Spinello shifts positions on warehouse plan

Mary, Mary, Mary, where did you go wrong? Did the baby-faced representative of AMB just have a trusting face or did he whisper sweet nothings, full of promises there is no legal way the city can inforce him to keep, in your ear? Or did Healy and his "associates" promise you 50 pieces of silver in campaign contributions for selling out your constituents? Why is it that so many people outside of your district care more about its residents than you do?
In case my lamentations make no sense, you can read all about it in the Jersey Journal: Spinello shifts position on PJP landfill The JJ also has another article today about how much the residents doen't want this monstrosity built: Healy fails to sway residents

I love it, we have a mayor with the reasoning skills of a six year old. "But mooommmm, Jimmy's mom lets him divert city employees for his own political gain."

I have been told that there will be a community meeting to discuss the proposed warehouse tonight, Thursday, August 10, at 6:30 at Temple Beth El (2419 Kennedy Blvd.) and that Healy will be in attendance. It would be great to get a lot of turnout to show how much the public is opposed to this debacle.

And this is for a couple's (assuming there is a couple) combined income. The ratios of 28% and 24% (after October 1) were calculated assuming only one person working full time at a minimum wage job in NJ and living in the two bedroom $300 a month apartment. I never suggested that we do away with public housing. Van Vorst Park is already at capacity. My computations were merely to show that the amount of rent paid was low in proportion to what even one person would make working full time at a minimum wage job. If you have two people working full time minimum wage jobs (which you should, assuming that you have that two bedroom apartment, otherwise get a one bedroom) then the ratio is very low. That means you have more money for other things; how about taking classes for yourself or maybe saving for your kid's education. That's the only way you are going to get out of poverty.

Of course that's ONE person with a minimum wage job and for the TWO bedroom.

Yes, it is the same project. And I would rather have a public golf course there than a gigantic warehouse that according to the developer (and quoting the Jersey Journal not the developer) "won't improve traffic congestion - but won't make it unbearable either". Sorry, but when the developer pays for the study (even if it isn't directly) I've got to question its validity, especially when its impact is describe as not unbearable. The developer estimates 212 daily peak hour trips. Again the developer is estimating this so in actuality it's probably some number far in excess of this and that doesn't even factor in what it will do on weekend traffic in the area.
This whole thing reeks of insider dealings and is likely to have terrible results. Of course I could be totally wrong. After all, our illustrious mayor is in favor of it so that must mean that it is in the City's best interest and will benefit everyone in the long run.

EAS: what you are referring to is if you take a deduction for the depreciation of the house besause of the home office. This reduces your "basis" in the home so when you go to sell it you realize more capital gains. If you were only taking a deduction for a percentage (based on size of office vs. size of house) of your mortgage interest, property taxes, casualty losses, utilities, repairs, etc. then you wouldn't have this problem.
Of course I'm not a tax professional so I wouldn't try to do any of this myself. That's just asking for an audit.

A third (potential) issue is whether or not Epps used vacation time for his four day jaunt in London. I don't know the answer to this and I am not aware of any way that I as a private citizen could find out. If this trip was not related to his job as superintendent then any time spent there (on a weekday of course) should have been taken as vacation or personal days. If not he is being paid to take a vacation when he should have been working. On a side note: Quote: epitome wrote: This is the most absurd thing I have heard in a long time. I think it's a great idea but you're taking on some pretty heavy hitters here. After seeing all the "Verison cable tax" commercials, I find it hard to believe that the cable companies (probably Verison too since they offer DSL) are going to take this sitting down. Good luck.

Maybe because:
The top 50% of tax payers already pay over 96% of all income taxes; The top 5% of tax payers pay 53.8% of all income taxes; And the top 1% of tax payers pay 33.7% of all income taxes. See Also I've got a better idea, why don't we just institute a maximum wage, say 30K, anything you earn over that goes to bring everyone else up to that same level and once that's achieved the rest goes to the government in taxes. This way the unemployed high school dropout makes the same amount as the doctor who worked his a$$ off and racked up a fortune in debt to put his way through med school. We wouldn't want to hurt the poor flunky's self esteem by not leveling the playing field for him.

Don't forget that the 18% increase only refers to city taxes. This number does not include the increase in school taxs and the likely increase in county tax. Sucks to be a homeowner in a non-tax-abated property.

In our case the person selling the house had to do the removal. I don't remember offhand what company did it but I have the information at home. I had the tank inspected by ATS. Our situation involved a leaky tank, which we thankfully found out about before we closed on the property. Since the tank leaked they had to remove not only the tank but all of the contaminated soil too. The final bill for that, including the instillation of an above ground tank, was about $16,000. PM me with your contact info and I can send you a breakdown if you'd like.
Regardless of whether the tank is leaky or not I would have it entirely removed, rather than just filled, otherwise it will be a headache when you sell the house.

Funny, they don't seem to mention how much it will cost Jersey City residents when, after every time it rains, even more sewage starts bubbling up into their basements. With a sewage system that is already overloaded and new developments springing up all around, how pray tell is this a good deal for Jersey City? I guess it does help the current administration with a one time shot towards balancing this year's budget. . .
