people move to jersey city out of necessity. people are now either moving even farther into brooklyn or to the west of manhattan cause there's no where else to go for the same price you used to be able to pay.

do people really like that scandinavian modern look so much that it's in every luxury apartment advertisement? they look like dorm rooms. honestly, the furniture they use looks like it's from target.

More than what price, if it's what they paid then is it a dollar more or even more ?

i guess i meant less than half of what they're paying. they are paying $3315+$50 for a 1,000 sq ft 2 bedroom apartment. mine is 3br and roughly 1,200 sq ft for $1400 a few blocks from grove path.

isn't there an upscale market at the base of their building? and yeah yeah to each their own, but i dont have to censor my feelings on people who make too much money and still whine about everything.

if someone wants your bike bad enough they'll get it. using a new york lock (or 2) is perfectly good enough if you put it through around the seat tube and back wheel or even just the back wheel, cause no one can get the lock through that triangle with the wheel attached. then have another new york lock around the front wheel or a cable connect from the front wheel to the lock on the back wheel. those giant chains aren't fool proof and if you fall with one wrapped around you, you'll probably break your ribs.

^^^Well for something people were making a big deal of and by having some big threads, I did expect something a little more. Didnt have to be fancy but i figured it would be something closer to dave & busters without the food(before they mentioned food would be included). It looks so simple for something that took so long ( i know not their fault, its the city, i know i know..smh).

Maybe the one in brooklyn looks more like what im thinking of who knows, but like others i welcome them here. We definitely need more places to go IN this city.

but that's not what they were going for. this the way they want it, not because of the city. i believe the idea was to use the space almost as-is and just clean it up a bit. i see it as tastefully utilitarian. it's an oldschool videogame arcade that serves beer and food, nothing like dave and busters, more like the seaside boardwalk in the 80s. the one in brooklyn looks just like this. the facade is not even as nice as this one. im not saying not to welcome them in just that what you visioned isnt what this was ever supposed to be.

dont know how this thread got sidetracked but whatever. I just saw the pics of inside the barcade and i have to admit i expected something better. The inside looks so bleh. Nothing spectacular at all, i didn't expect some 5 star lounge decor, but i did expect something better than school lunch chairs and tables.

I know what you mean; I thought the same thing. But I'll still welcome them with open arms and am saving my quarters.

hahah what did you expect for an arcade that you can drink in? there's fancier bars in jc for people like you ya know..

yeah every part of the city has crime, but i always see hoodrats walking around jsq area. sometimes they come downtown. my friend holly lives on a friendly block 2 blocks from jsq path. one night she was randomly pistol whipped, almost raped, ended up in hospital for facial surgery. this was around 11:30pm-ish. i know i know, she should have been inside her house at that hour.

JSQ is what it is and people live there because it's affordable and somewhat convenient.

yes to an extant you can stop junk mail http://www.dmachoice.org

i consider any mail without my name on it or any mail that i did not request to receive to not be my responsibility. i honestly don't care what the law is... i didnt ask for it and it's not coming in my apartment or going in my garbage or becoming my problem. i won't go out of my way trying to prevent delivery either. the person responsible is whoever created it and sent it to me without my permission. to me, these coupons and flyers are just unwanted invitations to consume more things i dont want or need. how are we going to become a sustainable society if we continue to allow junk mail?

such a waste of paper. i signed up on a website somewhere to stop junk mail and credit card offers. it worked except for the junk from local businesses, which i will keep throwing on the floor until my mail carrier gets the point and stops putting it in my box.

bands (including my own) play at lamp post and lucky's pretty regularly. i wish we had something like maxwell's though. and i cant believe we're this close to new york and there is barely any kind of music scene here.

yeah it's definitely just a coincidence. healthy people drop dead constantly whether poisonous gases are involved or not.

I'm a vegetarian and never doubted that plants are also living things trying to survive like animals. But I prefer eating plants and know that the meat industry is one of the biggest energy drains on the planet. The amount of water, electricity, and fuel used to raise an animal, slaughter it, then package and ship it to our grocery stores is mind boggling. To me, the words humane and kill do not make any sense together either. Caged or free range, it's life was still ended for a meal. I don't know why one way makes people feel any better.

They have Galaga and Joust at the Brooklyn one, so I'm going to assume yes. Not Street Fighter though, that's 16-bit.

I'm looking forward to Spy Hunter and Donkey Kong.

actually street fighter arcade came out in 1987, therefore it falls under barcade's requirements "we will have 33 games, all from the 1970′s and 1980′s only." second time you made me be a nerd in this thread!

i read. i was pointing out that your statement contradicted the topic. i agree that the city doesn't care about bicyclists but i just dont think this road expansion is intended for public transportation. i think it's being used as an artery between the turnpike and the tunnel, which is backed up with traffic most of the day. i can dream about bike lanes and grassed medians too but id be happy if the road was just repaved already.

Like Corybraiterman, I think bars sprinkled throughout urban neighborhoods add charm. It's not as if every corner in JC has a bar - it is not even CLOSE to that. I don't understand the grouchiness on this site - do you really think East Village residents complain about bars nestled in their neighborhood?

Wow. So having bars like Indio's and the Latin Lounge in my neighborhood is charming. Somehow that never occurred to me before.

were those bars there already when you moved to that neighborhood or were you there first?
