I wasn't as angry as I am now:) You know..we just moved in - trying to be good tenants..bubble wrapping the place so we feel a bit like a FedEx package.
getting a heaters to prevent frostbites. It is electric air fan heater. One says 59 as temperature reached and the other is on 43 now. The air-conditioning is cranked up to 90 but it blows freakishly cold air so we keep it off. I am telling you (stiff upper lip and joking about it) but toilet is the worst. I could keep groceries in

Thank you! We read it and since we did not get any reply from management we contacted Health Dept.
Problem with that law is that it is applied to landlords who provide heat that is included in the bill. We pay our own heating - so landlord does not actually surlily the heat - but it does supply the appliances for the heat, which are - in this case - cold. As they shrugged shoulders when we asked it to be "cranked up" or ANYTHING really, we do not expect an action except - waiting for the spring. In a meantime, our heating bill may be a disaster.

We have renters insurance and we got those indoor oil heaters, yes.
We only run them when we are near. We do not even go to bathroom without plugging it from the wall. I have it now near my feet with nothing around and standing on couple of cookies - baking sheets. It is like camping indoors.

Good point. I still have not been outside but couple of my clients complained that downtown is absolutely frozen and there is no trace of salt on pavements.

Heat requirements for rented property

We are renting a beautiful property BUT the heaters are weak and windows drafty - I mean..seriously drafty.
We bubble wrapped windows, bought couple of oil heaters but even with that - our living area barely reaches 56 and bathroom and hallway 43. (Yes, we feel like outdoors). We asked the management to investigate but first time when checking on heathers - they shrugged shoulders and said "it is like everyone else's". First day we were here, we turned off heating during a night and our dog jumped in our bed couple of hours after heater was off (he is not allowed to) and we read the temperature of 36. We run heating all the time during a day and night now and we feel this is just not right. ? Any thoughts on that?

From Jersey City Homepage:
UPDATE 2013 12 18 7:57am: United Water is reporting problems with their low-pressure water system in the Downtown area with water service interruptions. Preliminary reports indicate the affected area is the Hoboken border south to Newark Avenue and Marin Boulevard west to Jersey Avenue. United Water crews are assessing the system now and will provide more information once available.

Question to renters

Question for all of you who rent a property.
When do you feel "home" after you move in a new place? Is that: time framed for you (days or weeks) or certain thing (hanging pictures or stuff)? I just realized, for me..it is when I'm ok with sitting in a bathtub finally and eating a bit of food that fell on the floor(that is after..2 weeks of frantic and constant scrubbing). My husband is an easier dude who is home where his pillow is. You?

Hi,
What would be the best, safest indoor heater? Which one is an economically good choice in a long run? Your opinion needed.. We want to get a but warmer but also keep the building safe. Thank you!

I am a weimaraner owner and absolutely agree with everything.
I do not know why it seems "optional" for some people to clean up after your dog? If one does not have a bag - return and pick it up later. Also, if your dog is good with other dogs - does not mean that other dog is ok. So, leash your dog and do not allow it to approach / bark and pulls towards other one. If you have a small dog - it is still a dog and requires exercise and rules. Just because it is cuddly, does not entitle it to bark, growl and snap on the lead. You are the owner and if you can not handle training it - let someone else do that for you or..get a cat. I know it sounds harsh but we trained our animal and do it every day of our lives...so he would not annoy with barking, psychotic pulling and behaviour (it gives a dog owner a bad name). It is a responsibility. Clean, train, follow the rules and remember - it is an animal. Nomatter if it wears a jacket, shoes or bells around neck, it will eat rubbish and poop nomatter how fluffy it is ..it has instincts and the owner should have brains and willpower. Keep it away from children playground. Get walking, running and training. Your animal will love it and other people will not roll their eyes. And yes, dogs do not belong to stores and where food is eaten.
