tried maloney's, no dice. tried a couple of other butcher shops in the area, but none of them had any. the shop rite on marin, however, had a bunch.

sourcing ingredients in or around JC

instead of starting a new thread everytime someone is looking for ____ or ____ i thought i would start this thread and we could all use it for whatever ingredients we might be looking for.

right now, i'm looking for some smoked ham hocks to make soup with. anyone know of any supermarkets in JC that carry them? i usually shop at the A&P over by target, but i don't recall ever seeing them there. i was thinking maybe shop rite on marin or maybe even the shop rite in hoboken on 9th and madison since they have a pretty large/varied meat selection. i have a car so i'd be willing to travel to nearby towns, but if i can find what i'm looking for in JC that would be preferable. thanks!

LORD JIM IS DEAD!

i really hope whoever buys this place does it right the next time around because it's a great spot and right across the street from my house. first and foremost they need to improve the food, then they need to get some decent beers on tap in addition to the usual swill, and finally they need to throw out about half of the big-screen tvs.

after being on hold for what seemed like eternity i finally got through to someone and explained the situation. they asked me to go downstairs and read the meter to them. turns out whoever read the meter misread it and that's why i got overcharged. so they're going to send me an adjusted bill next week.

so...i just got my june bill from pse&g. the electric portion is $32.91 and the gas portion is $306.21. for june. last month the gas portion of my bill was $28.18. i haven't turned my heat on in about two months. the only other things in my apartment that use gas are my hot water heater and stove and i haven't used them any more than i did last month. how is this even possible? this has to be a joke, right?

fios is still not available where i live (10th and jersey) and i didn't want to spend the extra money to get a land line so i could get dsl from verizon so i bit the bullet and got comcast hsi. first of all they screwed up the installation date. i signed up for one date online, they came another day. second, i was quoted $71 for installation and first month of service, which i paid upon installation. last week i received a mysterious bill for $120. when i called comcast to ask about it they told me it's because i chose to get "wireless installation" (i lease a router from them for $3/month). it costs $120 for a "trained technician" to plug in a router and spend 5 minutes setting it up? i told the customer service rep that i was never informed that it would cost $120 for "wireless installation" and that if i knew it would cost that much i would have never done it. so then she told me i could just return the router and they won't charge me the $120, which is what i'm going to do. also, i've noticed that my internet has been REALLY slow the past week or so. i hate comcast.

a few weeks ago i bought some smoked turkey legs from a&p and i didn't realize until i got home that they were two days past the expiration date. granted, i know it's my fault for not checking the label, but that meat should not have even been out for sale!

i got a call back from my building manager in regards to installing directv and it looks like i won't be able to do that because of the wires they'd need to drop from the roof to my 1st floor apartment that faces the street in a historic brownstone building in the hamilton park area, BUT he told me that they're in process of wiring our building for verizon fios and he said it should be available within a month or so.

directv in a brownstone?

does anyone live in a brownstone and have directv? i live on the first floor of a five story historic brownstone building and i'd like to get directv installed, but i know that requires installing a dish on the roof and dropping cables down to my apartment. unfortunately my apartment is situated in the front of the building so the wires would be visible. i don't see any wires hanging anywhere else on my building so i assume no one else has directv. it's a condo building and i am an owner and as far as i know they are no rules against doing such a thing, but i'm checking with the maintenence people just to be sure.

i know that there's one in journal square, one on central ave, and one at five corners, but i'm talking about DOWNTOWN. it's RIDICULOUS that there's only one post office serving an area as large as downtown JC.

the montgomery st. post office is on the complete opposite side of town from where i live, plus every time i walk in there there's at least a dozen people waiting in line and maybe two counters open. this is ridiculous. hoboken is half the size of downtown JC and they have three post offices. how is that we only have one?

I Saw Someone Riding A Bicycle On the Pulaski Skyway This Morning

At this point just about nothing is shocking, but I gasped when I saw some dude casually riding his bike on the Pulaski this morning on my way to work. I feel like I'm going to die every time I drive over the Pulaski, I cannot even imagine what this dude was thinking. Suicide attempt or just straight up crazy?

this place is just okay. not great, not horrible. the couple of times i've been there the service has been okay and the food average. i live across the street and i'd rather walk the two blocks to the white star if i want a beer or food or if want to watch a game. plus they have way hotter female bartenders.

ugh. got my bill the other day. can't say i was surprised by the increase, but damn, between this and the increase in my maintenence fees i'm going to be living on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in '08. you'd think with all the money we pay in taxes that the city could afford to fill a few hundred #OOPS#ing potholes though.
