I can't believe I am saying this but we will be soon starting to look back on the good old Healy days (hic) when corruption was in brown paper bags and not so sophisticated.

If you are suggesting that downtown is built out because there is a rush of new residents taking advantage of the state funded FREE pre K that won't fly. Maybe they should pay their way instead. Families will not live in a SRO (did not think these met zoning regs.)

Now as to how this happened. How about asking the former Councilman for 8 years for starters. You can also ask Council President Lavarro who has been on the JCRA board for a while. The executive director is an employee. All actions were approved by the board and redevelopment plans by the city council. How about holding your former council person accountable (for a change.)

Honestly, I do not give a sh-t about this problem. If the executive director should go, so be it. Fulop is the mayor, but don't fill the position. Fulop said one of his deputy directors would work on development (to justify his high price tag.) He lied of course and hired a replacement for director of HEDC anyway. Now why can't his high paid deputy mayor do this job. What the f-ck will he do anyway?

Meanwhile, the school is already over crowded and is bussing 3 year olds to Bergen Lafayette because they can't take any more local children.

Jersey City Board of Education Candidates for Excellence = Parents for Progress = Steve Fulop

How the hell do you make like you are endorsing your own candidates that you recruited. Bunk.

No one will say why they are running? What will your candidate do to control spending? Fulop controls the board yet they still snuck through a tax increase based on false info. What will his new three candidates due?

You need to clean up and be honest about who you are then ask us to support you.

What will you do about out of control spending in the schools.

The pot calling the kettle black.

Once the redevelopmen authority puts the property into the private hands, the plans are approved by the city council, for all of those failures Fulop should take some responsibility himself. What a croc. He should also be specific if accusing someone of ethics violations. That said I'd be happy if he does not replace Antonicello and we could save the salary but that is a big if, since he will likely replace him with his own do nothing hack. Funny how a guy that looks like he works really hard surrounds himself with the usual suspects.

Jersey City mayor demands resignation of JCRA chief

By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal

Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop today demanded the resignation of the director of the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency, accusing the agency chief of making ?unethical and imprudent business decisions.?

In a terse letter to JCRA Executive Director Bob Antonicello, obtained this afternoon by The Jersey Journal, Fulop says Antonicello hasn?t submitted a financial disclosure form required of city directors; is responsible for the extended vacancy of a space in the Hub shopping center that used to house a bank; and executed a contract with an outside business without approval from the JCRA board of commissioners.

?Over the past few months, the new administration has observed you make unethical and imprudent business decisions that have entirely eroded our confidence in your ability to carry out the mission of the JCRA,? Fulop writes in the letter, dated today.

Why doesnt mayor select Osborne propose congestion pricing for Jersey City? They are doing everything else locally.

That will cut down on peak traffic and raise money for tax relief.

You are right Yvonne. The Council is clueless. We gave Fulop his Council in the hopes of cutting spending, but instead it is about unchecked spending. Replacing one set of idiots with another even worse.

Still no word on the property reval. I guess if he plays Bloomberg lite with stuff like this smoking ban he thinks we will forget about it all.

Banning e-cigarettes. Come on. We going to be the butt of late night tv again.

No. This council talked about the budget, not about smoking or even sick days during the campaign. Let them keep their campaign promises. It shouldn't be a member of the public (me) informing the council that the administration sent out the first half 2014 without council approval.

Exactly. Then if this bugs you so much why are you ok with the rest of the gang. McCann, Kenny, McKnight and who knows who else. Birds of a feather flock together. All of McGreedy's vendors and consultants are hitting town for the pickings. What about the contract that just went to Lesniak? One of the new hires in the Law Department could do the job and save us $$$$.

We are rid of Mayor Healy. The slate does not reset clean. Fulop should distance himself from the Mcknights, McCann and such. Hopefully the worst is all out on McGreevey so Jersey City is not tarnished. I don't think it can be worse then bid rig. Is it finished? I hope so. Threatening to sue news sources also sends real warning signs. I just pray he would stick to cleaning up Jersey City and cutting the budge. We can ill afford the Healy budget to become the new normal and all of the Healy cronies ending up back in city hall.

More from JC Independent.

http://www.jerseycityindependent.com/ ... d-jc1tv-do-over-and-more/

More garbage. I don't understand wasn't Mayor McCann helping Fulop in this past election. But he is a convicted felon, so I guess logical Fulop wanted to corner the market on crooks. At least Healy cleaned house. Is the only way to be a politician in Jersey City to hang with thieves?

