Hats off to you, byebyesteve. Of all the Healy trolls who have staggered/wobbled their way onto JCList, you are the first to be upfront about your agenda. Clearly, by asking who will run the city's departments, you are concerned about your job. (Plus you used "we" when talking up Healy's "accomplishments" in another thread.)

I'm sure if you are a hard-working person who is qualified for his job and not just some slob who was given his job because he served drinks to the mayor at his favorite bar then you will have nothing to worry about.

Ego? You are going to bring up ego? The Levin ego has left him (Levin) blind to what everyone else sees. The angry man running the Hillary Clinton 2008 "it's my turn" entitled campaign, lecturing everyone on what he knows best and no one else can possibly know? That guy? The next question he asks of someone will be his first.

Levin is funny - he insists on all the credit for pay to play in a "I invented it sort of way." There really is nothing original in what he proposes (or any of the candidates, for that matter.) It's not about inventing ideas, it's about getting things done - which Fulop has done and Candice does. There is a pretty big disconnect between many of the accomplishments Levin claims, such as:

Claim: "Worked with city officials to create more than 30 miles of bicycle lanes, which will be installed throughout Jersey City in the summer of 2013."

Reality: after four years, four blocks of bike lanes exist in the city - although I did see (as part of Healy's Spendapalooza leading up to the election) some bike lane action yesterday so who knows? Maybe we will end up with a full mile by May 14.

Claim: Led the effort to have Jersey City adopt thenPay to Play ordinances, the toughest ethics reforms in NJ.

Reality: was part of a group of many people who tried valiantly but ultimately it was Fulop who got it done.

WeBe/Phoney/Billy Mats- please keep believing what you are "hearing". It's obviously very personal for you - you must spend at least six hours a day posting innuendo about Steve being gay and lies about any number of things on NJ.com and other places. We may not be political "pro's" like you (desperate to hold on to your job because the market for you after May 15 if Fulop wins is buggy whip-like), but seems like you need to rethink your gameplan. You post madeup sh!t like a ten year old and you expect people to believe it??

The mayor conceded downtown about fifteen minutes after high tide during the hurricane and hasn't been seen on the streets of Ward e since.

Idiot, yes. Teacher, no. He's just a six-figure goon whose job is to spread fear. A friend of mine on the JCEA told me that Fulop didn't even get invited to interview with their panel to try to get their endorsement.

Sounds like another gorilla who is afraid of a merit-based world.

Downtown? Not likely. Levin is going to end up getting precious little from Chuckles the Mayor, be it money or coattails. If he (Levin) were running at-large, I'd buy it. Fact of the matter is that if anyone is providing coattails, it's Levin. However, so many people - the True Believers - are turned off by the suddenly transactional nature of his "calculation" that i wouldn't bet against Fletch (6'5", 6'9" with the afro) beating him out for second....

There are a number of suitable political sayings I could throw in here to try and make sense of Dan's decision but "politics makes odd bedfellows" seems the most appropriate.

Surely you realize Dan has little crony capital in this town. Sure, he has some friends in parts of DT but without Healy, his backers and access to campaign funds he is dead in the water.

It's comical that a lot of these posters think Dan has lost his moral compass in being on Healy's ticket. This is not some new form of political maneuvering. It happens all time in cities all over this nation. Many who don't know the landscape immediately react like you and think the person has lost their minds.

Look, these guys are grown-ups and like Republicans and Democrats crossing the isle to work on an issue or bill together that is all that Dan is doing. In a sense he is sacrificing some initial fallout to get a spot at the party. Once he's got that seat he will distant himself from the toxicity that is Mayor Healy.

That would all make sense except:

1. He's crossing the aisle to bed down with the guy he made his name bashing for the last several years and, even worse (for him)

2. If he's successful - and his efforts to get Healy re-elected are successful too - he will be impotent. Even more than he is now. Levin only exists (politically) because there is a Healy in the first place. Healy has spent the last nine years demonstrating that he has zero interest in any of the things Dan is supposed to be about. Daniel the Dragonslayer is going to change all that? Who isn't being real?

