not like that new bakery on Jersey- Choc-O-Pain. Love the look of the place, but prices=SERIOUSLY? Are they aware of surroundings but choose to ignore? Not too late to change. JC is NOT NYC!

President Obama endorses Jersey City mayor's re-election bid

By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal
March 20, 2013 at 9:55 AM

In a surprise coup that is sure to help Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy in this Democratic stronghold, President Obama has endorsed Healy's bid for re-election, the Healy campaign announced today.

In a statement from the Healy camp, Obama called the mayor one of the "leading voices on urban sustainability and getting illegal guns off our street."
?To continue moving America forward, we need more leaders like my friend, Jerry Healy,? Obama said. ?He?s made Jersey City a vital engine for economic growth, innovation and opportunity."....

Just putting it out there since I trust nothing without seeing it with my own eyes- has anyone actually "seen" the endorsement? This does not seem unreasonable to ask- a citation from the JJ is not necessarily "truth". We are talking the president of the most powerful and influential country in the world, not a really a "local" politician. Remember- this new is coming from the campaign of a man who has more than one colleague in prison. Maybe worth a thought or maybe I'm the ignorant one here- please educate me.

Do any of these places (aside from Hoboken which might) pay anywhere near as much property tax/rent as DTJC? I think not! It doesn't seem unreasonable to expect we would have more options (restaurants and/or nightlife) considering this.

Funny thing is- pay the taxes and already without the govenment services!! (unfortunately) That's how it works in JC. Believe me- eager to go!

FKSJC, can you explain this comment? It's confusing.

I sure hope the last post was facetious! Rather simple as I (and apparently others) see it. Life in DTJC- pay BIG taxes, nothing or little in return. Is that less confusing?

Our Mayor seems to have a great talent. For insignificant storms that never materialize, you get OEM calls and he has crews standing by on overtime.

For Sandy, for the last big snow, and tonight he seems under-prepared at best. I'm home now, but I spent the last few hours out, on Rt. 440, Kennedy Blvd, Communipaw, Ocean, and a number of side streets.

The roads are a mess. I did not see any plows or trucks spreading salt, and no evidence that any of them had been out.

I thought the whole point of preparedness is that you PREPARE. You are ready whether the storm comes through or not. I can't decide whether its the corruption or the incompetence that bothers me more.

Exactly! Was on Manhattan Ave, Kennedy, 139, and others on my way home last night at ~ 8:30 pm. A VERY BIG mess! I was sometwhat filled with rage over my humongous taxes going for basically zero road preparation, prevention, or snow mitigation.

Seriously? Do you live (among the copious goose sh&t in Liberty State Park)? JC is many things, but pretty is not one of them. I get that beauty is in the eye of the beholder so one can always find it- but really?! Maybe the VIEW of NYC, river, etc is pretty (from waterfront or LSP), but the city itself?

What is ugly about the streets surrounding Van Vorst Park, Hamilton Park, or most of the Paulus Hook areas? I think the historical brownstones are scenic and pretty. I think there are parts of downtown that are ugly too but I find ugly interesting. I commute through the bowels of Newark everyday and it's one of the most visually interesting places I've ever seen, in an urban decay sort of beautiful way.

1) did not say ugly- just discagreed about JC being prettty

2) in fairness to original post-mentioned that I get it- de gustibus non disputandum est

How about Healy's latest comments regarding "interlopers and newcomers" (his EXACT words)? For a campaign kickoff. Real inclusive buddy!

See http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... g_mates.html#incart_river

Personally, I find this VERY offensive- been here more than a few years, not as long as him. Big deal, does that mean anyone who hasn't shouldn't have a voice? Really?! That's the best JC can do? I think not!

Not sure if Michele is running on Healy's ticket, but probably- he appointed her.

Diane Coleman is "the real deal" too (founder of JC's Building an Empire). Not sure what gives someone the qualities of "the real deal" but if one is interested in the opposite of Healy- look no further!

Nov 6- not only is this the presedential election, but voters in Ward F (inclusive of former Ward E districts), will have a chance to elect a council rep (rather than have a mayoral appointee)

If you are interested in progress and change, support Diane Coleman

call it simplistic but think about things in terms of the average or typical voter (I realize the definition of average or typical is up for grabs- isn't that really what this is all about?)

Healy slate (whatever that ends up looking like)=definition of corruption

Fulop slate= the opposite of corruption (definition=?)

I have been on Wayne for 4 years now (at Dixon between Monmouth and Varick). I should have made this vow a LONG time ago, but based on the "characters" described, the park, etc I have recently decided to NEVER walk down Wayne St. from Grove PATH- always use Columbus or Mercer- not the crap that is Wayne St! I don't do this daily (than goodness), but frequently enough for it to be a pain in the a$%.

While I'm a fairly strong, middle-aged guy, I feel unsafe even when with my parner (another fairly strong, middle-aged guy). The latest is the delinquints "intimidaion" tactics or taking up the entire sidewalk with antics- god-forbid you should interrupt them- watch out!

I hate to say hear we go again, but here we go again.

Ugh- nothing is "easy" in this town (unless you are one of the corruptocrats?). Some of the ballots mailed out this week show folks that were formally in ward E, now F, as still being ward E. NOT the case!!!!! It ain't rocket science Clerk's Office!

Please check to see what your situation is- especially if you were affected by moving ward boundaries.
