This is the web site of the firm?they do a lot of work in NJ.

http://www.realtyappraisal.net/

If you follow the below path you get to a sample contract.

-> SERVICES -> Sample Contract -> Download

In the DEFENSE piece it just sounds like the home owner won?t have a chance in an appeal. The home owner will be going against the current JC Tax Assessor and (probably) the ex- JC Tax Assessor. A no win situation. At least if the reval guy didn?t know JC you could maybe BS him. And what?s up with the $100 an hour fee? Everyone in the city will probably appeal, that would mean bit bucks for someone.

sorts.

The boxing-themed bar, in a rough stretch

Hey you JC ?newcomers? are a creative bunch. I have an idea for you. Strap a mini cam and mic to the head of a JC ?newcomer? who has never experienced a true JC summer. Maybe have it turn on automatically when the temperate hits 80 or 90 degrees, or when the music from cars and apartments blast at 85+ decibels.(at least the music drowns out the barking dogs, random nighttime screams, and breaking beer bottles)

If the mini cam and mic (and "newcomer") survive the experiment. The expressions on the ?newcomers? faces and comments would be classic. I think it would be an even bigger hit on you-tube then ?the golden voiced homeless man?. (where is that dude now..probably in JC somewhere with a cup)

The Strokes film music video for new single at Loews Theater in Jersey City

Published: Monday, February 21, 2011, 11:05 AM Updated: Monday, February 21, 2011, 11:42 AM
By The Jersey Journal

The Strokes, a critically-acclaimed band from New York City, shot a music video for their latest single at The Landmark Loews Jersey Theatre in Jersey City on Wednesday, as reported by The Jersey Journal.

Theater director Colin Egan said that the band filmed scenes for the video from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Egan said the band chose the movie palace because of its ornate decorations and that the theater has gained a reputation in the entertainment industry for being a great shooting location.

At some point, word got out that the rock band was in Jersey City and fans crowded outside the theater. As band members left the theater, they graciously posed for pictures and signed autographs, Egan said.

The Strokes' single "Under Cover of Darkness" was released Feb. 9 and will be on their new album, "Angles," which will be released March 22.

Triple Wow ....

Garrison was also among a number of off-duty officers who were sued in connection with an alleged assault on Hudson County Sheriff's Officer Sean McGovern outside a bar near Lincoln Park in November 1997.

Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said yesterday the city paid out $175,000 to settle the lawsuit.

Then-County Sheriff Joseph Cassidy told The Jersey Journal at the time that McGovern suffered a broken and bitten nose, a concussion and other injuries during a fight with Garrison outside the bar.

Wow?.

In December, Officer Rick Garrison was one of the officers involved in hiding the car keys of persons attending a fund-raiser for Mayor Jerramiah Healy during a police union protest, sources said.

The keys were snatched from the valet booth and tossed into bushes nearby. After a department hearing, the officers lost personal days as punishment for their actions, according to a Police Department spokesman.

Double Wow?

The prosecutor said his office will also look into Garrison's medical records to see if some illness may have caused the crash.

(but they let him drive around in a cop car????)

They call it that Jersey bounce
A rhythm that really counts
The temperature always mounts

That tune called the Jersey Bounce

Uptown, gave it new licks
Downtown, added some tricks
No town, make it sound the same
As where it came from

So if you don't feel so hot
Go out to some Jersey spot
And whether you're hep or not
The Jersey bounce'll make you swing

Puts you right in the swing

Bayonne woman says off-duty cop's vehicle grazed her car before plowing into SUV that was carrying woman who died

Published: Monday, February 21, 2011, 8:51 PM
Updated: Tuesday, February 22, 2011, 5:45 AM

She had just gotten her hair done and was driving home yesterday, and when she stopped at a red light on Avenue E at 45th Street, she saw a black car bearing down in her rearview mirror.

In a reflexive move that possibly spared her serious injury, the 28-year-old Bayonne woman shifted her vehicle to the left, into the lane of oncoming traffic.

The black car, which was veering right, grazed her passenger-side rear bumper, blew the red light, and kept on going.

Jersey City off-duty cop involved in today's crash in Bayonne that caused woman's death, official confirms

Published: Sunday, February 20, 2011, 8:10 PM
Updated: Monday, February 21, 2011, 9:39 AM

An off-duty Jersey City police officer was one of the persons injured in today's car crash in Bayonne that took the life of an "elderly" woman, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio confirmed tonight.

The cop's role in the incident is still being determined, said DeFazio, adding the crash is being investigated by the Bayonne Police Department and Jersey City Police Department Internal Affairs and his office were notified.

The seven-vehicle wreck occurred at about 12:30 p.m. at Avenue E and East 36th Street.

Alcohol was not a factor in the incident, DeFazio said, noting that no one was arrested and no summonses were issued.

A total of six persons, including the dead woman, were taken to the Bayonne Medical Center. One of the injured persons was subsequently moved to University Hospital in Newark, a Bayonne Medical Center spokesman said.

