Re: Fulop to solicit proposals from for-profit companies to replace FOL in running the Loew’s theater

The article I read said Fulop was giving 30M towards the rehab of the theater not to the management company but words can be twisted. Not on any side but at least something is finally getting done and only time can tell what will happen.

My wife and I use to go to MAE all the time till it closed, haven't gone to Union Republic on Newark that the owners opened. Went to Torch house once, thought it was a bust, was thinking of going back when they passed their growing pains but it never happened. Didn't get a chance to go to the new (now closed).
Parting from the subject just thought it was kind of cool here is a link to a story of Die Wilde Gans or The Wild Goose an early Dutch tavern in Communipaw.

I drive to GSP but you can take the bus to JSQ from Summit or to Grove from Grand. There might be other options.

Please do your research, unfortunately the guy was shot and shootings do happen in a city. Is there no crime in downtown JC? I knew of time not too long ago that downtown was not considered a good place to live except for pockets of neighborhoods, that made a difference.

Also heard that the empty lots around the park on the Garfield side have been bought by investors.

Lived here for the past 3 years and and really love our neighborhood. We also looked further down in BeLa because of the light rail but decided on Astor for the architectural and historical factor. Bergen Hill is listed in the New Jersey and National Registers of Historical Places (link below pg5) and it is one of the 5 historic Jersey City districts which includes Hamilton Park, Harsimus Cove, Paulus Hook and Van Vorst Park, but really hasn't received much press about it. There is also a book/designation report I purchased before buying with pics and descriptions of every home and the history dating back to the 1700's. Attaching a link to that as well since I'm pretty sure there will be some that will argue the validity of my post.

No hard feelings Brewster but it was my point of view at that time of the area, obviously I didn't live and didn't know the neighborhoods. JC downtown wasn't known as a safe and friendly neighborhood overall. Same thing now people are scared to go outside of the areas they think are safe and friendly, there are beautiful neighborhoods outside of JC downtown. Crime can happen anywhere.

Welcome to the neighborhood!
Not exactly from that area but around.
There a lot of people/transfers that foget or don't know how bad the downtown area was 10-12 years ago and trust me it was really really bad. Things change and it takes people to make that change. Make sure to check for your neighborhood association.

Went there a couple of years ago when they first opened, I was wondering how they would change the Sand Bar space. Overall it looked like a good place to come with the family eat and relax but the food was just bad everything was fried and greasy.
Would like to go back once and if they change their menu, we need a good seafood place/crab shack here in JC.

My wife and I moved in 3 years ago, we have 2 cars and just needed to get used to the street cleaning schedule. Surprisingly enough the parking was not bad we always find something near the house but once in a while one of us will have to park around the corner. The past year I have noticed more cars on the block, one of our neighbors told us is because of the apartment building on the side street being full. Something we were worried about was the the H.S. being right behind us but we never see or hear anything even on our days off think because the entrace is on the opposite side. JB elementary school is up a block and you'll see the little kids walking or being dropped off everymorning, we do need trash cans in the corners for the kids since I always find candy wrappers flying around. The neighbors are very friendly many have been living here for 20-30 years, there are new families moving in slowly and converting the multi family homes to single which hopefully will help with the parking. The commute we both work in the city, drive to Grove st where we have monthly parking and take the path but I am sure there are other ways. We both love it but can see how others can be skeptical.

Moved to the area 2 years ago, got tired of renting in "luxury" apartments and wanted to own/buy. Did some research and decided to on Bergen Hill two blocks up Summit from Grand.
Never had a problem, neighbors are very friendly. I dont go walking around 2-3am and there are some hot spots but overall I am very happy with my decision.

I've lived in a couple of dog friendly cities Downtown Orlando, Old Town Alexandria and Silver Spring MD.
JC is definitely one of the dirtiest when it comes to picking up after your dog. I'm a dog owner myself and don't understand how people can just let their dog go and not pick up after them.

The SPC college map is very basic and generic basically there is almost no crime in the heights, no crime in DT, safe inside SP but everything else in JC is high crime. I'm sure the reporters for the Peacock news letter did some research but to me it's more of a map for students warning them of the areas not to wonder off not a map you should judge JC by.
That link was to the old wards map here is one for the new map.
It'll be the second pic on the slide show.

I've been living in Astor Place for about a year and a half and no regrets here, the neighbors are friendly and it really feels like a community. My wife and I both work in NY and the commute is convenient about 45 min from door step, stop @starbucks to Midtown. We do need more places to eat around here R.I.P MAE.
There are a couple of projects that will really change the area Whitlock Cordage, the renovation of an old rope factory into condos and apartments been going since 2003 but recently there has been a lot of progress and literally a block away Berry Lane park 17 acres of unused land being transformed into a recreational area in phases first phase to be completed this year. If you drive by the area you can see the immensity of these projects, go down Grand St. turn on Communipaw towards LSP make a left on Manning ave to Whitlock or a right on Woodward St to Berry Lane park.

I live on Astor bought a place here about a year ago and can't complain. The neighbors are very nice even got my sidewalk shoveled a couple of times during snow but walk down 2 blocks towards LP and communipaw looks a bit rough, seemed like they invested on the strip years ago but it has a way to go.
