Five Guys is open now. A decent burger and pretty good service. I ordered online and my order was ready exactly on time.

It's not In N' Out or Shake Shack level deliciousness, but much better than Fatburger, in my humble opinion.

Just sampled the dumplings and they were delish! Will be back for more. The entire menu looks mouthwatering and extremely reasonably priced - almost everything under $5. Like a little piece of Chinatown.

I notice the "Ducky's and Dumplings" sign is no longer on the storefront. Does this mean they're no longer opening?

Someone explain why the property tax increases are allowed to happen? I thought it was illegal to do a spot assessment?

I propose the punishment for dog owners who don't pick up is that they have to eat their dog's poop in a public forum.

So, anyone know of any good soundproofing companies? Unfortunately I am sandwiched and would need to potentially soundproof both the ceiling and the floor.

If you have thin floors, do try to refrain from wearing high heeled shoes before 7AM in the morning.

I am in total shock looking at my bill. The quarterly payment already increased from $500 to $1000 as of last year. My latest bill was for almost $4000!!!!

MDM, do you mind sharing more info about how you go about filing an appeal, and any tips for a successful appeal?

Parkman, I see you in VVP all the time and am so impressed with how you almost single-handedly maintain the beauty of the park! Thank you!!

Just lamenting over the loss of the tree, but completely trust that it was 100% necessary to remove.

I hope it'll be a pet supply store versus a pet store. The last thing we need is a place hawking puppy mill puppies like that disgusting store in the Newport Mall.

He's always around VWP. He drives a white mercedes and I see him moving it around all the time to avoid ticketing. He often parks on Jersey between Montgomery and Bright.

Somehow I find it funny that the PIMP is also beholden to something as mundane as parking rules.

Re: Downtown Jersey City major streets very unsafe and bad access for pedestrians

Even crossing at Columbus and Grove, which has functioning traffic lights and pedestrian walk signals, is a major hazard. The left turners going south and right turners facing north both aggressively turn onto Columbus heading east while the walk sign is on, especially NJ Transit buses and the various transportation vans.

I've often wish I had a lump of coal or hard rocks in my pocket to through at their windshields.

Downtown JC Churches - Reviews
#51
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I'm toying with the idea of attending church, although I'm agnostic. I admit, the economy is getting me down and I'd just like to go somewhere and feel uplifted. It also sounds like a nice way to meet more people in the community. If there were a Unitarian Universalist church in downtown JC, that's where I'd go. Since there isn't, what are people's thoughts on the different churches downtown? What is the minister like and the congregation mix? I am considering going to either Grace Van Vorst or OLC.

Thanks!

It's impossible even to get ahold of someone at the main JC Post Office on Washington. If you call their number (201-915-7041), no one EVER picks up the phone and when you do get the recorded message, it just tells you that they don't have voicemail.

Ah yes, how comforting to hear about other horrible JC PO experiences. Regarding #5 above, I presented a signed card and my ID and was then hassled by the clerk about not having the same last name as my husband.

"I don't have to give this to you at all, you know," was his great customer-service oriented reply.

Then walked around the package office mocking me in a high pitched voice because I had said, "It's 2009. Not everyone changes their last name."

Today's "Children of Faith" Festival at City Hall - Write to the Mayor if Disturbed
#54
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I was deeply disturbed to see the officially sanctioned gathering in front of city hall today with people holding signs that say "Marriage = 1 man + 1 woman".

I looked up the event on the city hall site and see it's listed as "Children of Faith Festival and Parade". What is this group?!?

This is not the type of community I want to live in, and I intend to write to the Mayor and tell him so. I encourage any like-minded individuals to also write and express their views.

The public events put on at City Hall and Grove Street plaza are usually so positive and community building. It was a shame to see that there's also heart in the community for an event like the one today.

I vote for Van Vorst Park!! Newark Street is unpleasant. But I have to agree, I don't see much demand for bubble tea in this area. I think Bubble Tea would do better in Pavonia Newport where there is a larger Asian population - although they already have a bubble tea house.

I've always thought the Powerhouse was a very cool building with potential to be restored and used as a performing arts venue.

I was curious when I spotted a sign recently on the PATH during my evening commute announcing plans for the Powerhouse.

Here's the site. I like the vision. Only question is when it will actually come to fruition.