The cause and manner of the woman's death will be determined by an autopsy expected to be completed tomorrow, said DeFazio, who declined to identify the woman.

wow lostinjc that is some news....this is from the piece

Hoppel said he observed the sky "all lit up" from the county seat in Lisbon, about 20 miles from the scene of the blast. Others up to 40 miles away reported seeing a glow, he said.

The explosion occurred in an area of farms in the rural county bordering on Pennsylvania and West Virginia, Hoppel said. "Had it been close to one of our villages or cities, why, it would have been much more serious," he added.

Company spokesman Richard Wheatley said the explosion involved a 36-inch, buried transmission line that carries natural gas through the region. Mechanisms in the section that "failed" automatically shut off the segment and the residual gas burned off, he said.

Wheatley did not immediately respond to a message Friday seeking information about the age and condition of the pipeline.

In 2007, El Paso Corp. agreed to a $15.5 million fine as part of a settlement with the government involving an explosion in 2000 near Carlsbad, N.M., that killed 12 people camping near a 50-year-old pipeline.

Jersey City City Council awards $3.2 million contract to former BA's reval company

Published: Wednesday, February 09, 2011, 9:03 PM
Updated: Wednesday, February 09, 2011, 9:05 PM

By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal

The Jersey City City Council voted tonight to award a $3.2 million contract to a tax appraisal company that employs Brian O'Reilly, the city's former business administrator.

Realty Appraisal Co. of West New York received the OK from the council to perform the upcoming citywide property revaluation, the city's first since 1988. The company had submitted the lowest of four bids.

City code forbids city employees from receiving, for one year after leaving the city, compensation from any entity in relation to projects with which the employee was directly involved.

But the city's legal department told the council there was no conflict of interest in awarding the contract to Realty Appraisal. Corporation Counsel William Matsikoudis said in a memo he is convinced, after speaking to city financial officials, that O'Reilly was not involved in any discussions of the reval in his last year of city employment.

The council awarded the contract 5-2-0, with council members Steven Fulop and Nidia Lopez voting "no." Councilwoman Viola Richardson was absent.

Fulop raised concerns about O'Reilly's employment with the company, saying he's not convinced by the legal department's opinion that there is no conflict of interest.

"From my viewpoint on the legalities, it's concerning," Fulop said. "But this council is going to do what this council wants to do, unfortunately."

Defending the council's decision, Council President Peter Brennan cited the legal department's opinion that O'Reilly, also formerly the city's tax assessor, had no involvement with the city's reval process during his time with the city.

Besides, Brennan said, Realty Appraisal's bid, which came in far under the next highest of the four bids, means a "savings of $2 million" for taxpayers.
And O'Reilly's employment with the company doesn't hurt, Brennan said.

"If anybody knows Jersey City, it's going to be Brian O'Reilly," he said.

So as the BA of the JC he knew nothing about the coming revaluation that?s been talked about for years. It was probably even talked about when O?Reilly was the TAX ASSESSOR of Jersey City! How much do you want to bet that before the reval is finished JC will need to come up with maybe $2 million so Realty Appraisal Co can finish the job.

Didn?t O?Rielly resign because he wanted to get a job closer to his home down south NJ? WNY really?? Something smells.

Plant burns in Mont Belvieu (Texas 2/8/2011)
Enterprise Products operates facility in Chambers Co.

By MIKE MORRIS and TOM FOWLER
Copyright 2011 Houston Chronicle

Shortly after noon a pipeline to Enterprise Products? natural gas plant exploded in Mont Belvieu, leaving one maintenance contractor unaccounted for, company officials said. The explosion occurred at the company's west storage facility.

Rick Rainey, public relations director for Enterprise Products, said there are normally eight to 10 workers in the facility located 35 miles east of Houston. All the workers got out safely, he said.

"As of right now our main concern is to make sure that we get this thing contained," Rainey said.
Hours after the explosion, the plant, which processes and stores liquids that are separated from natural gas, continues to burn. Nothing that is burning is toxic, Rainey said.

Pipelines to the plant were shut down so no new flows come into the facility. But the liquids in the pipe are continuing to burn.

Chases thieves - and gets hurt

When the cell phone of a Macy's employee at Jersey City's Newport Centre Mall was stolen from behind the counter she followed the thieves out of the mall and to ShopRite, where she was assaulted when she demanded her phone, officials said.

The 26-year-old Brooklyn woman told police on Sunday that her phone was taken while she was helping a customer and a fellow employee pointed out the girl who took it, reports said. The girl left the mall with a woman wearing a purple coat and a pregnant woman who was carrying an infant, reports said.

The victim followed them out of the mall to ShopRite, where she demanded the phone and the girl said "Mommy, give her back her phone," but one of the women said "We don't have the phone," reports said.

The woman in the purple coat took out a sock with what appeared to be a pad lock in it and tried to hit the victim, but she was able to knock it out of the woman's hand, reports said. The pair then began fighting, but the victim fell and was struck twice on the head with the sock while she was down, cutting her forehead, reports said.

Bleeding and dizzy, the victim walked back to Macy's and was driven to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment of her head injury, reports said.
