloped sense of entitlement

This is extremely hard to read and understand what in the world your talking about.

The women that used to drive the car on my block knew my neighbor. She would sit outside the brownstone every single day and hit the horn and wait a good minute or two for my neighbor to come out and move the car.

So I guess the key is to just know the person giving out the tickets then your set.

What's there really to complain about? The signs clearly say no parking for the entire 2 hour period.

If the sweeper is not consistent every day due to road construction, I don't think there is a valid complaint as long as the sweeping occurs at some point during the 2 hours.

This is such an insane argument by a clearly senile Yvonne. We are supposed to be catering to blind confused voters by having a separate election? Really? I'm pretty sure if someone doesn't have the ability to read the ballot, I don't want them voting.

PATH to L -- you walk up stairs from PATH out to the street, go to the right, and right down the L train stairs on the same corner.

Dey St extension has been completed for at least a year, but I don't believe it's ready to be open until after WTC PATH station is open which keeps getting delayed.

I don't think anyone is joking about this. People are saying it is an utter waste of time to focus on forecasts so prematurely, as they are notoriously unreliable until you get closer to the event. In fact, looks like that's what's going to happen here.

Now I understand why people like obsessing over these forecasts well in advance of when the storm would hit (despite their unreliability). It injects drama and excitement into their lives. It generates clicks because people think what if it actually happens? It's essentially a form of entertainment.

If you want to indulge, by all means go ahead. I think that's what the majority of this thread consists of, and there's nothing wrong with it per se.

But there is a problem when you want to accuse the rational people who don't need to engage in this form of entertainment as being somehow irresponsible or failing to treat a possible event with the seriousness it deserves. Like I said, wait until two days before and then see what the forecasts say. Then you will be receiving news instead of entertainment.

The storm was supposed to hit on Monday, not Saturday. Saturday is when you start looking at the forecasts if you want to see if there is a realistic chance it will actually happen. Looking when this thread was first posted is what is meaningless. I called it entertainment, but for those who stress about it we can say "spinning your wheels."

Your point about a disaster plan is irrelevant. Living in a flood zone, you should always have a disaster plan ready. Not wait until now to come up with it. Assuming you are responsible and already have a plan in place, look at the Saturday forecasts and determine what, if anything you should follow in your plan.

Would have been great to be on same program of Hoboken so we don't have to transfer PATH trains to get over there. Also be able to use the path along the Hudson.

That said, it's Hoboken that are the foolish one's that are going with their own system. Jersey City made the right move to link up with the real city.

Well, it's getting some free publicity with the crazy price, and maybe someone sees it, likes it, offers less, and gets it.

The more you guys and others talk about it and draw attention to - the more the realtor has accomplished their goal.

Thats really a short term fix, and likely will last the summer. However, if you have it serviced professionally, they will evacuate the system and try to find leaks or the cause of the problem which is likely the real issue.

However, only time I'll bring it elsewhere if it is major work like engine work.
