Re: 99s/10 fare increase

From past fare increases they let you still use the tickets without adding the difference. I can't speak of what they will do this time since this bus is never consistent.

This bus company wonders why they don't have enough people. Every time I am on the bus it is full.
Pricing the fare to $4 make me think people will take other transportation options. Sure if the bus is running on time for me it is a 15 minute trip. Although, now I can take the 87 bus to Hoboken and then a PATH train and even a NY Subway all in the same trip for about the same price as a 15 minute bus ride.

The fare is increasing to $4 for a trip across the Hudson River. I think it is the same for JC and Bayonne. The increase happens on february 18

Is Foghorn Leghorn allowed in Jersey City?

Are roosters allowed in Jersey City? I can't find anything on the municpal oridinance website saying anything against them. A few doors down from where I live someone has a rooster that is constantly roosting or crowing or whatever you call it. It makes noise all morning. It is annoying like car alarms that sound for 5 minutes.

the link provided leaves a parenthesis at the end. You can see it in your address bar. all you need to do is delete the parenthesis in the address bar after clicking in the link provided and the page reloads fine.

Juan you either work for Red/Tan or some other bus company and are trying to force a movement away from the jitneys or you really have some hate going on. All your posts involve your hatred of the jitneys. Sure I would like some regulation on the jitneys but they obviously are making money and providing a service that is considerably lacking. In the heights the 99s/10 does not provide the consistent service I get from the New York jitney on my morning commute. I'd take a jitney home if it was available then. As far as I know the first jitney bus back to NJ starts at 5pm. I have noticed when I take the PATH train and walk the mile home I am getting home before the 99s would get me there. So how can what is supposed to be a 15 minute bus ride be beaten by a 35 minute PATH ride/one mile walk?

I am for a tunnel and ferries not a bridge. The bridge would take up more land to build because it would either have a huge 200 foot circular driving roadway to get you up to 200 feet or start so far back the land needed for the bridge to be held up would be built right through the downtown area. I guess it could be possible to line it up with the Holland Tunnel/Turnpike entrances and go over it, but where do you build it in NYC? Tunnels take up less space then a bridge would.

A wild and expensive idea would be to build a multi purpose tunnel from where the turnpike tolls are to feed the cars in and build it UNDER Liberty State Park. They can create an elevator for pedestrians to access it while at the park. On the NYC side another elevator would be at the West Side Bike Path and the cars would empty onto the west side highway. It would of course needed to be widened and land taken, but that still takes up less space then a vehicular bridge.

What about just making a 50 foot tall pedestrian bridge that allows small ship traffic underneath it at all times. At designated times it could open up for larger ships. That seems like an easier and less costly idea.

The idea of a pedestrian tunnel is a great idea because a new bridge would be 200 feet high for ship traffice to clear it. We'd all enter practically at the Heights or the Beacon to be at a level with it when it crossed the river. The bridge would interupt the open skyline view for all the high priced condos on the waterfront and west. A pedestrian tunnel would be great to use or let people walk through the lincoln tunnel and holland tunnel to leave NYC in times of emergency. On 9/11 to my knowledge only emergency vehicles used the tunnel. With 3 tunnels for the Lincoln, one could have been used to people evacuate. But then what do you do for security? Seach hundreds of thousands as they enter to make sure they do not have explosives? The homeless people, smell, lack of air-conditioning are not real problems. It is the year 2007 we can have air-conditioning and clean well lit tunnel with decent security under the Hudson. It just won't happen anytime soon. Any new tunnel project propossed for the Hudson River should include pedestrian access. The more options for people to enter and exit NYC/NJ the better. The more roadways means more cars...more pollution and congestion. Why not offer more alternatives.

I would think there should be a rule stating that parking spaces are for vehicles and not storage. So if that is not in any deed or bylaws you have then you might be ok...Although are the common charges you pay in conjuction with the parking area? Common areas are generally for everyone in the building and not personal storage areas. But I do not know your full situation and rules and regulations to answer correctly...just thoughts.

