Thanks o73o2. Interestingly enough, I've seen cars in Manhattan run RCL's from a dead stop and the camera still went off. I really wonder what the lower threshold is supposed to be.

I never contradicted myself. A car can come to a complete stop, then make a right on red, and the camera will still take the photos as if the car was running the red light because technically it is running the red light even though in this case you are legally allowed to make a right on red. The camera does neither detect if the car came to a complete stop or a rolling stop. Simply put, it is not designed to determine what kind of stop a car made, but whether or not the car enters the intersection on a red light. Your statements leave the reader with the false impression that if a vehicle comes to a full stop, it will not set off the camera, when in actuality the camera will be activated regardless of the type of stop.

The cameras do not detect if you came to a complete stop or not. They are designed to detect any vehicles that runs a red light. The triggers are usually induction loops. These sense a change in current, not whether or not a vehicle came to a full stop. Lasers, radar, and video loop comparison models also don't discern these differences. After the photo is taken, a person is required to review the several photos that are taken to determine whether or not a violation occurred.

Jersey City clothing designer shows his passionate love for the city
By Julius Zeitlinger/The Jersey Journal A Jersey City man has designed and produced a clothing line that shows exactly how he feels about the city. Dennis Whittinghill, owner of Damaged Wear, is selling graphic T-shirts with art that reads ?I F---ing Love Jersey City.? Whittinghill, 37, who has lived in Jersey City since 2004, wanted to express his feelings about the city. ?I love Jersey City and I wanted to make something fun for my friends to wear,? said Whittinghill. Below the phrase on the T-shirt is graffiti with the Jersey City skyline in the background. Whittinghill, who has owned Damaged Wear for two years, said he?s sold hundreds of the Jersey City-loving T-shirt online and will soon be hawking the shirt and other clothing items at the LITM restaurant and bar on Newark Ave. Originally from Elizabeth, Whittinghill said he?s considering creating similar T-shirts for other towns. ?The response to the shirts has been great. Everywhere I go, people always tell me that I should make one for their town,? said Whittinghill. The Jersey City-centric shirts are being sold for $29.99 at damagedwear.com. Damaged Wear also has the Jersey City art on tank tops, hoodies, and long sleeve T-shirts. Has anyone ever noticed how many permit handicap parking spaces exist on 4th between Jersey and Erie. I don't know how legitimate they really are but I recall almost all of north side of the street is permit handicap and a few on the south side are as well.
I have a neighbor that lives across the street from me and he has a handicap parking permit. Everyone in his entire family is capable of getting around without any assistance and don't have any medical issues. I just think he wanted a spot reserved in front of his house. I'm going to go get a doctor's note for my own private parking spot in front of my house.

No pferm. It seems that this city has an unusually high amount of people that live and visit here that just don't know how to drive. Case in point: as we we're driving home last night, some person decided to speed through the stop sign at 7th and Jersey. Had my wife not been as attentive as she was and slammed on the breaks as quickly and hard as she did, we would have been t-boned and my 3-yr old or I or both of us probably would have been seriously injured as the point of impact would have been on the passenger side. The at fault party came to a stop about half way into the intersection, glared at us, and sped off. It is more than just people parking close to the curb and blocking line of sight. It is more than people just not paying attention. It is more than people speeding. I guess this city and state just has a higher number of people that think they have the right of way regardless, are selfish, and just don't care about anyone else. I grew up in Brooklyn, and drove all around the NYC, but it seems we didn't have nearly as high an accident rate at intersections as we do in JC. We have just as narrow streets in NYC, we have just as many people parking right up to the corner, but I guess NY'ers just know better and proceed with caution. As bad a reputation as NYers have for driving, NJ drivers in my experience are far worse. I know there are good people and good drivers in this state, and I don't mean to condemn this entire state and city, but that has just been my experience here.

I haven't seen which slabs have been marked this time, but the last time this was done, all the slaps that had cracked were marked. Sadly, it was only a month or so after the sidewalks had been laid. It is indeed a waste of taxpayer dollars.
I'm sure the excuse we will get will have something to do with the extremely has winter we experienced rather than the poor workmanship and material. I don't think the sidewalks are nice at all. They were poorly laid and are of sub-quality material. I'd rather the city dug up those sidewalks and put them in the right way. However, this is Jersey City and I shouldn't expect anything less than below sub-standard quality.

Maybe I am being naive, but are there really an additional 1.2 million people that in JC every day? An increase of 465% every day? Really? I'd like to see where those numbers come from because I don't feel a 5X increase in crowd density every day. Anyone have any insight into this?

