Finally found it - there is a big freaking construction dumpster at the curb - but the big SAVA banner helped. The pierogies were sensational and cheap. Can't be beat.

Re: Poor service from USPS package carrier in Van Vorst Park

To go another way with this - before I moved to JC, I lived in a non-doorman building. There was a UPS store in the neighborhood. I went over there in desperation. Turns out they accept packages and hold them for you to pick up - they even call you and let you know it's there. You don't have to have a PO box at UPS either.

They charge a couple of bucks per package for this service. You do need to go in and introduce yourself so they know who you are and what phone number to call. Then I would just use their address as my street address, and any package would get delivered to the UPS store. It saved my sanity.

I went to Epcot one year and purchased a terra cotta fish thing in the Mexico building (I know). It was maybe 12 inches long, and the same height. It got returned to Disney because I didn't know whoever was trying to deliver it. Then I called Disney and the put the whole thing in a bigger box and sent it to me. The shipper (I don't remember who) left me one note and returned it. Then they shipped it out again - by the time I actually collected the package, it was the size of a washing machine.

Just finished Duma Key by Stephen King - which was pretty good - and I read it on my Kindle. I so love this thing. Books are mostly $9.99 at Kindle store on Amazon - they have more than 100,000 titles.

You order the book on the web or on the Kindle and it wirelessly downloads the whole book in 30-45 seconds. It's light to carry, you can change the font in a blink if you forget your reading glasses, and it has a perfectly functional web browser (free web access at least for now).

My dad had Alzheimers and lived in a nursing home. He had bifocals and was always losing his glasses. He would take them off for a minute and forget where they were or they would end up on someone elses face. I used the www.39glasses.com and ordered two pair at a time. I also had him tested with the glasses - and they were good to go.

Who knew? They were telling the truth? My bill gets charged to my Amex - $150.35 every month - and it doesn't list the detail to that level. The paper one gets shredded. Well I take it all back - NOT.

I have one tv, dig, hbo & show, and internet - $150. My phone is Vonage (thank god I didn't buy the stock).

I still really really hate Comcast.

I think we need to get one of those Hoboken automated parking ramps that eats cars. Those must have been hilarious calls to insurance companies.

Guess what? If you have Comcast, your bill is going up. Now.

They have hired a firm to call all their customers and let them know that they made a mistake on the bills. They actually said this. I got my call tonight.

The charge for the equipment - the digital cable box with the dvr that was installed about 18 months ago - is not going up. They made a "mistake" all this time and now they are "correcting" it.

Not to worry, they are not going to charge me retroactively. But the bill is going up to $13.95 a month for equipment. Apparently the equipment charge was either 3.95 or 6.00, depending on your account. You can take half a day off and wait for them to come and install a non-dvr box and avoid the "correction". Or pay it. Verizon not in my building yet. Use connection for tv and internet.

I really really hate Comcast.

The Shipping News by E. Annie Proulx is one of my all-time favorites. Won Pulitzer. Stinky movie with Kevin Spacey tho.

Absolute all time - Annals of the Former World - John McPhee. Plain english geology for those of us not trained in it on how this country got here. Amazing book -

Nothing funny about that....
Zip car. $55 a day INCLUDES insurance and gas and you don't have to park it - just return it. I gave my car away a year ago and don't miss it at all.

Another vote for Paul Lustiger. He does good work - does NOT press you to replace every filling in your mouth. Reasonable prices - rarely had to wait - available for emergency visits.
