Thanks everyone, i've decided to pass on this apartment for a few reasons:

I don't want to have to watch my back everywhere I go
I don't want to have to hide my phone or worry about getting robbed
I don't want to be scared to walk to the bodega at night to get some munchies
I don't want to deal with the longer commute to midtown
I want a walkable neighborhood with more stores and restaurants

Just move to the Heights already and be done with it. Low crime area but not much train access.

Much of the existing Light Rail was done on existing rights-of-way; starting from scratch in the middle of a city would be incredibly expensive, hence the common use of buses to serve that purpose.

I know that. Either way I still would like to see a new line one day for the inner sections of the county but it would cost billions to even get it done.

I'm asking so I'm clear of the plan. They want to extend it to Englewood with multiple stops along the way? Or is it one straight shot to the hospital?

For what you're asking them you would be right. Downtown ( everything east of RT 78) but it will be more money. You can find an apartment for that price but it will be harder to come by. If you would like something more affordable check the heights. Safe area but not many bars or restaurants of note.

And how is this not for NJ? Many people have bitched about how its always easier to get to JFK or Laguardia. Now its easier to get to EWR by train everyone bitches again. I would rather prefer this than another train to NYC so a couple of people can say they're like NYC now. To pay around $3 (After eventual fare raise) to get to the airport sounds good to me. And you all seem to forget JC has many bankers who travel along with many businesses in Newark and many people in the area who work at the airport.

In a few months I assume they will be here in Spring or beginning of Summer so why not the Statue of Liberty. You can show them its closer to JC than NYC. There is always the Loew's to catch a old movie and just chill. Hoboken as well if they want a night out at the club.

Its reason like this I wish the Embankment would get built and Hyman would just give up. I have had people come here as well and all think the city is nice but is just boring. took them to a a festival downtown but Exchange Pl and they found it to be corny. This city needs to seriously up its entertainment options. There are small towns with more things to do.

Jersey City Wants to Transform Loew's Into Concert Venue

Officials are Seeking Operator That Could Attract National Music Acts

The Wall Street Journal
Feb. 2, 2014

Jersey City is moving forward with turning the historic Loew's Jersey Theatre into a concert venue.

Officials are seeking an operator that could help attract national music acts to the city-owned movie house as well as help reinvigorate the surrounding Journal Square neighborhood, which has seen far less development than the city's eastern sections.

The city would engage in a profit-sharing agreement with a management company, said Mayor Steve Fulop.

Built in 1929, the ornate theater was set to be demolished in the 1980s but was saved through the efforts of a nonprofit organization, Friends of the Loew's. The group holds revival movie screenings at the theater, which seats 3,021 but isn't fully used because it needs safety upgrades.

The request for bids is set to be issued Monday and the deadline for submissions is March 19. A copy of the request viewed by The Wall Street Journal calls for the operator to book at least 20 music concerts, 10 theatrical productions, 10 comedy performances and 50 community and other types of events.

The Friends of the Loew's will be able to hold 20 performances, according to the document. The group had raised concerns last year over an outside firm taking over management of the Loew's.

New Marriott coming to JC

January 27, 2014 at 4:06 PM

A new 276-room Marriott hotel is coming to Jersey City, bringing more than 900 construction jobs and more than 150 permanent jobs to the state's second-largest city.

Construction on the project, announced Monday by city officials, will begin in the fourth quarter of this year and will be located in the Liberty North Harbor Redevelopment Area, near Liberty State Park and the Liberty Science Center. The 16-story, full-service hotel will operate under the flagship Marriott Hotels brand and is expected to be similar to the Marriott Marquis in Times Square.

SLHN, an affiliate of Tramz Hotels, is developing the building under a franchise agreement with Marriott International Inc., Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said in a news release........

For those who think this is a good idea, where do we put these new people? If you haven't notice traffic does not move in JC, especially downtown. I lived on Van Vorst Park, close to Jersey Avenue and sold after 40 years partially to the traffic congestion that I faced every day. Several days ago, I was on Jersey Avenue, near the Library, it took 10 minutes to travel 2 blocks. Unfortunately, it was around 3:00 PM when schools (there are 4 in that area) dismissed. Other parts of the city also have their jams but Jersey Ave, Newark Avenue, and other parts of downtown comes to a screeching halt. There is too much development in Jersey City.

Well obviously that is going to be congestion when you end up squeezing about 6 or 7 lanes of traffic into 2 for a tunnel. Whether you like it or not Yvonne this city will continue you grow. And around 3-5pm there will also be traffic jams as everyone is trying to go home. Past the rush hour traffic its not that bad unless there is construction going on. You really need to stop with this fear mongering.

You are right that traffic is becoming an issue, however, I am not downplaying it but it has not reached the extent that you keep exaggerating. But that is not to say we shouldn't plan for it but it seems your only plan is to apparently stop any new development. Instead this city should be focusing on improving our PT system by adding another LR line for the city, creating better bus routes, more bike lanes etc.

Well you get the money by bringing people into the city. If no one comes where do you think the money will come from? Downtown changed due to a huge influx of new residents.

The one thing I don't like about it is the whole "mid-sized" thing. Yes we are, I get it, but that just makes us sound like we're not too confident about being the best.

Re: Palisade Avenue - going downhill?

One thing that could help is changing the direction of the street to one way, along with Summit. Once changed could be wide enough to allow for better commercial spaces. Now I'm no planner but roads that allow for bigger vehicles, namely trucks. Walnut street is a one way street for about 2 or 3 miles and is one of the most prosperous streets in the US. Obviously Palisade won't become that popular but I am just referencing it since I know there will be someone who will argue it will be hurtful to businesses.

Also it could allow for a dedicated bake lane that would virtually cost the city very little.