First of all, the police do not need to pull you over to run your registration. Second, the police do not need a plate scanner to read your plate. They have the ability to type it in by hand on their computers. Third, if this is like the device used in many other cities, as the police drive by parked vehicles, the scanner reads the plates and compares it to the database. It is a much quicker system than pulling up to every parked car and running the registration. You clearly don't understand how this system is being used. Fourth, just because you have not been responsible enough to maintain your vehicles registration does not make this a stupid system. If the police were behind you and knew that your registration was expired, they would have pulled you over. It is not like they are writing secret tickets. Just a heads up for people? Really? Maybe you should also give people a heads up for maintaining vehicle insurance. Maintaining their vehicle inspections? Making sure they have a valid driver's license? Shall we give everyone a reminder for everything they need to be responsible for? Fifth, yes really an arrest and impound for outstanding tickets, fines and scofflaw warrants. It's a shame it has taken this long for the city to start catching up to people with unpaid tickets and fines. I'm sure it will not be a windfall for the city, but at least they will be collecting the money that is due. And by the way, any offense is an arrestable offense. It is up to the officer whether or not he/she wants to be that extreme. It is also up to the violator. Bad attitude usually leads to heftier fines, more violations, and nice jewelry. Most officers would rather not deal with the additional paperwork. I'm no fan of the city when it comes to taking money from people, but if you have outstanding tickets and/or are a numerous offender I applaud the city and JCPD.

I've often wondered why the police, and I don't just mean JCPA, but PD in general, don't just go to the residence and impound the vehicle there. I had a friend whose registration from an old car was stolen years ago in NYC. She kept getting notices for unpaid violations and couldn't renew her registration. Even after going to court and getting it cleared up, she kept getting notices and holds on her license and registration. I got a list of where the violations occurred, which happened to be in common general vicinity, drove over to the general location, drove in a 3-block radius and voila, in 5 minutes, I found the car with the stolen registration. We went to the local precinct, explained the situation, but they said there was nothing they could do. This guy had a stolen registration and had about $10K in unpaid fines, yet the PD was unwilling to do anything. I never understood that.

I don't think any of us are naive. Do you think that all restaurant workers always wash their hands after "doing their business"? I've never gotten sick from any of the food carts or trucks and I have eaten from plenty of them. I can't say the same for eating at some of the establishments. Quote:
A zone for food trucks to not interfere with restaurants? I don't hear the local restauranteurs clamoring to have these trucks zoned. And anyhow that's the beauty of free market. If the restaurants are being interfered with by losing customers to a food truck, then maybe that restaurant really isn't that good to begin with and/or maybe they should adapt to the changing conditions to retain customers. And hey, some business will end up failing. That's just the y way it is. However, I don't see the food truck and cart industry bleeding the "brick and mortar" restaurants dry here in JC or in any other city for that matter. There is no need for any new or additional inspections. I assume just like in most other cities, inspections are made periodically and randomly of various food service locations, be it a cart, a truck, or a "brick-and-mortar". The should already be looking into these things to begin with. I don't mean to be the cynic here, but I think the city would find a way to turn using the health inspectors into another cash cow shaking down the food vendors, just how the JCPA shakes down the citizens by writing tickets and booting improperly, just like the buildings departments shakes down the citizens when doing work on their homes, just like the buildings department and health department shake down new eating establishments with fees and "codes". This city is good at stifling new businesses and new ventures that would be and are a great asset. I'm also wondering how this would impact festivals like JC Fridays and the BBQ food truck event if vendors are required to stay 100 feet from each other. If they do pass an ordinance, I wonder if the actual phrasing will be "brick and mortar". I think I can argue some places are cinder block and wood with vinyl siding and a brick exterior facade and sheetrock interior.

Yes I did and no argument there. Though to speculate some more, 5 officers and a supervisor on scene can hardly count as "well into the incident.". Do you know what the scene was like a few minutes later? Were the tourists all held back and diverted? By the way, he are the facts to support my speculation from a NY Times article Gunman Kills Himself After Standoff on Brooklyn Bridge, supporting my Brooklyn officers arrived first (84th Precinct two blocks away), Manhattan officers arrive later (1 PP a whole bridge away but they can't drive across the walkway, 5th precinct from Canal and Elizabeth) and tourists with no situational awareness: -------------------------------------------------------------- Before the confrontation, the man might have fired at least one shot into the air from his 9-millimeter pistol shortly after 10 a.m. Two shell casings were found on the Brooklyn half of the bridge, although no witnesses reported seeing him fire the gun, the police said. The shooting occurred during one of the bridge's pedestrian lulls, between the morning's march of commuters and the afternoon's strolling tourists. The 911 call reporting a man with a gun came from Brooklyn, and officers in a police helicopter confirmed the report. Officers from the 84th Precinct, which patrols the bridge, swarmed around the man, alternately ordering bystanders to stand back and for him to drop his gun, witnesses said. Their guns were drawn, and they continued to shout ''Get down!'' and ''Drop the gun!'' Another tourist, Larry Fry of Youngstown, Ohio, was just beginning his trek to the Brooklyn side around that time. ''I thought they were yelling at me,'' he said. Then he noticed the man, his back to the fence that separates pedestrians from Brooklyn-bound vehicle traffic. ''He sat down when they ordered him down, like Indian style,'' Mr. Fry said. ''Once he sat down, he pulled the gun.'' The man never pointed the gun at the officers. Indeed, the barrel was always pointed at his own chest, which is why the officers did not use deadly force, the police said. He was taken to New York University Downtown Hospital, where he died later yesterday. Officers from the Fifth Precinct in Manhattan and from nearby 1 Police Plaza swarmed onto the bridge, closing all traffic for the better part of an hour. One lieutenant leaving the scene expressed amazement that none of the officers had fired. ''Those cops showed unbelievable restraint,'' he said. -------------------------------------------------------------- I think making an outrageous statement that LE are ill prepared from photo is purely argumentative and based on opinion and not fact. We can go back and forth on that photo. I just think it was a poor choice to base your argument on. What sort of redundancy do you want? I'm of the mind that everything is an easy target and once the final stages are rolling, if someone is determined, nothing short of outstanding measure will stop them. No city, state, government or country has a terrorist proof plan.

