Re: Do you recommend particular Roofer?

I've you're having you're roof done I have 2 hard-learned pieces of advise for you:

1>Don't pay the roofing contractor until it has rained once! The contractor was banging down the door to get paid the very next day after everything was done, and now I know why - the first rain may reveal problems with the work i.e. bad pitching, water pooling, leaks etc.

2>SUPERVISE the work as it is taking place! "Althea" mentioned the 2 contractors "simply redoing my roof over rotten boards without letting me know the situation."

Our roofer tried to do exactly the same thing - even though it was written in the contract & estimate that the area was to be stripped so we could look for damage underneath, make fixes as necessary and avoid sealing in the moisture permanently.

It's just so reassuring that after the latest economic meltdown and continuing recession that there are still people out there who are convinced that any and all rules & regulations are out there just to make our lives miserable....

filthy habits in restaurants

here's something to file under 'restaurant hygiene'. About 3 weeks ago we went to a new place in JC with outdoor seating. My wife went in to check on our order, and when she came back out, saw a bespectacled man changing a NASTY, full diaper right at the dinner table around which were 10-12 evidently imperturbable people. And then without even washing his hands, he returned to his dinner - eating ribs with his filthy hands. YUK!

Just called these guys to fix my stove - took less than half an hour; also fixed our washer some time ago - the tech knew his stuff and was professional & reasonably priced:

Thanks for the info guys - really appreciate it.

Checked out the mixemup site and it looks really good - plus it means a lot that someone can recommend the program from personal experience.

Possibly silly question - do you end up drinking/tasting the cocktails you make - i.e. should I have somebody drive me to the program?

Wondering if anyone has any experience with any particular bartending program in the area - Google shows things like the American Bartenders School in NYC / LIttle Falls NJ, but I'm looking for input from anyone who has travelled this path already...

Is 1 weeks training really enough to train for a new career?

Went to Skinner's last night for the first time, and really enjoyed it. La Chouffe on tap -- amazing!!

Food was very good - would recommend the great mac & cheese - beautiful golden brown top and a tiny dash of horse radish (!), spring rolls, and gravlax (not for the fish that's not that great, but the terrific potato salad it comes with), nice beef salad with slices of savory grilled meat

We sat at a table near the bar, and the service was excellent (thanks Bridgette!)

And did I mention they have La Chouffe on tap!!

Then we went next door to LITM and they have Chimay on tap
(little rivalry?) and the place was jumpin'

Nice evening altogether...
