I highly doubt it. They used to live on my block, and neither one of them can get out of their own way, let alone "get away."

I don't understand. You think that people shouldn't be able to defend themselves against thugs who are out to do us all harm?

Oh right---you're part of that group that believes only criminals should have guns. Makes sense.

No. I think everyone should have guns. As a matter of fact, everyone should have uzi's and play tag with them in the park. We need citizens, thieves, and everyone else firing away at each other. That'll teach em!

I'm not sure we're talking about the same block. Are you sure you saw this block over the summer? I can't remember a summer being as bad as this past one.

That block isn't that bad. It's probably the best location in the grove st path area in terms of being in the middle of everything (restaurants, bars, stores etc.).

That st will change dramatically in the next 5-10 yrs as they plan to knock down that ugly blue/greyish building across the st and build apts in that parking lot on the corner of Barrow and CC.

I think Rosina will also have a parking garage on the first fl? should be interesting

That ugly blue/greyish building will never be knocked down. It's on the historic registry. It's actually not bad looking if they restored it back to it's original state.

That said, I still cannot imagine anyone buying anything on that block. Yes, the location to the path is great, but that one block is really horrible. They will probably be showing the units in the dead of winter when the block is fairly quiet. Just watch out when summer rolls around.

What makes you say that ?? Can you provide details on the license requirements ? Finally a venue that supports the folk music circuit and you to find a way to knock it. The have some pretty good acts I hope you at least tried it out it is a sensational place and you have to get an earfull of the accoustics there. If you listen to WFUV 90.7 Fit will give you an insight on the folk music scene in the Nyc FM metroploitan area, including the Brennan.

My point is that Made with Love got their music shut down by the city for not having this "entertainment license. Gallery 58 is constantly being harassed when it has art openings. And there are many more examples of this archaic law that this city randomly enforces. So my point is that since this is part of the "justice building" they can pretty much do what they please. While at the same time pointing fingers at others trying to do the exact same thing. Anyone trying to make this city a better place is made to jump through endless hoops. I guess you just need tons of cash to get anything done around here.

The only problem with all this is that it's the Hudson. And water quality aside, there is never a dull moment on that river around here with boats, ferries, cruise ships, etc. A small paddle kayak is not exactly what I'd want to be paddling on the lower Hudson.

Yes, I agree with the above posts. I should have clarified my statement by saying that having that many libraries in a city this size is just not called for any longer. A few should definitely stay open, but I think everyone can probably agree that a bunch should be closed. Of course there will be those that will protest the ones in their neighborhood, but some will definitely have to close. As stated above, people use them to access the internet. That's kind of ironic don't you think?

This reminds me of the RIAA going after music downloaders. Libraries served a purpose years ago. It is something that is simply not used anymore. A bigger, better, faster system has come to be called the Internet. Accept it or die. It's as simple as that. There's a reason why Blockbuster, record shops, landlines, are no longer or fading fast. It's called evolution.

new in town?

Far from new. When expecting a package request that the sender require a signed receipt for the delivery. The sender will state whether that can be done or not. If it c an be done and the package is dropped off without one or worse yet stolen. Then immedately go and complain. Also make sure the package is insured !! With this in miond and something occurs you got them by the you know what.

Again, all of this means nothing if the sender requires a signature and someone at your address 20 years ago gave FedEx or UPS a signature release for the address. It doesn't matter if that person still lives there or not. Believe me, I went through it.

If you rent, or even own your home and the residence has had previous owners, you really need to call USPS, UPS, DHL, FedEx, etc and make sure there are no signature release forms on file for your address. If there are, a lot of times, the driver won't even bother ringing a buzzer and just leave a package out in the open on your stoop or wherever. It's laziness to the extreme. I had this problem with FedEx and was told there was a previous tenant that had a signature release form. It was still near impossible to get it revoked for some reason. This could be the reason packages get left at a lot of residences out in the open.

To double check my feelings, to coincide with a trip to one of the Union Square theaters I did a stroll through TJ's on 14th...again
Price comparisons are hard because so much is store brand labelled, but TJ Albacore tuna at $1.99 when Shorprite was selling Chicken of the Sea for $.99, the smallest acorn squash I have ever seen like big lemons for $1.99 each. OY. Honeydews the size of grapefruit for $2.99 when the same week I got a succulent honeydew the size of a bowling ball on Central Aneue for a buck. Preposterous.

So the gentleperson talking about how cheap Trader Joe's prices were by giving his few silly examples was "prevaricating."

The entire vegetable section looked like Shop-Rite's garbage bin...I mean really, any Korean grocer would long ago have thrown the stuff away.

About three buck Chuck (the junk wine)...I fell for it for a trial of every varietal. It MAY have been good once upon a time but it is undrinkable rotgut today. I am a wine connoisseur but anyone who can get this crap down deserves a medal. Plain old cardboard Carlo Rossi Cabernet Sauvignon becomes Chateau Margaux-like compared to the slop sold as the cheapy at Trader Joe's...and it's even cheaper. I don't ask a lot of cheap wine, but I don't like the feeling that it is dissolving fillings out of my teeth.

I asked the clerk how long the checkout would be if I joined the Monday evening line. He said "It moves fast, no more than a half hour." Really, a half hour. He also said things are better on a Tuedsday or Wednesday morning. Could they be worse?

Earlier poster was correct, I have never been in any other Trader Joe's so maybe some are Nirvana, but the one at 14th and Third strikes me as a visit to Hell.

So it looks like you found your solution. Don't go to Trader Joe's
