So, I was driving west on Communipaw and making a left onto Rt. 440 to go Hudson Mall. The left-turn light went from yellow to red as I was going through the intersection. I'm always very cautious as a driver, but I'll admit to slightly miscalculating the length of that yellow light. The city lists the westbound approach of that intersection as one with a red-light camera. I didn't notice a camera mounted above the intersection, nor did I notice any flashing strobe when I made that turn. Does anyone know if the camera is actually operational? How long will it take for a ticket to be mailed? I was in a borrowed car, so I'd like to give the owner a heads-up, and of course, pay the fine. In addition to the fine, are there any points involved?

You will only be ticketed if the light was red as you passed over the white line. You will not receive a ticket if it was yellow and turned red before you left the intersection. The flash goes off on all of these cameras for no reason, so don't worry about it if you saw the flash.

There are no points associated with the tickets, just a fine.

Very nuanced response. Thanks for the contribution.

If the fact stands that fewer garbage cans results in more litter and garbage in our streets, can we just agree that it was a bad idea to remove them? What are you going to do about the human nature of fellow residents, legislate it?

In a poignant, powerful Public Information Statement this afternoon, the?National Weather Service in New Jersey?is begging that people heed warnings, and evacuate if they are asked to. They write,?"If you are reluctant [to evacuate], think about your loved ones, think about the emergency responders who will be unable to reach you when you make the panicked phone call to be rescued, think about the rescue/recovery teams who will rescue you if you are injured or recover your remains if you do not survive."

From Googleearth I am getting a max of about 11 ft above sea level with much Societal Hill below 6 ft. Irene was not a hurricane. She broke apart long before hitting us. The max surge was about 4 to 5 feet.

This storm is bad... I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to be wrong about it.. but the trends show otherwise. Unless Sandy takes a right turn, or the barometric pressure increases.. we are going to have one hell of a storm surge.

The barrier islands (Wildwood, Asbury Park, etc.) are already flooding.. and it's not high tide and the storm is still a long way off.

Oh yeah, Asbury Park, that famous barrier island.

"Sump pump", not "subpump". Gahhhh.

Alert for everyone: A&P still has plenty of bread! Stock up on as much as you can before the storm comes. They still had a few rolls of duct tape too, but no water except for 2-3 gallons of distilled water. I hope the people that bought the rest don't drink it... the accelerated cell osmosis would probably kill you.

Not true. My grandmother spent her final years in Florida and needed surgery after a window blew out in her face in '92. Tape actually does hold most of the pieces together. Why risk it? It takes less than a minute per window. You can find a million opinions for any topic on the internet. TAPE YOUR WINDOWS!

IMPORTANT!

Remember to tape up your windows if you're not going to board them up. A big X will prevent glass shards from flying through your apartment should the storm take a turn for the worse. Use duct tape or other durable tape... masking tape isn't strong enough.

Maybe they went out of business because of competition. I'm guessing the owners realized how many pizza places there are in Jersey City and gave up. I wonder if it will reopen as something else, but retail rents are really high so it might just stay closed.

I think the person probably got lazy and decided to take a short cut through the alley to save themselves half a block and probably ran into the type of person who would be hanging out in the alley for no reason. The police need to patrol the alleys more, they can be scary, even if you don't go in them.
