For reference - I highly recommend Kunis Piano Moving - they did a terrific job with my recent interstate move, and were extremely helpful in getting it set up.

From March 24 Jersey Journal:Heights Spring Into Action

Community groups in the Jersey City Heights are collaborating on the first ?Spring Into Action? neighborhood clean-up campaign.
The effort began last weekend and continues on Sundays through April 28, from noon to 2 p.m., with the exception of April 8 (Easter Sunday), according to a news release. Tomorrow the group will meet at Hopkins and Baldwin avenues and the target area is the southern section of the Heights, north of Route 139.
Volunteers are asked to bring their own brooms and shovels fan out to clean up streets, sidewalks and parks. All clean-up events are rain or shine.
?Spring Into Action is a timely opportunity for the community to come together and take the idea of ?spring cleaning? to the neighborhood level,? said Peter Basso, president of the Washington Park Association and one of the Spring Into Action coordinators.
Spring Into Action targets different areas within Jersey City Heights each week. Next week, the group will meet at Beacon and Summit avenues. The target area is the Western Slope neighborhood.
For information, contact Basso at peter.a.basso@gmail.com or (617) 818-2013.

PATH to WTC to A is probably your best bet - should be just over an hour, longer if you are commuting late at night (the A runs local after around 10 p.m.).

This is great news, but the headline is misleading. There won't be any overnight service (after 10 p.m.) or off-peak service to/from Manhattan. Hard to believe, especially since the lines are often long for the 10 - midnight buses.

Heard this morning that Academy is taking over the route beginning Nov. 6. Stay tuned.

An article from today's Jersey Journal:
http://www.nj.com/jjournal-news/index ... wners_on_jersey_city.html

The 10 only runs as far as Journal Square; it doesn't go into the city.

Business owners on Central Avenue are working to get NJ Transit to take over the route. Please vote here:

Here's the notice:
"Trans-Hudson Express, Inc. DBA Red & Tan Tours, which is the operator of Bus Routes #4 and #99-S authorized by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in MC-324537 and US DOT Docket No. 701300 hereby serves notice of its intent to discontinue service on both of these Bus Routes effective at Midnight on November 6, 2011."

This route also operates as route #10, so I'm not sure if that's being eliminated also. If so, that means a longer commute to New York from the Heights via NJ Transit's 123.

A notice was posted on the bus today saying that the 99S (Bayonne/Jersey City to NYC) is being eliminated on Nov. 6, 2011. Has anyone else heard more about this?

Can't Contact Condo Owner Causing Water Damage

A large leak from a unit in our building is causing damage to a structural beam. We've left several messages for the owner, but she has not returned any calls. Are there any other options? The leak needs to be repaired as soon as possible!

Thank you!!

A word of caution: keep your plans to switch management to yourself if RobinsOak employees or their family members own units in the building. We wanted to change, too, but the owner voted his parents onto the board.

I'm sorry so to hear of your problems with RobinsOak. My experience with them was a nightmare. Check out my previous posts (2005 and early 2006) and posts from MediaAvid - you're not alone.

There's another really great Mexican restaurant on Central and North - Mia's Mexican Cafe. Definitely worth checking out!

Welcome to the neighborhood!

Isn't anyone else concerned about what the mayor said?!? How about taking some responsibility?!?

Quote:

From the Jersey Journal, Oct. 31, 2006:

When asked what could be done, Healy echoed the comments of Police Chief Tom Comey, who earlier this month told The Jersey Journal that lax federal gun control laws are to blame.

"Every neighborhood has changed because of the ridiculous proliferation of guns in Jersey City. A federal plague requires a federal cure," Healy said. "New Jersey and New York are tough on guns, but people can drive down to Pennsylvania, Virginia or North Carolina, buy a trunkload of guns and sell them up here."
