JERSEY CITY -- A man was shot dead late Wednesday night, officials said.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office confirmed it was investigating the fatal shooting of a male at 21 Merseles Court.

Sources say at least one other person, a woman, was injured during the gunfire. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to a source.

The man who died was pronounced dead inside an apartment, sources said.

Additional information was not immediately available.

The death is expected to be ruled the sixth homicide in Jersey City this year and the eighth in Hudson County in 2018.

Lol @ Helicopters flying through JSQ only 10 stories high in the air and "a few feet from some buildings".

What are they playing chicken with the buildings at Summit Plaza before they swoop down on the students at Dickinson during their lunch break?

If the teachers strike and she goes to either Dickinson, Ferris, Lincoln or Snyder I would let her stay home that day. If she goes to Liberty or McNair she should be fine.

I was a student during the last strike the schools won't be able to hire enough substitutes to control the kids. All they will do is put all the students in Auditoriums, Gyms and Cafeterias and the kids will quickly realize they run the show until this strike is over.

7.3/10 on IMDB is about right.

Certain things bothered me too. Like Lexington Ave saying Lexington St on the Street sign. The cops saying the projects on "Dale ave" when it's "Dales ave" and a real detective would just refered to it as Marion. They also mention a fictional projects named Riverside Projects which I didn't see the need for if they name real streets and areas for everything else.

I get why they chose Liberty State Park for the scene because of the Statue of Liberty but they should have gave better reasons the kid was biking through there and the cop was driving through.

I found interesting the idea of the gang leader being in a wheelchair it made me think of a gang member from JC killed 5 years ago. The actor playing him is from JC also.

Overall I still really liked it and wonder what season 2 will be based on since in the articles I read claim the next season they already know what it will be about and it won't be centered around the crash in season 1.

Finished binge watching it. I really liked it, while it may not of been in JC I liked that they at least used shots of JC before and in between scenes even if they weren't in the real locations. Was also interesting seeing someone I went to high school with acting in the series knowing his real personality is nothing like his character he played.

Look forward to season two.

If you think the protest alone are disturbing the neighborhood you haven't seen nothing yet. The teacher strike 20 years ago was pretty bad. I wish I could find old video footage of the news reports at the time, this article doesn't cover it as well as the reporters on the scene did back then and actually makes it sound less chaotic. Hopefully history doesn't repeat it self.

3 stabbed after fight inside mall department store: cops

The Jersey Journal

JERSEY CITY -- Three men were stabbed during a fight at Newport Mall on Saturday night, officials said.

All three victims suffered injuries that were not considered life threatening after the 6:30 p.m. attack, city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said in a statement.

A 20-year-old man suffered the most serious injuries and was stabbed multiple times. A 21-year-old was treated for stabbed wounds to his hands and a third victim refused medical attention. The 21-year-old was uncooperative with police, she added.

The incident appears to have been the result of a fight inside JC Penny that escalated into stabbings.

NBC New York reported the incident occurred on the first level of the store in the bedding department. Blood stains could be seen on the white floor and fixtures were out of place.

"I seen the cops running towards the store but everyone split up," Alquan Eddy told the station.

A spokesperson for JC Penny did not immediately return a request for comment. No arrests have been announced in connection with the fight.

The mall is no stranger to melees. In 2016, the mall's Easter Bunny was caught on camera fighting with a disgruntled parent. Then at Christmas time the same year a fight broke out around the Santa display.

Two people were stabbed Saturday night around a Jersey City mall, authorities said.

The victims, described as young adults, were wounded "in or around the area of the Newport Centre mall," according to Jersey City Public Safety Press Secretary Kim Wallace-Scalcione.

Both of the victims were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center with what Wallace-Scalcione described as non-life threatening injuries.

The incident was first reported around 7:30 p.m.

She said late Saturday police were continuing to investigate what sparked the incident.

The mall is located not far from Jersey City's waterfront.

Further information was expected from police Sunday.

I know it's likely they are still in custody so it might not be them but with bail reform who knows, but is it just me or does the last two mugshots in this article look like at least two of the three guys in the video?

The one with the big nose looks like the first guy that rings the doorbell and the one with the fat neck looks like he could be the only one not wearing sunglasses that keeps looking in the camera.

Thousands in cash, jewelry stolen in 2 Jersey City burglaries: police

By Ron Zeitlinger
The Jersey Journal

A Downtown Jersey City man discovered that home was robbed of roughly $9,000 in cash and jewelry after he noticed unusual charges on his debit card, a police report said.

