Re: Authentic Chinese Groceries and Food - where to go?

I haven' t been to the one in East Hanover, but the one in Edison is pretty big and offers pretty much everything. It's right off of route 1 and I take NJ Tpk to get there...it might be easier to go to the one in Edison, but I just prefer to go south from JC vs. travelling west.

555 is OK but not great. They have produce and meat but the grocery selection is pretty sparse.

I prefer driving down to Edison to Kam Man.

Personally, I don't let my kids pee on the ground. I will bring a portable potette potty when I am potty training my kids. I also keep one in my car. It is hard to ask a 3 yo to hold in his or her pee even a block or two to walk to a store. I would probably take my kid out of the playground and have them do it behind a bush if I was truly desperate.

What were the circumstances of the abduction? Wasn't there a kidnapping last month of a woman and her baby?

People are pissed about this, I won't be surprised if the Richmond County prosecutor is forced to file an indictment due to the howls.

You are clearly misinformed. Get your facts, then make a comment. You're worried about a great adventure ticket when the CEOs of major US banks criminally ran our economy into the ground and then took 16 TRILLION unaccounted for tax dollars to bail their sorry asses out. You're ok with that? You're ok with no one going to jail for that? Here's a name to research: Jamie Dimond. Learn about this man, then get back on JClist.

Yes, because no one but CEOs of banks should be punished when they commit white collar crimes. That makes a lot of sense.

If you buy stamps from the ATM, they charge you more for it. It might be tax, but I've noticed that you are paying 50 cents instead of whatever the price stamps are usually.

Whatever, there is nothing like processed Mac & Cheese. I prefer Kraft. Yum. I've tried making it myself and it's not as good.

TJs has stuff that isn't great for you either. If you buy their frozen meals, it's not any better than the stuff you get at the supermarket IMO.

And TJs is great, but it doesn't hold a candle to Stew Leonard's.

I am not a "concerned folk" my response is simply in reference to calling prostitution in a massage parlor a "victimless crime". I have no idea where this place is and I am not assuming anything. I have no clue if this place is like that, but I do know that there are a lot of places that force women to do these things and the women are not "victimless" by any means.

Who the hell cares to figure that out? Why don't you worry about something worth worrying about. Prostitution, if what you say is even true, is the oldest profession in the world and is a victimless crime. Who the hell cares. Worry more about the big banks who are outright criminals stealing your tax dollars, For example: the $16 trillion given free and no questions asked to the criminal psychopaths (Bankers) who engineered this "crisis" and destroyed our economy. Wake up America!

I wouldnt call it victimless. A lot of those women who work in those types of places are basically enslaved by their employers. They get tricked into coming here and told they will be working as maids or whatever and then are forced to do the rubbing and tugging and god knows what else. They are basically sex slaves. I'm not saying that this place is like that but you would be naive to think that sex trafficking does not exist in America.

I'm scared of venturing into the city, my 3 yr old is very interested in gender and weight at this time and has frequently embarrassed me by inquiring loudly on the gender of different people and have gotten my fair share of dirty looks. Another time he point blank asked, "Mami, why is that lady so big?" AS the lady was passing us by. During our walks he asked if a very tall man with dreadlocks to his shoulders was a man, the man heard it and answered with yes, I am a man. My toddler replied, are you sure? So I have to grow thicker skin or somehow get my toddler to ask questions quietly.

Maybe I should try the light rail and get my toddler acclimated with it first before I take a path train or he'll have a ton of questions aimed at random strangers.

It's fine. You need to grow a thicker skin and also teach your child to not talk about people's appearance. It's totally normal...he's only 3 and I'm sure not many people will be offended by a toddler. Or just give him a lollipop, snack, or other distraction if you think he's going to start to say something offensive. It's a phase, they are curious at that age and it's no reason to shutter yourself from the rest of the world.

So very sad to hear this news. I would see him often, sweeping up Grand Street and around the corner. He obviously had a lot of pride for his community, something we all should model. I remember seeing him on Halloween, he was dressed like the Monopoly man. He looked happy to see all of the children out and about. I never knew his name and I'm sad that I didn't get to know him better.

Re: Officials confirm 13-year-old was struck by car driven by off-duty Jersey City cop

The other day, a boy getting out of school darted out onto the street on his scooter, in front of my car. I slammed on my brake, and was driving pretty slow so I didn't hit him.
The kid didn't even look to see if a car was coming, he was lucky that I was driving slow and paying attention.

There are a lot of kids who do this, I wouldn't be surprised if this child did something similar, and unfortunately got seriously hurt. Kids do stupid things, they think they are immortal. I also wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that the driver was careless and at fault since we've all seen how people drive in this city. I'm sure there were witnesses and if the driver was being careless, it will come out.

In any event, the police officer stopped and took care of the kid, talked to the parents and took the girl to the hospital. This makes me believe that he didn't do anything wrong.

It's a private park. Stevens uses it for recess time, but it's no different than what happens to all the parks in JC in Hoboken during recess/lunch. It's not like they close the park so the Stevens kids use it and not let anyone else in.

The park is great. And I'm actually happy that it's a private park because there's plenty of security guards patrolling the area and NO DOG POOP! I also see lots of people maintaining the park and picking up garbage.

Re: Fruit Flies?

I get fruit flies usually in late spring/early summer. Ugh I hate them! Usually it's the bananas so I toss them out and don't buy them for a while, or at least only buy 2 at a time and eat them within a day.

The best trap is to wash out an empty soda bottle, and pour in some cider vinegar and a squirt of dish soap and leave it out overnight. Those suckers just fly right in and die. You may have to leave out the bottle for several days until you trap all of them. The best thing about this method is you can cap the bottle and toss it out when you're done. I heard that if you toss the dead bugs in the drain they might still have eggs? Not sure if that's true or not.

You need to make sure your dishes are washed and pour bleach in your drain, throw out your garbage every day etc. I'll try washing the bananas from now on to see if that works. Also, keep your onions in the fridge, they like those too.

So there was another carjacking attempt on the news today. Not JC but at Jersey Gardens at 3 pm or so. They found the guys and arrested them. Wonder if they have anything to do with the carjackings here? Very scary and we were thinking of going to Jersey Gardens today.

So what DO you do if someone approaches you with a gun and your family inside? This woman drove off and they shot at her. She is lucky they weren't good shots.

I would want to move out of JC but stay in Jersey but I'm sure my husband would want to leave the NY Metro area.

I'd set my 92 yo grandmother up with the best care possible, pay off my parent's and IL's mortgage, set up college funds for all of my nieces and nephews and help my sister with a new house. I'd also set up both sets of parents with long term care when they get older.

I'd buy a house in NJ somewhere, not sure if we'd move to the shore, maybe buy or rent a small 2 bedroom in the city so we can go there when we want to. My husband would want a boat, and probably a ski house too and invite our friends over for free vacations in the winter and summer.

I've had a few incidents in some of our local parking lots that have given me pause in the recent months. 7:40 pm is not an unreasonable time to be out grocery shopping etc in town.

We all need to be really careful especially those of us who have kids and can get distracted when buckling them in their seats. If you see anybody hovering near your car or anything that looks off, bring yourself and your child back into the store. How scary for this woman and it's a good thing she screamed as loud as she did. I'm not sure what I would do in this situation, I tend to clam up when I'm frightened.

Actually, Perry seems to think that the incidents this year was much less than it was last year. Not sure why people are bashing Mayor Zimmer for trying to put a stop to an out of control situation. At least she's trying to do something.
