Re: Indio's Place on 1st

"Well obviously you must not realize that middle aged men who spend their afternoons drinking at bars are living some sort of alternative lifestyle. I only said imagine if, I accused no one at Indio's of being a pedophile. Are you saying a park across the street from a bar is a good idea? Really? And that's not even Indio's fault, they were there first...(technically I'm not sure when the old park that was there deteriorated) I was just saying it's creepy...which it is!"

Hamilton Park has 9th and Coles and Hamilton Inn within a block's reach...is that creepy? A good idea?

What is the huge difference between dog urine and kid urine? I've never seen a dog pee in the children's playground, but I've seen one too many children pee behind a tree! It's weird and a bad example of what society expects of a person. You are doing your child no favor.

Last year, both myself and my workplace were undergoing a move. We both had loads of books we want to go to a charity, but we found that most organizations, second hand stores, were over burdened with donations. Our best bet was to recycle. Sad, but true.

I understand the frustration. But this response, and online libel, is ridiculous. You have provided no proof! And yet, you gave out directions to the house of someone you suspect!?! Stop your passive aggressive posts and confront the person you think is responsible. Not, "When are 'we' going to leave a letter". What? Are you 9 years old? Do you need a posse?

And please, please, do not trial and convict someone without a voice (and then post directions to their house) in a public and permanent place.

Agreed. I've lived and grown up on both sides and rude people/noises/circumstances happen everywhere. Honestly I don't understand what the expectation is with noise in JC. No matter if everyone of your neighbors is compliant with your noise rules...you've got people who will visit.

Hudson County is highly populated/trafficked...where in the hell did you think you moved into??

Moved from the suburbs?? What an odd comment-- I lived in Manhattan for 10 years and never experienced the level of trash/broken glass I see here. But as an aside, I thought it was strange that my comment would lead someone to conclude that I must have moved from the suburbs-- who moves to JC from the suburbs? Isn't the reverse far more true?

To the person who thinks I should spend my precious free time when I am not working volunteering to clean up other people's broken glass-- I don't think so. I would be happy to lead an effort to require the people who are responsible (the building owners it seems?) to keep their sidewalks clean and safe-- why should I do it for them? Is there an ordinance anyone can point me to on this so I can see what to cite to for violations?

Not for nothing, but if you only lived in Manhattan for the past 10-15 years, you have unreasonable city-living expectations.

"It's great that the local dogs in the neighborhood have the same mind-set endorsed by their owners to act as a Police or Security dog. I feel reassured that these types of dogs will never be let off lead (even accidentially) where kids play or the elderly walk."

It is a very simple statement: Dog owners are the Neighborhood Crime Watch.

I am not talking about the size of the dog, but the presence of people. Dog owners walk dogs 24/7, thus deter crime just by being witness.

I like this. As a kid that grew up on the NE Corridor line, I heard train whistles all night and now equate that with comfort.

I like sounds of life, people living, etc. Please don't jump on this. I obviously don't enjoy nuisance, but train horns, folks enjoying themselves, babies crying, dogs barking at unusual sounds, occasional house parties...it is New Jersey to me.

+1 more for Lustiger. Great recommendation! I've had issues with my dentists in Jersey City in the past, I wish I knew of his practice earlier...but very happy to have found him and his staff through JC List. Thanks, people!

Most people Downtown walk small harmless dogs. Im sorry but if Im a robber and I see you walking a pug im gonna pet it then rob you. Now if you go to other place in JC they have pitbulls, in that case your safe.

Criminals want easy targets in order to avoid jail. A dog, big or small, poses many problems that may lead to a messy crime.

Along with that, dogs are walked all hours of the day. Dog owners and walkers are the eyes and ears of the community. Like I said, we are the Neighborhood Crime Watch.

"From what I have witnessed in JC and other places...most thieves, robbers, muggers are simply cowards. Take your big dog with you, and even the ones with guns will leave you alone for easier pickings."

Agreed, a dog makes you less of a target for sure. And we dog owners are out walking our dogs 24/7/365. Which is why there should be more props and respect for dog owners in general. Dog owners are the Neighborhood Crime Watch, like it or not.

Did this attack occur in a Dog Free Area?? If so, clearly another reason those silly signs are deterring a serious crime watch.

Hi,

I'd like to buy the cabinets, flooring, counter and appliances necessary to update my kitchen but I'm looking for someone to install all this. In particular, the floor. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for this thread, I have added so many of your suggestions! I thought I would contribute a few of my own:

Dexter (S1 and S2) - I don't have cable so I'm behind...now I'm gonna start on Weeds which everyone in my life has recommended!
Michael Jackson This is It - I'm a big fan, a go to "background" audio/visual for Saturday cleaning/organizing. :)
Man on Wire - Inspirational
The Warriors - Throwback...lots of these in my list, I like reliving the 80s on Netflix with Labyrinth, Desperately Seeking Susan, etc
The Devils Backbone - Guillermo del Toro
The Orphanage - Horror en espanol
Quilombos - Brazilian slave exile communities
Cronos - Guillermo del Toro vintage
Up - Makes me happy. :)

Enjoy!

Re: Local Veterinarian

I highly recommend Dr. Zalis, formerly of the Hoboken Animal Hospital, now with the Union City Animal Clinic. Not walking distance, but if you have a car she is worth the drive. Like other posters, I appreciate that Dr. Zalis doesn't push unnecessary procedures/tests/treatments on me. We first developed our relationship after several Veterinarians at Hoboken Animal Hospital told me I had to sedate my dog before bringing her in for an appointment, a move that almost cost my dog her life, because she was too nervous. Dr. Zalis quickly did away with that idea and worked with me and my dog so that now my dog is cool as a cucumber when at the vet. Here's her website: http://www.unioncityanimalclinic.com/Union City Animal Clinic
