I have curly hair and went to Kitty @ Tousled. First visit, good cut/ nice color. Second visit, she literally chopped the sides of my hair giving me a combo of a mullet and Joan Jett 80's jagged shaggy cut when straightened. REALLY great look... Never Again! The owner tried fixing but really, how can you fix a mullet???

From what I've seen during my appointments, Lulu is the goto for an ombr?. She knows what she is doing.

Maybe the glare off the giant shiny Chinese letters distracted you from reading the new "Thai-Chinese" awning

I just noticed the new signage above Sawadee last night. I know that the guy that manages BOX also does Sawadee, so apparently he's on some sort of rebranding kick. Correct me if I'm wrong, but those appear to be giant Chinese characters - above a Thai restaurant. Now, I understand that if this was Chinatown, this might make some form of sense, but really? Would it not have been more effective to use Thai characters to promote their sub-par "thai cuisine"?

I would if I had the time but I will not make it home from work in time to get up there. I thought it was worth a shot to ask our neighbors if they had extras that they were willing to sell. Thanks for asking!

Do you ever feel a sense of entitlement, say after the sun goes down, while you are "protecting your neighbors" by allowing your old decrepit dogs to run off leash in the park wherever and however they like? Hypocritical awareness is not your strong suit...

Kannekt is a good resource for retail and services in JC downtown and the area. I wouldn't put too much trust in the reviews ... as negative ones are typically deleted by the business owners.

General admittance is based on a consensus of PSAT scores, academic performance from the 6th through 8th grades, extracurricular activities, and teacher recommendations. There is no requirement re: online posting and the annual dues are $25, prorated if you join later in the year.

Not surprised the policy has changed since But FOR THE RECORD ...

As stated in our guidelines, those members who do not

removed as they are considered inactive.

[This is a meetup group. All members must be active. Being active means attending at least one event every thirty days as well as occasionally posting to the message board. Note that simply posting on the message board does not count towards keeping your membership active - attendance is required.]

We hope you enjoyed being a part of Jersey City moms and wish

There is a Jersey City Mom's meetup group that meets regularly. If you search on Meetup.com you will be able to find it. The annual dues will run you $25-$30 to be part of this meetup.

NOTE: MAKE SURE she is ultra serious and committed to meeting up several times a month and making suggestions/comments on the meetup board every month. If for any 30-DAY period she does not adhere to this strict guideline she will immediately be booted off the meetup group without warning or chance to explain her circumstances on why she has been inactive. Her annual dues will not be refunded.

PARENTING IN HOBOKEN VS. JERSEY CITY
#50
Just can't stay away

I found this "article" funny...

Link to article

OK EVERYONE.. SO CLOSE, YET SO DIFFERENT: PARENTING IN HOBOKEN VS. JERSEY CITY

Kathy Zucker frequently takes the Light Rail to Jersey City with her kids. Newport Mall, Morton Williams and Liberty Science Center are a few of the many attractions there.
I've been spending a lot of time in Jersey City lately. My daughter's best friend lives in the Paulus Hook area, and we often walk to the downtown Newport section. We love the well-stocked Asian food section at Morton Williams, and Newport Mall is a fun place to visit on snowy or incredibly hot days. The kids and I pick up our free monthly Godiva chocolate, share an organic frozen yogurt, visit the puppies at the pet store and finish up at the kid section of Kohls before taking the Light Rail back home.
When we were considering options to find more space for our growing family, we compiled two lists. The first included suburban towns, the second included urban areas along the Hudson River, ensuring easy access into Manhattan.
Jersey City was definitely one of the top contenders for nearby urban locales.
We ruled out Jersey City early in our search for several reasons. We preferred the public school options in the Mile Square. As far as private schools are concerned, tuition is higher in Jersey City (Catholic schools charge twice as much). Compared to walkable Hoboken, getting around in Jersey City is much harder without a car. Some of our friends with kids who live in Jersey City come to Hoboken for the wide variety of classes and programs for children.
Toddler art, music, yoga, ballet, puppet shows, swimming, soccer and gymnastics classes abound in Hoboken, many with a drop-in option at a slightly higher fee so we don't have to commit to 16 weeks of classes. In the fall, my daughter will attend free Abbott pre-k a few blocks away from our home while my son visits the daycare downstairs from our condo a couple of mornings a week for socialization, music and yoga classes.
We have a some good friends who love living in Jersey City. Newport/Pavonia is full of sleek, upscale homes very near corporate centers for JP Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, and the Paulus Hook area is historical and picturesque, with incredible waterfront views for homes along Liberty Landing Marina.
And as much as we enjoy our friends in Jersey City, Hoboken has proven to be the place where we want to raise our family, send our children to school and walk from the Light Rail Station to our apartment?no car needed.

Slacky, you are sort of right even by the narrowest of margins. As of 2009 numbers, there was only 1 man making $164,775 and 9 men making $155,172....

I had dinner here Friday night... We arrived just before 7:30 and there was about a 30 minute wait for the hibachi for a party of 4. Sat at the bar and had some drinks (highly recommend the Dragon Bite!!) before dinner. The food was fantastic. Service was a bit slow at times - usually a bit of a wait for a new drink. BUT, I noticed the same thing on my receipt - the "Rounding Fee". I called and asked about it... According to the gentleman I spoke with, their computer system isn't recognizing pennies. He said if it's 1 or 2, it rounds down, 3 or 4 rounds up. Okay, but my bill ended in 2 and it rounded up? He said they have someone coming in on Tuesday (5/11) to take a look at it and fix it. He was apologetic so I want to believe him but I'm curious if this will continue to happen?

Really, you actually called inquiring about 3 cents? People who are worried about < nickle should not allowed to go out to dinner and enjoy themselves.

That's my 2 cents...

Heights,

So we should continue with the disproportionate payment instead of true market value? I am tired of being penalized because I have made improvements to my home and was reassessed at the top of the market while similar homes a few doors down pay a fraction of taxes. I am talking about 60% LESS in taxes. That my friend is not fair! This makes me happy!

Toomas:

We used Anthony & Son's three summers ago. We had them create a fence and gate that was a continuation of an existing fence, installed a back door and also had a perimeter installed around the tree beds.

We were very happy with his work and price! The only negative was he worked on multiple jobs at the same time so he would start and stop and come back a few days later. Now, it was a better economy then and he may have been much busier... I would definitely give him a call.

I will PM you my address if you want to check out his work.

I think Parkside Bistro can be a great addition to the neighborhood. It is a convenient go-to spot especially for take-out and also for quick dining in.

However, I urge the owner and chef to taste their food! Some of their dishes are seriously lacking in the flavor department. I have tried mostly the Italian dishes. I want to like this place so bad! I just wish the dishes weren't so bland... This seems like an easy problem to fix.

Good Luck!
