The $16 sandwich is an entire loaf of Italian bread stuffed with meats/cheese etc... It can easily feed 3-4 average people.

I went back to try it.

Now that's a sandwich!

2 thumbs up!

Why are so many trees being cut down in VVP?. My understanding was that ONE tree that obviously looked dead due to lack of leaves was going to be cut down, but I've seen two other mature trees cut since. Have professionals been consulted prior to cutting these trees? Why are these being cut down? Neither one seemed sick or dead visually. It's disconcerning that so many trees that provide beauty and shade to the park are being removed. Was these removals discussed during the VVPA meetings? Does anyone have any insight?

Last time I checked, there were still plenty of trees in VVP.

Has the tree been cut down yet? One of the guys cutting down the trees asked me for a light. I spoke with him, and he said he thinks the maple is healthy.

Not sure if it's still on their menu, but a veggie delight sandwich from Subway has all of their vegetable toppings on a sandwich, without the fake meat.

Third generation native of Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island. Introduced to Jersey City by an old NY friend, who had lived in East Brunswick for a while. Moved here in 1998 to be close to the World Trade Center (cutting my commute from 1 1/2 hours to 10 minutes.) Came to enjoy all the city conveniences. Love being able to go to NYC on a moments notice. Still have a short 30 minute commute to my new work location.

Never mind the overpriced fancy shmancy organic or other concept type bakery. A 'normal' Italian or Jewish style bakery on Grove Street is a can't miss.

Go around Brooklyn, there's one or more on every shopping street and they all seem to do well.

Cakes, cookies, danishes, cupcakes, breads, rolls etc., at a reasonable price. Simple enough.

Maybe now we'll have some 'real' sales and the sale items will be stocked.

Oh I was just going to post if anyone has used the dentist on Montgomery and greene. I think it's called Montgomery/Greene Dentists or something like that?

I just met the dentist(s) here yesterday. I walked in out of curiosity. What a great office. Everything is up to date, very modern, VERY CLEAN, and the dentist seem very nice and knowledgeable. Fantastic addition to the area. I am going to give them a try beacuse it is closer to home. I'll let you know in 6 months.

Also, keep in mind that dentist ( dental offices) set their fees by zipcodes plus or minus a few dollars unless they are medicare providers. Also keep in mind that you get what you pay for. What i mean by that is, Sterilization, up to date materials ( if a dentist trys to put a silver filling in your mouth RUN), and if your having any type of crown or prosthetic work done make sure they dont use a cheap lab in china. That crown may only cost you 800.00 but guess what your gonna spend another 1200.00 in 5 years to get it right.
i would rather have it done right the first time, be sure that they sterilize their equipment, and trust the person that's in my mouth.

JCNight,

I'm thinking about changing my general dentist, as well.
What was your experience with montgomery/greene. Also, do you know anything about Dr Cheng at 99 montgomery?

There's so many great state parks in NJ, PA, NY & CT you'll have to narrow down what you're looking to do there. Just in NJ you have parks diverse as the Pine Barrens, Delaware Watergap and High Point.Unfortunately, NJ has the WORST website and booking system, refusing to subscribe to the national reserveamerica.com system.

WEBMASTER, IF YOU'RE GOING TO CONSOLIDATE ALL CAMPING THREADS, AT LEAST GIVE IT A GENERIC "CAMPING" TITLE.

Brewster, I'm kinda just seeking out favorite campgrounds, of the JClisters, and why they like them.

Buy-Rite's opening may actually be good for all the local liquor stores. I drink infrequently but all the talk of beer put me in the mood to try something good. I went on the 'Beer Advocate' web site and did some research so I would know what to buy.

After thinking about the long walk to Buy-Rite, I decided to spend a little extra, and just get something nearby. The local store didn't have the huge selection of Buy Rite, but they do have some top rated beers.

My point is, if it wasn't for the interest that Buy Rite generated, I probably wouldn't have gone to the local store to buy a $9 bottle of Duvel.

Finally, there will also be 3 red maples 4" dia., 16'-18' high planted at Mercado Park in 5' x 5' tree pits which have already been installed. ....

I guess that means no Maple trees in the ground, between Grove and Barrow. I wonder how long the bushes in planters will live.

At least we got BJs, better then nothing.

Anyone else want to mention some good buys there. I got a good price on the Excedrin 300 ct for $4 (after a $2 instant rebate and $4 bj coupon). If they don't go bad, that's a lifetime supply for $4, as opposed to $11 for 100 at Duane Reade.

Does anyone else hate tying to compare prices for toilet paper and paper towels. My friend says they should sell it by weight. How many pounds of pulp product do you get per dollar.

My friend first introduced me to the warehouse experience at Costco. Price and selection were better at Costco then BJ and unlike BJs, they give a lot of free samples of food. I like the way Costco packages their apples, in a reusable blister pack and they have a liquor store. I thought of joining there, but BJs is just too convenient. Also, Costco doesn't accept credit cards and closes earlier.

BJs - What are some of the good things to buy there?

I noticed someone asked about BJs on the Shoprite thread, regarding if you can really save money there.

I joined a couple of months ago and I've been keeping a spreadsheet comparing what I paid at BJs vs what I would have paid at Shoprite (by checking online). While some things are priced comparably, like fruit and bread, and sometimes even cheaper at Shoprite when there's a sale, there are some items where it's much cheaper at BJs.

I've found big savings on food staples milk, orange juice, eggs, cereal, butter; bath items like toothpaste, shampoo, toilet paper, excedrin; convenience foods like frozen stuffed sole, teryaki salmon, vegetarian burgers; household items like detergent. Snackfoods like big bags of almonds, dried fruit; other things like coffee, wymans blueberry juice, peanut butter, jam. These all are mostly things that don't go bad and though a bigger outlay of money is required for the large sizes, they tend to last long so I don't have to buy as often.

I'm curious what other people like to buy there.
