Here's an idea - obey the traffic signals and you won't have to worry about the cameras.

Actually - 95% pedestrian. Just because drivers suck as well does not mean pedestrians don't need to heed the signals. I agree the driving around here is subpar in most instances. The two factors together are what make for a terribly dangerous environment for everyone.

I am both a pedestrian and a driver and it is a rare exception when I see a pedestrian obey the signals.

More driver than pedestrian, I would hazard. I am a pedestrian 100% of the time, and it is a rare exception when I see a driver obey the traffic laws.

I guess I too am one of those rare pedestrians. but just this afternoon, I waited *gasp!* for a walk signal on Columbus.

as I was midway across, a driver idling at the red light decided he needed to be going in the other direction, so he ran the light and made a U-turn - from the right lane, for added awesomeness - barreling through my "it's safe to cross" crosswalk twice.

so yeah. we should totally be ticketing jaywalkers. they're the worst.

There are signs at Grove/Columbus alerting pedestrians to wait for walk signal and that there is a delay.

Let's say you are at an intersection that requires pushing the button, and you didn't realize it. Just push it the next cycle! Those few minutes are a small price to pay. Cars cannot just decide not to obey a signal, and those on foot should not be able to either. If the light really seems messed up, go to another corner to safely cross.

I don't understand why people can't follow the signals.

Yelling and screaming at 6am on a JC street is not all that unusual ;) Or an off leash dog barking. Or a homeless person with volume control issues.

I also think it is a great visual clue to people that JCPD is beefing up. My kid (and I) loved seeing all of the police recruits running by the other day. The later they do it, the more traffic obstruction.

Counted 5 off leash dogs in the pet free zones in HP yesterday and this AM. What is the proper course of action? Ask them if
the dog run is out of order? Call animal control?

Not going to go back through the whole thread and see if this particular situation has been mentioned. Every morning around 8:30ish there is a woman with a largish black dog walking the perimeter of HP. Sometimes on leash, sometimes off leash, sometimes she is outside the fence and the dog (unleashed, obviously) is inside the fence! Shall I direct her to the dog run? Call the cops? Snap a pic and use the new fancy city website to report? Mind my own business? JC listers who have also seen her, what has been your course of action?

There is also a subway 2 blocks away from the Grove Street one on Montgomery! So I think it is getting overrun.

At least JC (IMO) isn't terribly overrun by Subway yet. One at the mall and one by Grove...I assume there's at least one in Hoboken and probbaly others outside of Downtown but nowhere near Dunkin levels.

When I was at RU there were 3 in walking distance of me. They were outdoing Dunkin!

I was always more of a Quiznos fan (which, ironically, is what DD is replacing in Newport). Potbelly is also OK, I wonder if they will be making a move across from NYC anytime soon.

Qdoba and Crisp are nice additions to the food court.

I pass that thing every day. The Stop sign clearly says "STOP and then GO if clear" - 5 seconds of our lives to stop and avoid possibly hitting a child is fine by me.

That said, the officer could have just given you a warning and explained the rules since it was a first offense, and it is a bit confusing for some.

The 5K was never cancelled, just the marathon and half (also found from following OPs link):

The event has been moved into Liberty State Park and will follow the same event format with the Expo on Friday (5/24) and the Saturday (5/25) post-race festival with vendors, music a food. Liberty State Park will host the Liberty Lightning 5K and with the festival already scheduled to be in the park, it will be a fun time for everyone.

Nope, Fulop all the way! And I am sorry for my word choice, you are correct that demolishing the mall is way more creative thinking than taking a slight detour around it. I am not sure getting rid of the mall or doing a massive overhaul would be a positive change. I just meant that there is a pretty easy way for runners to get to the waterfront from HP without cutting through the mall or Metro Plaza. I run that way all the time.

I tried them all and prefer A&P delivery. They bring bags and you can use coupons, etc. On time, they call if they can't find something/want to substitute and you can order same day. Order in the AM, have it delivered in the PM.

Re: Another accident at Grove and Grand

I think that Columbus and Grove is fine, as long as you obey the signs that say "Delayed Walk Wait" Almost everyone is crossing against the walk/don't walk because they cannot wait the extra 30 seconds until after the light changes to walk. That would be a revenue generator, ticket everyone who crosses against the light. Pedestrians complain, then ignore the very signals put there to keep them safe.

I always obey them, partly for my own safety, partly so my kids learn to cross at the proper time. Not an easy lesson to teach when everyone else is ignoring them.

I don't have any specific info, but I am guessing it was newly renovated right around the time Hurricane Irene hit. There were a lot of homes in the vicinity that were under a lot of water. Did you look at the flood maps/did your insurance company ask about this information?

There IS bike storage at Grove Pointe. I don't think people are using the racks out there at Grove Street as their personal storage as you wrote. 1) risk of theft 2) I see people with bikes going in and out of the building all the time.