Police responded to the man's River Drive South home early on Feb. 8 and were told that the man noticed the unusual activity on his cards on Feb. 3. Over the course of the next four days he realized that jewelry and cash were missing, police were told.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Also this week, more than $5,000 in jewelry was stolen from an apartment in the Heights neighborhood, police said. The investigation into the incident on Manhattan Avenue between Summit and Montrose avenues is still under investigation.

The two burglaries are not considered related.

Cousins injured in Jersey City shooting, authorities say

The Jersey Journal

A pair of cousins were injured in a shooting Wednesday night in Jersey City's Journal Square, authorities said.

Jersey City police responded to the area of Sip and Summit avenues around 11:30 p.m. and found a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his right hand, city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.

The victim, who was uncooperative with police, was taken to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment for the injury, which did not appear to be life-threatening, Wallace-Scalcione said.

Shortly after the 20-year-old was brought to the hospital, his cousin arrived at JCMC with a graze wound to his left hand, which he suffered in the same incident. The 24-year-old had fled the scene in Journal Square before police got there, Wallace-Scalcione said.

However, when police interviewed the second victim, he gave them a false location for the incident. Police determined the man had also been shot in the buttock in November and was uncooperative with authorities investigating that incident, Wallace-Scalcione added.

Similarly, he fled the scene of the November shooting and later surfaced as a local hospital for treatment, the spokeswoman said.

RLS is only breaking news for the most part so I think when it comes to shootings it's a mix of overheard police scanner conversations and police giving them bits of info. So I can easily see RLS hearing "we found a crime scene over by the old Burger King parking lot" and assuming it is a place still in business.

Someone else has a map of Jersey City shootings so far this year and has been pretty good with adding them to the map before articles get released. When you click on the JSQ shooting icon and then click the address that pops up, his info states the victim was shot in the hand and walked into the Dunkin Donuts near that location. So it's possible the location is correct of the crime scene even if the Burger King isn't still around.

JERSEY CITY - An 18-year-old man was lured out of his family's apartment and shot to death Monday night, according to his uncle.

Angel Cruz was watching his three young cousins inside their Rose Avenue apartment with his girlfriend when he received a call around 9:30 p.m. from a "friend" asking for a cup of water, his uncle Raul Martinez said.

Three of the five shots fired struck the 18-year-old and he collapsed inside the hallway of the multi-family home. He died at Jersey City Medical Center early this morning, he said.

Officials have only confirmed they are investigating a fatal shooting on the block.

The victim's uncle said the suspect -- who is also a teenager -- slowly walked from the scene to disguise himself. A security camera outside the home captured the entire shooting, he said.

"That's the problem," Martinez said, as he looked for bullet holes outside of his house. "It's kids killing kids."

Cruz's girlfriend called police after the shooting and then called his uncle. Martinez was packing up a cart at Walgreens when he learned his nephew was gunned down.

Martinez said blood stained the hallway inside the two-story home, while blood could still be seen on the sidewalk outside the building more than 12 hours after the fatal shooting.

While the teen did not live at the home with his uncle, he came over for dinner a few nights a week.

The Jersey City Public Schools confirmed Cruz was enrolled as a student at Lincoln High School. The district declined to comment any further.

The section of Jersey City is considered one of the most violent. Last month a 28-year-old father was killed and three others were injured in a shooting just two blocks away.

Additional information was not immediately available. It is the second murder in Jersey City this year.

Teens charged in apartment shooting that injured 11-year-old boy

JERSEY CITY -- A pair of teenagers have been charged for their alleged roles in an accidental shooting that left an 11-year-old boy injured, officials said.

The teens were playing with a handgun inside a Marion Gardens apartment on Sunday afternoon when it "accidentally discharged," city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.

A 15-year-old boy was charged with reckless aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a gun, while a 14-year-old boy was charged with obstruction and tampering with evidence, Wallace-Scalcione said.

Sources say the teens tried to cover up the incident and said a bullet was fired from outside the building.

The 11-year-old boy was brought to Jersey City Medical Center after the shooting with injuries described by sources as serious. Scalcione-Wallace said he is now in stable condition.

The boy has since been transferred to Hackensack University Medical Center -- which has a children's hospital -- for continued treatment. Photos show a helicopter landed at a nearby field to transport the boy around 6 p.m. Sunday night.

Adults were present inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, Wallace-Scalcione said. The teens charged in the shooting were released to their parents.

No charges have been announced against the adults who were inside the apartment. It's unclear who the weapon belonged to or how the children gained access to the gun.

If no one was hit it isn't uncommon at all for it not to make the news. Most shootings without a gunshot victim don't get covered.

If they really meant 8 people were shot I would have a hard time believing that also.
