Re: What Jersey City Restaurant Do You Miss the Most?

Actually...after I wrote my post a few weeks back I decided to go back to Hard Grove for takeout (I still dream of their Lemon Salsa Chicken!!!) and noticed that Celia still does hang on the wall...above where the window into the kitchen was. I must say, the Lemon Salsa chicken was as heavenly as ever, portion size was the same and they've added a little decoration to the dish with a red pepper slice and a long plantain chip garnish.

Still tasty!!

I forgot to notice if the catfish fritters were still on the menu, but I will be going back for more

LOL sure thomash844 easy for you to say. Whats even better is when people say to go for it when they dont live in the area. All I have to say is you'll probebly be much happier in another place. having to be constantly paranoid is no way to live.

To be honest, I could care less if she buys there or not, I just thought it was a funny response.

But I also say don't be afraid to buy somewhere you think you're going to stick out like a sore thumb. You have a right to purchase wherever you want, and maybe you should give others a little more credit. It's not like you're moving to a favela in Brazil.

Yeah, I even miss that teeny tiny nasty bathroom too. I especially miss going there on Easter Sunday when they had the grass and all the farm animals. Or the Christmas tree with the misfit toys hanging all over.

The last remnant of the old hard grove was the painting of Celia Cruz, and they even took that down. My kids were really saddened by that.

Nothing gold can stay.

YES! The animals on Easter. Dominic Santana did some great things---I saw him at Hard Grove just the other day as I walked by. Does he still have a hand in the operation? Is he still owner? And most importantly...does LISA still work there?!?

And to hear that they took down Celia Cruz painting is upsetting. Now it's just so generic in there. They could have made kitschy Cuban work for the upscale if they wanted to.

The "old" Hard Grove...does anyone remember going in there late on any given night and there was mist pouring from smoke machines, tables were pushed aside, lights were flashing and the music (sometimes just "hot 97" radio) was LOUD?

This was back when there was a big controversy about allowing dance b/c it did not have a "Club" license, etc. 1999?

I miss that...even their old stinky, crappy bathroom.

I am trying to get a "Certificate of No Effect" to begin work on the facade of my building, but was told that I need to get a "1938 Tax Assessors Photo." Problem is, I forgot to ask at which city office (or Library?) would I find it? Does anyone have any experience or know where to find this?

Thanks...

I'm sorry I did not read each post in detail but I saw the topic and wanted to respond and say that I have a 750 sqft. apartment and just installed a Mitsubishi "Mr. Slim" mini-split ductless system. I cannot tell you how much I love it and how it TOTALLY ROCKS!!! It's completely quiet, cheaper to run than window units or central air...plus it heats in the winter too.

The indoor units are getting a wee bit smaller and better looking, but honestly to me they look so much better than ductwork. The outdoor condenser is quiet as well. The comfort this system provides is INCREDIBLE....heat, AC, dehumidifying, etc.

I am lucky enough to have a brother-in-law who is an HVAC guy--- he did the work completely for free. I paid $3000 for two indoor units plus the condenser. My bro-in-law told me the work to put it in would have been about $7K.

Not cheap at first but totally WORTH IT in the long run!!!!!

I think it is interesting how this post, the one about Wayne street, and some others in Crime and Safety are all posted by brand new jclisters with 1 or 2 posts. Is it the incident that drives them to the site? Or are these Hoboken Realtors?

I've noticed this as well...and most focus on downtown/VVP area. I smell a rat.

BTW, Hoboken has tons of rats.

Funny this thread came up as I JUST saw him this past Wednesday (MArch 28th) on the PATH from WTC to Grove. I believe it was at about 7pm but I don't remember exactly.

His Fuzziness was all in green (for Spring, I guess).

THE BEST dentist in JC is Dr. Spiro Papadatos, on the corner of Monmouth and Bright near Pathmark...I LOVE THAT MAN and go "out of network" to see him (even though I pay more) because it's worth it. He is very honest, thorough, careful and generally just a nice, nice guy who knows what he's doing....very good to the community as well. (See?)

Wow...she managed to put us all very neatly into our own box.

I couldn't help but chuckle when I read "They seem to reluctantly clutch their Dunkin Donuts coffee, resenting it for not being Starbucks or another fancy brand..."

Ummmmm....no!