I've used cinnamon and it worked within 24 hours. No more ants.
From http://greenbabyguide.com Barriers: Sprinkle or spray these in ant walkways or areas where they enter your home. Their odors disrupt the scent trails ants create for each other. * White or yellow chalk (ants will not cross a chalk line) * Cucumber peelings * Red chili or dry mustard mixed with a bit of water * Lemon juice * White vinegar or half strength cider vinegar * Orange based environmental cleaning products * Cloves * Coffee grounds * Cinnamon * Baking Soda * Baby powder * Black pepper * Mint Leaves * Mint tea bags Ant traps: You?ll need.. * Borax * Sugar * A sticky substance such as mint jelly or peanut butter Mix the substances together thoroughly. Spread the mixture on a cracker and place out of the way of children in a cupboard or on a countertop. When the ants get the food, they?ll also get the poison.

With regard to the Brooklyn Bridge incident Vig, were you there when it happened and when this photo was taken? The call probably came in as some sort of EDP, injured person, man making terroristic threats on the Brooklyn side of the bridge. Therefore the police on the Brooklyn side probably got their first. The police probably did not get there from the Manhattan side yet. What do you think happened to the throngs of people that were already on the bridge as the incident unfolded? Of course they would be right there. Yes there are some people carelessly walking and biking toward sthe incident. Why? Because most people lack situational awareness. I don't understand what stepped up coordination among agencies you want from this event in 2004 as it all happened within the jurisdiction of NYPD. With regard to the Holand Tunnel, again, what do you mean by stepped up coordination among agencies? This event happened completely within the PAPD jurisdiction and handled by the PAPD. What coordination did they need to have with other agencies regarding this incident? Be on the lookout for a car full of criminals? It is so easy being an armchair quarterback and being so hypercritical when you don't have all the information and you weren't there. Quote:
Who was supposing? The poster was quoting a newspaper article. I assume that since the car was abandoned in the tunnel and there were a few police cars in the tunnel associated with the incident, there were a bunch of cars stuck between the incident and the tolls and no cars between the incident and the NY side. Therefore, to expedite getting the injured some treatment, it would have been easier to transport to Bellevue rather than JCMC. Quote:
Of course security is mostly theater. Most of security is to deter 99% of criminals and idiots from committing crime. You want a pop up barricade at the tunnel? Let's say there is on installed. Let's say a car blows thru going to the tunnel and the barricade is activated. I would bet the cars operated by people lacking situational awareness in front of this hypothetical speeding vehicle would slam into the barricade first. Did it stop the speeding car? Yes. Why was he speeding in my hypothetical case? Let's say he was involved in a hit and run at the tolls. I can see the drivers that slammed into the barricade suing the PAPD for damage to their vehicles among other things because we just happen to live in an overly litigious society and it had nothing to do with a terroristic threat or activity. I can see people saying that the PAPD jumped the gun and overreacted by activating the barricade. Most federal building either have the barricades up already, or have checkpoints and federal law enforcement actively patrolling the perimeter and access points. I could be wrong, but I think many of you would feel your civil rights were threatened if the city, state, federal authorities would impose the martial law type measures necessary to effect the type of security you are talking about. Quote: PBW wrote Why would this be a federal crime? But I fully agree with your second statement. Could the PAPD have set up a traffic slow down and just pulled over the car on the NY side of the tunnel? Maybe. Would it still have led to a shooting? Maybe. Am I going to question the methodology and actions taken by the PAPD in this instance. No. I wasn't there and I don't walk in their shoes and I can never understand what goes thru their minds during an incident. There's no point in armchair quarterbacking or speculation, especially in this forum.