McCann distributed to the council copies of a police report dated April 2008, in which city resident William Cortez stated that he and others were paid a total of $1,000 by someone from Fulop?s campaign to vote in several locations under several names in the 2005 election. Charges relating to the alleged fraud were never brought against Fulop or any other individual.

?I?m hoping that this type of activity doesn?t happen again,? McCann said. ?This is something that I think we need to root out of Jersey City.?

And more when Fulop threaten to sue the JC Independent and put them out of business: http://www.jerseycityindependent.com/ ... appeared-then-reappeared/

God I had hoped he would be tough but honest.

Do the property reval now!

I received this response from the RRC a week and a half after asking -

"Currently the city has suspended the tax reval until further notice it is the County figuring out how to proceed."

Most people I know need certainty. Isn't that the reason for tax abatements. It gives developes certainty.

Come on you don't actually have to believe everything a politician says. During the campaign the mayor would give a convoluted speech about how all Jersey City property values derive from a brownstone in Paulus Hook. Delusional.

We are talking about different markets, different demographics. Go have a drink.

Debatable for 2 reasons: downtown price falls will likely act as a drag on valuations elsewhere, and there's likely to be enough motivated sellers in every ward to drive prices down in the ward.

And perversely, even if what you predict happens, and other wards see a relative increase in valuation, then they would be under-assessed with a locked-in tax abatement until the next reval.

I don't think the consequences of the reval were considered. I'd like to see it happen, but planned a little better for the overall benefit of both the City and it's residents.

PS: Perhaps not popular with downtown, but is there any reason different wards in JC can't have different county equalization rates? That would probably keep assessed values closer to reality, and make the next reval much less painful.

This actually started under Healy when some of the crazy community members started to take a close look. Now lets hope Fulop can face off with the developer and collect.

Will this come off my next tax bill or be spent?

Quote:

Jersey City?s new mayor says the city recovered millions of dollars in years of uncollected taxes from a Jersey City developer.

Mayor Steve Fulop announced Monday recovering $2.3 million from a developer who failed to make payments to the city as part of a tax abatement agreement. According to Fulop, EQR Lincoln Urban Renewal Entity did not voluntarily turn over excess profits to the city that it agreed to in a July 2000 contract.

The mayor campaigned on a promise to audit all of the city?s tax abatement contracts to ensure the agreements were being enforced.

?What we are finding as we conduct these abatement audits is that the prior administration literally left millions of dollars on the table,? Fulop said in statement. ?These are tax dollars that could be used to put cops on the street, fund recreation programs, pave roads, or simply lower the amount of taxes paid by our residents. Failure to collect this money is unacceptable and we are going to hold these developers accountable.?....

Thats BS. I think it used to be called voodoo economics. So then cut everbodys taxes and everybodys value goes up. We are paying higher taxes so that you can protect downtown property values. Pay your way. Taxes are to fund services not to boost your home value.

Quote:

dtjcview wrote:
Brewster - property tax as it stands isn't applied fairly, and you're right - it should. But there is a point in Boris's post. The reval would pull the rug on a large number of downtown properties, wiping millions off overall property values. JC doesn't need that kind of self-inflicted "black swan" at this time.

I'd also argue that property tax is a pretty regressive and archaic form of taxation, that contributes to local government waste and inefficiency. I'd much rather pay for local services pretty much like my water bill - pay for use, with a flat rate for essential services.

No anti-Fulop, but I am against anyone who does not spend our taxes prudently. Fulop just rubbed salt in an open and festering wound. I foolishly believed him and his crap. My bad.

If city employees need a "smart" phone then spec it out and get three bids. Don't just buy the Cadillac of smart phones and the most expensive. JC Government is not some cutting edge tech company flush with hedge fund money or sleek design firm. The staff should be able to get by with any functional smart phone.

Don't try to be cool on my dime.

Although your anti-Fulop agenda is quite blatant, you should at least know that supplying work mobile phones for employees is standard practice in a growing number of private and public businesses throughout the country. If you are receiving work emails and conducting work-related activities on the go and at home, it is not unfair to have the employer provide the hardware. Also, iPhones are in no way more of a financial burden than blackberries when purchases at the corporate level.

So you know libel law now. Someone is concerned about abatements that Councilman Fulop railed against (except for the building he is now living in) and Mayor Fulop wants to look like he is on the side of the taxpayer but is waffling and creating a policy that looks like he doing something, but does little. The 30 years tax abatements have to stop.

People would be furious with 30 years abatements while their taxes are going up 3 times the due to revaluation. Bottom line, no mayor can stop a reval.
