Does anyone know the details about the new construction that's just beginning on Newark & 3rd Street, between Monmouth & Brunswick? (It's a U-shaped lot. They just demolished a building with a day care center in it in to accommodate whatever it is they're going go to build. Please share. Thank you.

Was the day care center still in operation ? If so find out if they moved and contact them. Also did anyone in the area recieve a notice from city hall for demolition and chance to oppose this new building ?

Why should people oppose this new building? This area of newark needs some serious cleaning up.

!!!!! ENOUGH !!!!!!!

If you don't like Taqueria don't eat there,

Taqueria- Don't indulge the people that post negative reviews. It makes you look bad.

Yes, your staff needs to work on their attitude but I don't go there for the ambiance I go for the friggin tacos. The girl upfront with the boobs has a stink face all the time and Moby was a dick but he's gone and you can still speak to her about her attitude. These are fixable things.

People, this ain't no 3 star restaurant where they wait on you. Order your food sit down, eat it and leave. You want restaurant service then pay for it. The tacos are cheap and would be more expensive if they had wait service but then you would be bitching about the increase in prices.

The tacos are hands down the best in the tri-state area and thank you for making them at a reasonable price.

This is some Mickey Mouse Bullsh!t and I'm sick of people bitching and moaning because they didn't kiss your @ss the last time you went there. It's a taco place, get over it. Don't you have better things to do than to b!tch about the same things over and over again?

Done

Also they should put those signs up that state you must stop if a pedestrian is in the cross walk. They are on Monmouth at every intersection. Why not Jersey? It's a state law.

These kids need guidance, they are slowly killing each other. Where is the leadership in this community? Where are the parents? Disgusting. Makes me sick, I don't even like driving through these neighborhoods. So sick of the thug culture.

A. The value is way too low. 320k gets you a condo, not a 3 story house. That house should be over 500k even in this market.

B. Why did they take out a 2nd loan? What happened to that money?

C. How much money did they put down when they bought the house? Sounds like they didn't have a lot of equity to begin with.

D. Do a short sale and start over if you can't handle it.

Something doesn't add up and this story has a lot of holes. I fell bad for the couple but I'm sure a lot of people lost equity (including myself) but I wasn't taking out 2nd loans.

If they did 100% financing on the fist and they now owe 580k that means that they took out a 260k 2nd mortgage. Where did that money go????

Re: Stop sign at Wayne and Jersey Avenue?

That's a really bad intersection. Actually, there a few really bad intersections on Jersey Avenue but that is one of the worst.

The problem with Jersey and Wayne is that cars speed to catch the light at Columbus and they block the box when the light is red.

Someone posted a few weeks ago about it being against the law to drive through the intersection when a pedestrian is in the crosswalk. The city would make a fortune handing out tickets at that intersection.

This city is strapped for cash and they are bleeding property owners dry with increasing taxes. It makes me mad as hell and frustrated beyond belief that this city doesn't post a cop on these corners to hand out tickets. My parents live in Westchester Co. and in their town there is a cop on the same corner every day writing tickets one after another. The guy just stands there and actually looks in your windsheild to check your registration. The point I'm trying to make is that the locals know to make a complete stop, it's the idiots from out of town that get tickets for speeding through town.

Simple fix, I don't get why the mayor's office doesn't get it.

In fact I would eat more tacos if they ever got around to doing delivery. wink. wink.

that's not true at all. there's so many quiet neighborhoods in manhattan. even when i lived in midtown off 41st street in tudor city you wouldn't hear any street noise the entire day. granted it was a dead end street but to say there is always constant background noise in nyc is misleading.

but anyway, jersey city like most cities is filled with apartment buildings and row homes. if you got thousands of people stacked on top of each other working and going out different times of the day you're going to hear something.

you shouldn't move here expecting that everyone around you is on the same sleep schedule as you. the people complaining seem to not care about having a lively, upbeat, and friendly community. it makes me happy to see everyone hanging out at groove on grove enjoying the environment they live in. who cares if someone above needs to turn up their tv because of it.

+1

You can't please everyone all the time. Groove on Grove is great for downtown. The woman complaining in the article was trying to sleep during the day time.

I just walked home from the PATH and they were walking down the middle of Columbus Ave. Not crossing Columbus but down the middle of the road pushing their BJ's cart yelling at cars. Cars were stopping in the middle of the road honking their horns at them.

Unreal, I got to start videotaping them.

Paco & Taco... what's the story with these people?

I'm sure anyone that lives or spends time downtown esp. in Van Vorst or around grove street has crossed paths with them before. I'm not sure which one is Paco or Taco and I only use those names as I heard them before on jclist

Him
tall, latino, shaved bald head, walks with a limp (only recently) usually drunk

Her
short, latina, chubby, always DRUNK and mostly nasty

For the past week or so she's been sporting some pretty impressive black eyes and bruises on her face and arms. Looks like someone worked her over pretty good. Not sure if it was her man as I don't want to speculate but I witnessed them screaming at each other on regular occasions.

So jclist, what's their story? Do they live around here? Do they have family that let them roam wild downtown.

I've seen the girl talking sh!t to business owners on Newark and I've personally gotten into it with the guy but nothing resulted from it, we both walked away.

Does anyone have an idea how to estimate what the new taxes will be on a brownstone in downtown? I'm looking for more space but scared sh!tless that if buy now that the taxes will double in the next 2 years. Most of the townhouses I've seen have annual tax bills in the 12k range, some higher around 16k. I think those numbers are CRAZY especially since the public schools kinda suck around here. Seems that a lot of houses are on the market right now. Do you think the owners are trying to sell now before the tax bills come in and bankrupt them?

Great, maybe now these idiots will slow the F down or at least get tickets for blowing lights.

With all the out of towners cutting through our city, we should be ticketing the hell out of them for speeding, running red lights and stop signs.

We are in the middle of a budget crisis, ticketing out of towners is a great way of raising revenue as well as making our streets safer.

There are a number of problems with Jersey City and bars. For one, New Jersey has a great deal of restrictions on liquor licenses, and there simply are not enough licenses available -- which ultimately makes licenses more expensive, like a commodity. Since the license to serve alcohol is so expensive, that puts a lot of pressure to chase quick and easy profits rather than longer term strategies.

Second, Jersey City has also instituted restrictions on bars in proximity to each in a misguided effort to prevent the Hobokenization of Newark Avenue / Grove Street. This hasn't helped the redevelopment of Newark avenue.

Finally, bars and residential neighborhoods can coexist. It happens all the time in Manhattan. Admittedly, bars have become more intrusive to residential neighborhoods ever since indoor smoking bans went into effect thus pushing patrons outdoors, but that is a separate issue. The bigger problem is issues one and two, where a finite number of liquor licenses and restrictions on where bars can exist all contribute to the problem.

+1 ianmac get's it.

Chris- Will miss you at Barrow. Hope you open a new place soon. I'll be there for opening night.
