It's not just a wall. People like you would have let Liberty Park become a water slide
attraction like Bret Shundler wanted. Do you own property nearby?
Think you would have a different opinion if you did.

Cato, just curious.
What do you think these salaries should be?
Do a comparison througout the major cities in the state and let us know your findings.
Do you think Elena Scambia did a bang up job???
Compare her to Epps. Who is better?

STOP BASHING TEACHERS!!!!!
Yes maybe they should pay more for their benefits but my God,
they can't cure problems society created. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PENSION MONEY?
ASK THE POLITICIANS WHO MISAPPROPRIATED IT.
If our economy was bustling no one would pay attention or VOTE. Now it's open season on these people.
Such hateful times...
Look in the mirror.

OK so now let's blame everyone on UI for our economic woes. What a bunch of whiners. Are u really that immature to think those unemployed can hang around for months just biding there time???? Most folks find this a degrading, depressing event. People have kids, mortgages, bills. How old are these get-overs? 19-20? They hardly equate to those laid off in the tech/financial sector who would give anything to be employed. Let's take all benefits away from everyone. Make the minimum wage 1.25 per hour.
Also, many firms still have pensions like, JPMChase. The fat cats caused this and now we have morons turning on the rank and file.
Grow up.

Crossing guards make about 12-13k a year. There is very litttle overtime and when there is, it is distributed by seniority.
They get a pared down version of city benefits.
They are obligated to cross school children. They do not have keys for changing lights. They are not cops and have no authority to give tickets. They are out in the freezing cold, rain etc... and deal with many pedestrian and motorist insanities. They also sustain injuries. Drive by Lincoln, Snyder, Dickinson or Ferris at dismissal. You will get an appreciation of their efforts. Yes some are awful but many are wonderful and do a great job protecting the kids.

I believe when Bret Shundler was mayor he substanially pared down the amount of city employees. It would be great if we could compare his employee population to the current. This may not be a totally fair comparison as the city has grown since then however, I don't think it would be that far off.

Agree on Tayari.
A bit more on Ms. McFadden,
She is the former president of the NY Mercantile Exchange.
She could command a high seven figure salary however, she works for us. She was a key player in the Depository Trust transaction. We should be honored that she VOLUNTEERS her time to the city.
The other deputy mayors could not hold a candle to her. That comparison is a joke.
Any administration would be lucky to have her, let alone for free.

How did you see cabinets and fixtures and appliances in the units? Were the dancing hippos and flying polar bears talking to you? The units aren't finished, only that showroom on Newark, and I wouldn't call Ikea knock off sh1t "high end".

They can have top of the line everything as far as finishes, it will still never make up for the shoddy construction and lack of soundproofing. You will be able to hear your neighbors down the hall fart.

Well now 1stStGuy. Seems your info is a bit stale. There are models in the complex that are completed. I SAW THEM.
No I wasn't smoking opium. You have no idea what you are talking about. Would love to know what your place looks like. Maybe you live in hi end luxury ......but I think not based on the immaturity of your observations and childish comments.

Saw the units and think they are top notch. Hi end cabinets, fixtures and appliances. Big space for great prices that include garage parking. Bathrooms huge with really nice tile. Full size washer/dryer in every unit. Seems solid to me. Can't speak to the time to market issues and understand that a few buyers backed out due to timing constraints. I dunno seemed much nicer and better made than a lot of stuff on the waterfront.

Re: Stani's comment
I can see your point but...

3. The separated kids would receive special attention to address their socialization issues. This special attention could do a lot of good if it keeps these kids out of the path to truancy and crime. In other words, these kids may need something other than a traditional education and they're not getting it now.

If this would happen how many additional staff do you think this would require? Teachers, school psychologists, social workers, teacher's aides.

And your point is???
They should make a lot less?
I assume the 103k is the principal. How at. The years of service provided by these folks.
I had a teacher that retired from this school. She was by far the most intelligent and qualified educator I have ever encountered. She changed my life and enriched my understanding of literature more than any college professor. She should have been at Mt. Holyoke or Smith.
-I know she made a huge difference and should have earned 500K.

There are gun battles at this school. How do you suggest that activity is curtailed?
Maybe you could ask the overpaid police officers how they recommend the overpaid teachers handle this.

Let's just rail against everyone, throw them all in the same bucket and disparage them. Pay them what the security guards earn so we can get the best and brightest

This is some of the most ill thougt, mean spirited crap spewed by hate.

I never hear solutions!!!!!

That's abt. 125K per position citywide. Juxtapose that with a corporate heirarchy. It's maybe middle management level?
So again, what should these folks make 75K, 80K.
It took most of my teaching friends 30-35 years to go to top salary around 85K. Think about that....... and they are GREAT TEACHERS!
Am I missing something?
Corporate America screwed everyone by reducing/eliminating pensions, benefits etc...and paying the executive level ridiculous money. They appointed all their friends to the board and went to town.
Don't blame these folks because their union stood up for them.

Remember when the state took over and installed Elena Scambia, a very qualified professional.

Well...what changed.

Did you ever look at other superintendent's salaries? Why should Epps or anyone else make less? This job is not a piece of cake.

As far as segregating kid's....enlighten me.......put all the stupid ones together? who makes that determination?
This is laughable. There are gifted and talented programs in schools now. There is McNair Academic. So I guess we just put the unteachables somewhere and let them fail?
It is very complex my friend and your solution is very shaky.

Exactly. How can anyone teach kids whose parents don,t care. The teachers need our support not condemnation. All of you geniuses who mock them should conduct an algebra class at Dickinson or Snyder or better yet a study. It takes teachers 25 years to get to full pay which is abt. 85K
WHOOPEE.
As for MR EPPS ...he is running a huge operation with THOUSANDS reporting to him. What do think his salary should be 50K???
We should revere teachers instead of Wall St execs.
Our values have become garbage.
