at least that's how I remember it. And it's called "the coffee shop" but it appears to have two bars. It's like something out of one of those dreams you have where nothing makes sense. "Dystopian dreamscape" is actually another name that appeals to me more than "the coffee shop bistro wine bar speakeasy."

Nailed it. I've been laughing at this as well. The signage must've been derived from some Google search on "most popular restaurant food items over the last five years" and they went and decaled their windows with it.

And it's only getting worse with the influx of high rises going up, which means massive population increases. The mayor is busy with his self-promotion (for what everyone assumes is a run at the governor's seat), but not addressing issues like this, other than to bash the Port Authority when he can.

They appear to be dealing with some drainage issues on that basement landing. Saw a pump out there earlier this week. Shame because they spent a lot of time doing a nice tile/mosaic, but it's submerged under murky water any time it rains.

Have a friend who's a mover for a living and when I moved I asked him this very question. He said $20/mover would be a good tip.

As far as recommendations: Catlow Movers: http://www.catlowmovers.com/

Have used these guys three times over the last 10 years, as well as recommended to other friends, and they're ace. Efficient, careful, clean and professional.

They may still be getting by with the money they made during Sandy when they were the only restaurant open for a day and had a line down the block.

The OP was probably referring to the fact that the more developed the neighborhood becomes (and with it restaurants, etc.) the more sought after the place will be, driving up the rents everywhere in the vicinity. Having lived here for over 10 years, I can say that this has been the situation so far at least.

Increasing supply only puts downward pressure on price if demand slows or remains constant, but in reality demand is (for now) at least surpassing supply. Until and unless demand dries out, rents throughout downtown will generally continue to rise.

Exactly.

Would like to know from the city/Fulop how they intend on handling the urban planning given this news. The PATH trains
are currently at capacity and they have reduced the frequency with which they run over the decade I've been here. If they don't intend on upgrading or increasing trains, this will lead to commuting chaos once all of these buildings are occupied. Not to mention, where are the schools and public facilities that should be built to support the growth of the city?

FYI... Caught a white male in his 60s stealing an older looking bike (not mine) while walking my 3yr old to pre-K this morning. He was wearing a grey zip-up hoodie and using a handheld circular saw near the corner of Warren and York. There's a service entrance (locked) to the apartment complex there that he was attempting to use the doorway nook as cover. He saw that I had stopped to look at him and took off with the bike and his toolbag. Wasn't about to start playing vigilante with my child as my sidekick so I called JCPD and filed a report. They said they'd patrol the area and keep an eye out.

They set up a protest out front with PA and all. That must've been one hellava council meeting.

Agree with the two previous posts. Specially ordered a cake. Upon pickup, they didn't have any boxes that could accommodate the cake so they sent me home with the baking pan it was baked in. Once home and cutting into the cake, it was dry beyond belief and in my opinion, over-sweetened. Will definitely be my last time patronizing their bakery.

Recently ate here. Nice space and great brick oven pizza (though not as good as Paulus Hook Brick Oven). Definitely plan on returning to try the carbonara as that's my fave pasta dish. Only weird thing was the owner was there eating and he seemed a bit aggro (he was on the phone cursing out someone in the back room). Service was fine, too.

I thought City Hall kept reassuring residents that only off-duty police would be used as security and none of these provided resources would deplete the force or the taxpayer? Then why is it that I see squad cars with officers stationed in front of the firehouse and they're blocking Wayne Street (between Barrow and Jersey) right now filming the exterior of someone's brownstone? This goes along with some story I saw on News 12 how City Hall didn't anticipate the amount of press that was gathering in front of the firehouse and that they need more reinforcements to deal with it.

Seems they underestimated all of this. In the end, it will surely be the undoing of Healy's administration if things get out of hand (too bad his corruption scandal wasn't his undoing).

I'm not following you here, OneSkirt. Why did you say "No, it proves..." My post wasn't a question and it certainly wasn't defending MTV or this stupid ass show. I was just trying to clear up the misinformation of it being a six-week production when it's only three. I then went on to quote that JCI interview where they divulge the "plot" of this show since there was some debate about it on this board. The added bonus from that article was they went on to illustrate how the producers were misleading owners in order to get their consent to film in their establishments.

To put it simply: I'm hating the idea of this show filming here and anyone thinking it will yield benefits is sadly mistaken. But, I think I can survive three weeks with these "reality stars" living around the corner from me.

The whole thing is very shady. Our child attended The Little Gym and sure enough, Mr. Joseph were soliciting renewal fees just the week before. Trust me... if you're filing bankruptcy, you know about it in advance. The fact that corporate is saying that he violated their agreement tells you how shady this all is.

Filming will take place from Feb 21 - March 9 (3 weeks). This information was taken from notices that were posted on residences all along Mercer between Grove and Barrow.

Secondly, I keep seeing comments on what this show is about. The plot is a "Laverne & Shirley" ripoff about Snooki and JWOWW living in JC and trying to find jobs and love. Here's an excerpt from JCI:

"Another manager said he thought the MTV producers seemed disingenuous. He said that when the producers first scouted the restaurant?s location, he asked specifically if it would be for the Jersey Shore spin-off, but was told no, it would just be a Laverne and Shirley type reality show, which is basically the description that MTV has been touting for the spin-off. Other bar managers and owners said that the contract seemed intrusive in other ways ? that they wouldn?t get paid enough and that MTV would have free rein over their establishments."

Hope that clears things up. I am one of the many people unhappy they're living a block away from me, but now knowing it's only for 3 weeks, I can live with it. Just as long as they're not filming in the bar downstairs from me and turning it into Seaside's Karma. Not in the mood to hear shitty house at 3am on a Wednesday.