Unbelievable, the 99s will get slower

The 99s and 10 bus lines which currently use palisade ave are now going to use central ave instead. that bus line is slow and infrequent already. Having that bus on central will make the trip another 10-20 minutes longer. Not to mention they will now honor nj transit bus passes for local trips but not trips to nyc. I wonder with more local stops and people on the bus make red and tan shorten the scheduled 30 minute schedule to 15 by adding more buses.

I did not look at the ad to confirm they updated it to Fantastic Four, but there is a moving advertisement between 14th and 23rd Street on the 33rd St bound train that is basically a huge backlit flipbook. Here is a link about the company that does it.

I purchased a Dahon bike and have had it for a few weeks now. i am very pleased with it. I take a fast ride down the hill and head to Hoboken and am there in 5 minutes. My total commute now compared to the one with the bus is 10-20 minutes faster. The best part is not having to sit or stand in an overcrowded bus or waiting and wondering if the bus is even going to show up let along leave on time.

Folding bicycles

I know the weather is starting to get colder, but I was thinking of getting a folding bike to commute to work in the city. I am in the Heights and figure I can ride to Journal Square or Hoboken to catch the PATH and then start riding again once in Manhattan to get to work. Reading the info on the internet it is a toss up. Half the people swear by the Bromptons and others Dahon. The Dahon has the bigger 20 inch tires which might make the ride more comfortable. Both bikes claim to fold small enough to sneak into a unfriendly bike building. Dahon website mentioned a dealer bike shop in Hoboken on Washington near 12th street. I plan to stop there just to get a feel for the bikes. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

There are several NJ Transit buses that cross the GWB. They all stop at the GWB bus terminal.

Having buses go through the Holland Tunnel would be a traffic nightmare right now. There would need to be a major overhaul of the traffic patterns and idealy another tunnel. The bus lane works at the Lincoln Tunnel because there are 6 lanes in 3 tunnels and a dedicated two mile lane for the busses to go filter into the Port Auhority bus terminal. Building a bus shelter outside the Holland Tunnel requires a location next to a subway stop. Having it at the new Fulton Station would work if there is again a desginated lane for buses only. Having only 4 lanes at the Holland Tunnel would leave one car lane depending on the morning or afternoon rush hour. All the outbound car traffic fitting into one lane is insane at rush hour with all the traffic lights leading up to the Holland Tunnel on both sides. People do no respect the red lights now and block the box causing delays.

I don't know James Rebhorn by name, but after looking at the link Newsboy gave I would know his face if I saw him. The Game which has been on Cinemax lately. He is a good character actor. Most people would recognize him from Meet the Parents. He also played the dean in Scent of a Woman.

New York City has plenty of CCTV cameras, but when a crime is commited in view any of the nearby privately owned cameras NYPD grabs the video or still image from the countless businesses that have cameras showing the outside front of their places. My 8 block walk to work in midtown from Port Authority I estimate I pass through 30-50 cameras depending on the route I walk. Those are not inlcuding the ones in the actual Port Authority bus terminal. But I do walk through Times Square which I bet actually has 50 cameras cameras. The building I work in I can count 7 cameras at least on the outside of the building that show the sidewalks.

Re: Why can't they just renovate Stop & Shop in the Heights

The new stop and shop building was going to be a larger store with more parking. I do not know if the new building would fit on the current lot Stop and Shop occupies. If it could fit there would be no parking which would be no good since it could not generate a profit. Also they could keep this current Stop and Shop open while the new store would be built. If they built on the current lot the store would have to close for a long time.

I like the idea of the new Stop and Shop but would prefer a school to be built there if it would prevent development of the reservoir. Since the city owns the reservoir it would be cheaper to build there then to spend $7 million on the empty lot next to the reservoir. I hope Jersey City politicians do not destory another part of Jersey City's history as well as unique landmark if a school is built on the current Reservoir site. The Resevoir will benefit the citizens of the city. If a school is built next to the Reservoir the students can get hands on learning for science classes.

Since land is getting expensive would it make sense to build more floors and start building up on the current land the schools occupy?
