Fingers crossed for BBQ! We had really good BBQ in Astoria before we moved here and it's something I miss terribly!

I'm wondering if your jerk is the same person who has run their red light, my green one, while I'm driving. It's happened several mornings in a row. I have no problem letting someone go, even when they don't have the right of way, but there's no way I can do that when I can't see them and they go speeding into the intersection. I'm terrified I'm going to hit one of them. And they look at me like I'm doing something wrong. I'm having panic attacks when it happens now.

I think we need more details about the break-ins. I used to live in Astoria and had this happen to my car. If this is happening here I will not be happy. Did they break a window or break the locks? And did you have stuff sitting out in the car that would attract someone to it? And has it happened to other cars on your street or just yours? I'm really sorry to hear about this and I know how much of an inconvenience this causes.

fundraising lunacy - If we need bike racks then the city should budget it and install them and not seek hand-outs.

next we'll have a funds raising campaign to fix pot-holes too.

We agree that governments should generally fund bike improvements, just as they fund roads and other transportation. The half-million-plus dollars JC is currently spending on bike lanes is a good example.

And for this MUCH smaller program, the city is contributing $16,000, and will also be installing the racks.

But by raising the remaining funds through a broad base of cycling, neighborhood, environmental and other community groups, we hope to do more than just add money to the pot. We have a chance to vote with our wallets, to show with every donation that cycling has a constituency -- something we can and will bring up in the future when we ask governments, sponsors, grant-making groups, et al to fund more improvements, change laws, and otherwise aid biking.

That's part of the appeal of all public-private-community partnerships.

(Next thing you know we'll be raising funds to find cures for diseases, or clean up Central Park, or buy uniforms for kids' sports teams, or ...)

OK, all you "lunatics" who love biking (or love having less air pollution, or lower carbon emissions, or safer streets, or less disease of inactivity ...): can you spare $20 bucks? $10? $5? Please put at least the cost of a fancy coffee in the online jar, put your name on our donors page, and show everyone we mean business.

Click here for more things to lock our bikes to that aren't trees.

I am not a biker and I was thinking about donating because I love my community so I believe in supporting it, until I read your last paragraph. I now feel judged and that you are taking shots at people who don't own bikes. Not exactly the way to gain support.

Do you know if the track at ferris is open most days? And any issues with safety there?

So I'm still trying to find a place to run. I'm looking for something near downtown as I want to do this when I get home from work at about 6 pm everyday and I don't want to have to drive anywhere (lose my parking spot on the street). I also only want to do a mile or two at a time, which for me to get to LSP would add a couple of extra miles to that. Any other suggestions??

Da fuk?
Go outside of your apt door turn right (or left) start running.
Theres your place to run.
There's a track at ferris if you want to keep your lap time.

Sorry, I had an earlier post where I said that I don't want to run on the street. I don't like having to avoid cars, bikes, people, strollers , etc. I really just want to put music on and zone out for a mile or two.

Ooh! Good to know! I hear ya on the boring but as long as it gets the job done I would be okay with it! I miss the running outside and miss the convenience of where I used to live. I'm also trying to lose weight (not much maybe 5lbs) and deal with some back issues so I know I need to get back to this. Thank you!

If there is a limited number of parking spots in your building that you would have to pay for, then you CAN get a permit to park on the street. My building has 40-something apartments with only 10 parking spots and they are $250 per month, so I had to show my lease to the parking authority that a parking spot was not readily available to me.

Where is that pool? The website doesn't have the address.

Just curious if people have suggestions for places to go swimming outside in the area? Just didn't want to have to drive far every weekend.

Never said it couldn't. Just updating the information.

Well the original post was about west side ave, which the link does represent. I could care less where people decide to live but I was trying to provide information.

Not sure about the exact area you are looking at, but I can tell you that we moved from Astoria to jersey city as well and found downtown to be the closest to what we left in terms of safety. We lived near the blvd in Astoria on a very house-lined street and it was a bit of an adjustment here. We live about half a mile from grove path station and the closer you get to home the fewer people that are around at night, which is just a little unnerving as a female. But I would recommend downtown if safety is a prime issue for you.

Been here twice now and it's great. The food is good and the wine/cocktails/beer are a nice selection.

Oh my god!!! Have been there a bunch of times already! Yogurt is awesome! Flavors are interesting and delicious. And many toppings, which are mostly the same as other places except the waffles! I haven't actually had a waffle yet because I'm trying to lose weight but the fact that they even offer such a thing is amazing and makes them better than your average yogurt place.

Just curious if anyone has used Lisa's dry cleaning? It's the closest one to me so I want to use them for convenience but I need to have suit pants dry cleaned for a job interview next week and I can't risk something happening to those pants.

i've thought about that too. i am in downtown jc and realized that i would probably have to drive to where i want to go, which is fine. i want convince more than anything and so if it's a quick drive plus good parking then it works. i'm worried about a gym being packed too. i'm wondering if the times that i am looking to go would also help me decide at this point. i'm currently out of work so i'm probably looking to go mid-morning/day.

does anyone have any info on the cheap gyms that are in the area here: retro fitness (west new york) or planet fitness (hoboken, bayonne, or north bergen)? i'm looking for an alternative to running outside in the winter, so basically just looking at using treadmills or ellipticals, and wanted to know how clean/safe any of those places seemed.

Best places to run near downtown?

I've only been living in jersey city for about 6 months and before I moved I used to run in a great park with trails. I'm wondering if anyone has some suggestions on good places to run near downtown jc. I'm sort of looking for the same thing. I like not running near traffic and I want it to be in a safe enough area that I can put in headphones and zone out. I usually only run about a mile or two. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
