A bit more than a million per dead body.

Chump change for a natural gas company.

Didn't they just open a Walmart in Bayonne?

Nice summary, btw.

To the pros I would add awesome Polish delis, and a brand new Shop-Rite. The Shop-Rite has a good seafood section. Two blocks south Scudder's has very fresh fish.

Cons - no Asian delis, very limited restaurant choices.

Bayonne is alright.

Some of the best Italian delis and restaurants anywhere.

Relatively low crime because the Cosa Nostra is in charge....

It still does not make sense to me for the trucks coming to Bayonne port facilities to schlep 2 miles east past 14A, exit the Turnpike at 14B in JC, and then schlep back to Bayonne, through JC streets. WTF? Don't we have enough traffic and exhaust fumes?

How is the exit 14B, with its three toll booths going to handle all the Bayonne Port and warehouse truck traffic?

Are they (NJTA) crazy?

They are going to send all these trucks 2 miles east (past 14A) on the Turnpike to 14B, only to have them go back through Jersey City to Bayonne?

What I find strange is that people who live in Lafayette do not venture out at night on foot because "it's dicey", and yet overall they are "very happy".

Different set of requirements, I guess.

A few years ago, after I never received a watch I ordered from Amazon (my building has no doorman, and often deliveries are left in the lobby), I said the hell with it.

From then on, everything I ordered went to my workplace address (via UPS, USPS, Fedex, whatever), and I never missed a shipment. I always request a signature when I order things online. The Shipping/Receiving folks at my place of employment have scanners, and everything has gone smoothly so far.

Last time I was called for jury duty I just took Path to Journal Square and walked a few blocks to the courthouse.

It worked then, but Wednesday may be a different story with the 6 inches of snow expected.

That's quite a new concept, a corkage fee at a BYOB. I don't like it at all; seems like a new way to separate patrons from their money.

The survey is designed to support the Spectra Energy pipeline through JC. I am not sure that there is a way around it, because the questions are formulated in a way which supports the pipeline.

Natural gas pipe ruptures in Jersey City, 37 homes evacuated

An apartment building with 37 units was evacuated today when a
contractor working in the building?s basement ruptured a natural gas
pipe, according to Jersey City Fire Director Armando Roman.

Several police and firefighter units responded to the call at 3:24
p.m. after tenants smelled the odor of natural gas at 2695 Kennedy
Blvd., he said.

Firefighters evacuated the building and shut off the valve for the
main gas line and then ventilated the building by opening windows and
turning on fans before PSE&G took over the situation, Roman said.

The tenants were allowed back in around 6 p.m., he said.

No on was hurt in the incident, but Roman said the volume of gas in the building would have been enough to cause a substantial explosion.

The US Guvernment is already screwing us at the airports by legalized groping and peeping (sorry for the off-topic, but I had to vent. Please do not reply to this comment...)

Somehow I am very pessimistic that we can stop this pipeline. It seems to me that we (the People) have lost what little control of our government we had.

From the quote below, it is clear that FERC is in bed with Spectra. I already wrote to FERC; if there is anything more I can do legally, I gladly will.

good luck to him.

I am not challenging your informative post, but just wondering: why would you go for minimal requirements in physics and biology?

Particularly for biology, I'd take a couple of advanced courses, if medical school is my goal.

A good grade in physics might also impress some medical school admissions officers.

Physics ain't easy...

I am still hoping that was a different Bruce due to the discrepancies (lived on Ambergris Caye vs the mainland, visa vs citizenship), but I admit it does not look good...

On Oct 7, 2010 I met a guy in the White Star bar whose name was Bruce, and who lived in Belize. I remember the date because that was the night when Halladay of the Phillies had a no-hitter in the MLB playoffs. I and Bruce talked that night about the hapless Mets, because we were both Mets fans. Bruce was with a buddy, who was also a Mets fan, and I was with my wife. I really hope it was not him who got killed by the jaguar. He did say he lived close to the WS bar, but also lived in Belize.

The Bruce I met mentioned that he lived in Ambergris Key (Belize) and had to renew his Belize residency every month.

The press reports say that Bruce Cullerton had a Belizean citizenship and lived on the mainland.

I really hope it was not the guy I met that night.
