Honest mistake. I meant no personal offense to you when I talked about not visiting here any more. Its mainly the agenda-driven posts by Fulop operative plainslice (and all of his other fake usernames) and Fulop BFF Althea (joking!) that grow really tiresome day after day.

I'm probably voting for Fulop too. But this Dan bashing is so contrived and orchestrated its making Fulop look petty.

Since when does Dan or anyone work for you? He's a private citizen who gives his free time to work on a lot of issues to help this city. On the other hand, I remember that Dan turned onejerseycity.org into a valuable information resource with multiple postings daily for weeks after Sandy for victims of the flooding like me, and others throughout the city.
In fact, I think moobycows honest mistake in thinking Dan had some role in the city government SPEAKS VOLUMES about how involved Dan has been for decades.

As he has in the past, I see Dan working on excellent initiatives with the other Council members and Mayor Fulop.
On the other hand, if Fulop can't get past his ego to work with a veteran community activist like Dan Levin, then Fulop needs to put JC first and not himself. I think they will both work together and the products of their collaboration will be strong, well-thought-out legislation.

You won't get good policies from Fulop at Mayor and a bunch of "yes-men" on the Council.

And plainslice, are you or are you not a paid member of Fulop's campaign team? Not that a fact like that should stop you from posting but at least put the fact in your signature.

quote from article:

?Obviously, you can?t lift a 130 year old brownstone up out of the flood hazard area. We fear these new rules are anti-urban,? he writes in an email to JCI. That?s true of new buildings ready to break ground, stalling development and halting jobs while the city planners work to accommodate the new requirements which will see the first floor raised at least five feet above the sidewalk level. This will be ?devastating to the street life of the city,? he says, noting how it could hurt street-level businesses.

Are new developments really going to do this??

That quote is an obscene amount of money, for a "temporary" bridge which has no suspension engineering at all. The road is coming in maybe 2 years tops.

Why not just fill in a pathway using rocks/dirt from nearby excavation projects?? create an earthen path, then just add an asphalt or rock path on top of it with fencing??

The canal is used for nothing in that section and will most likely be filled in anyway.

Jcdweller and Jsleeze, are you suggesting that if Dan Levin got a seat on the Council he would not promote good reform but would just rubber stamp everything the Mayor wants, whether the Mayor is Healy or Fulop?
If you are, then that would be the only "sadly, hysterical" premise on this forum discussion.
I think Fulop didn't add Dan to his slate simply because he knew Dan would not be a "rubber stamp" for everything Fulop, or any other Mayor proposes, and Fulop can't handle that, which is also "sadly, hysterical" on Fulops part.
If there's any other reason Dan is not on Fulops slate, I'd like to hear it from Fulop. And the "they don't get along" argument is BS, since Dan is can work with anyone on efforts that would improve JC, including Healy. That has been proven over the last decade.

We need a new bridge to get there, or the old one fixed. This bridge is important for people in Lafayette to get to downtown JC and back. Its not just a cute bridge for people to get to the park. I use it for commuting to work every day.
At least open up some pathway along the turnpike from Jersey or Grand to Johnston.
Put a temporary pontoon bridge there at least for now.

Hmmm, false dichotomy (trichotomy?) anyone?
Anyway, hey maybe he is not on the exhaulted moral highground here in recent statements about Healy. Maybe he is not a Saint.
But he is far from dumb. And he is certainly one of the most moral people I have ever met.

But since you are only voting for perfectly moral saints this election, you will be staying home so what does it matter?

Just because people will vote for Dan, does not mean they will vote for Healy. It is up to Ward E people to decide who they want for their Council Rep. Its up to the voters of JC to decide who they want for their Mayor. There is no linkage in any thinking voter's mind that is following the issues.

I'm just going to ignore first posters here either way. They just appear to me like brainless minions hired to sign up to various websites and trash anyone not blessed by Lord Fulop. It takes more than one reformer to get things done.

The choice is Dan Levin:
a parent-teacher-partnership board member,
campaigned on behalf of Parents for Progress? candidates in last April?s Board of Education election,
15 years of service working with various community groups,
past president of the Harsimus Cove Association (fought for your community space around Grove PATH),

co-founded Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy,
co-founded Bike JC,

I for one, can't wait to vote for both Levin and Fulop! I will party like its 1999 if they both get elected. Not sure about who else I will vote for Council-wise, but no question that Levin has earned my vote over the last decade as a civic activist, and a level-headed thinker.

Why not the 33rd line? Wouldn't that serve a lot more people?
There's nothing physically stopping them from extending the 33rd line to Newark from JSQ and then onto EWR is there?

It's exciting to see this area change, but I think the thing that might stop it from becoming the next "place-to-be" I guess, is that barren divide between downtown and here, where the turnpike cuts through. The neighborhoods are physically divided. Unless they tear out that section of turnpike (never going to happen) I'm not sure I see bergen-lafayette "redeveloping." I don't know if how I wrote this made sense...

thoughts?

This makes a lot of sense and I've thought the same thing for years. This is why I'm really hopeful that the new Jersey Ave bridge over the canal will become the de-facto "gateway" to the Lafayette area from downtown.

No idea about this rumor, but this wouldn't bother me if it happened. I would just vote for Levin for the council seat, then consider my choices for mayor. There is nothing forcing anyone to vote for both Healy and Levin. But this will probably get lots of zombie votes for Dan.
Seems to be a similar technique that Rolando used to get on the Council.
Dan might even find a few goals that he could align with Healy on, and for the rest, they will just part ways when its time to vote.

This is a reasonable solution to a big problem wrecking the present and future JC. I would have tied it to with a mile radius of the project, not just the same ward. And I would have added a window of time that they would have to be built.
Even if this passes though, who will enforce it? Enforcement of urban planning regulations in this city seem a bit . . . uh, lax.

Another recommendation for Royal Heating and Cooling. I thought Chris was great and his father very honest and down to earth. They found major problems caused by the original installation being done wrong.
I like contractors that tell me when they find problems related or unrelated to the original job. I don't want them to just cover them up or be silent about them so they can just get out of there.

When they had problems getting the right part from GPS, they finally replaced the whole condensor without adding anything to the bill.

Great family owned business.

After using rags to apply stain to floors, you have to store them in water, or they will spontaneously combust. It only takes hours for them to generate enough heat to combust, not days.
I have personal experience with this phenomenon. Its scary.

Did you list your apt. in the NY metro area craigslist as well as northern NJ? Last month I listed ours in the NYC metro area CR alone.

http://nyc.craigslist.org/

We had 10 people emailing about our apt. in 5 days.
Pictures are really important.
I think the demand is very high right now for apts listed by owner with no agent fee. One applicant was even willing to pay for June even though he could not move in until July 1st.

Take a look at multi-families near the Liberty State Park light rail when you visit Saturday. Some single family's are going for $99K here. The walk to Grove St. PATH is 25 minutes. But the light rail runs frequently and will take you to a bunch of PATH stations like Newport and Exchange Place, as well as Hoboken rail and ferry terminal.