Couldn't agree with you more on this one though. Watching Levin dutifully revise history (both his and the city's) so as not to upset Healy's lap was embarrassing to watch, regardless of who you support.

I find the whole Levin approach interesting - they come out swinging at Osbourne: "she's not qualified to run. I am the only one who has blah blah blah blah." If that's true - why does he bother bashing her every chance he gets? If he was really qualified and she was as unqualified as he'd like people to believe, then he'd leave her alone and be magnanimous, right? People would ride down the bike lane to nowhere and smile, thinking of all the many Levin accomplishments and Osbourne wouldn't have a chance...

Clearly she's qualified - with the significant advantage of having people skills and the ability to both speak AND listen...

"look up a pac, better jc inc., not a lot of money, but everything is wrong with it."

Someone else compared it to another situation and questioned a previous post. That same guy, Daniel Levin then said:

" its all wrong."

Oddly (or not, depending on how you view the world) that thread had 40-something posts in it last night. It has since been deleted back to four, the deletes include the exchange referenced above.

One advantage Dan is enjoying is access to funding sources he wouldn't previously have had. Examples include $7,800 from Bayonne Mayor and HCDO chairman Mark Smith as well as $7,800 from Assemblyman Jason O'Donnell.

Funny you'd feel the need to convince people you haven't changed, Dan. If you felt so strongly about those three things, why on earth would you run with someone who:

1. Let boards and commissions rot for years - allowing, for instance, the Enviornmental Commission to remain dormant for close to five years by failing to appoint ANYONE to the empty spots on the commission. In addition, very few (far less than 10%) of the people appointed by Healy to boards and commissions come from outside the ranks of city or county employees, or relatives thereof.

2. Resisted the formation of an ethics code for years.

3. Employees business administrators who consistently produce budgets anywhere between seven and ten months late. Who the hell cares what a budget looks like in Baltimore when ours is approved after 3/4 of the money is spent every year.

What you are advocating for is all good - and not original. Many people who have looked at the city budget for years have suggested similar/the same things. That you think teaming with the guy who is 100% opposed to the things you profess to stand for is so odd it defies reasonable explanation. That he will run his campaign and strategize almost entirely without your input is just sad. You shoulda been a contender, Dan. Happy New Year.

I guess everyone has their price. Levin will be able to say he ran his usual 99 cent "grass roots" campaign while enjoying all of the spending done on his behalf by the people he's spent the past half-dozen years railing against. I'm sure there he will have a great, common sense explanation, why he takes a county job in a few months as well. Hey - we all have to look out for ourselves.

Kind of like that one week sensation, Esther Wintner. Screaming and yelling at the administration with choreographed histrionics and catchy slogans just a year or so ago. Give her a position on the library board and she purrs like a kitty for Healy now. Predictable. Some people just need a little attention.

Re: Dan Levin in talks to run with Healy

Maybe by running with Healy, Levin hurts Fulop, maybe he doesn't. Maybe Fulop's council candidate in E gets hurt but Fulop is helped. Maybe none of the above. Who knows for sure? But this is undeniable: Dan Levin wants to endorse an administration that has been synonymous with corruption amd bribery in order to get elected and yet has has always gone to great lengths to say he is not a politician out for himself? How does that work?

Look at Dan's entire track record of comments. This is such an abrupt departure from everything he has ever said publicly. He has consistently called out the politically expedient and quid pro quo arrangements - how is this really any different? I am just curious how endorsing someone synonmous with bribery because it helps him personally can be viewed in a tactical vacuum and not as an indication of character? Imagine the picture of the people he's endorsing - Healy, Brennan, Sottolano, potentially Lipski, potentially Epps... He may believe the ends justify the means, but for my money I can't imagine the majority of the true Levinites are going to be able to stomach that.

For contrast: Here's a Levin posting from late last October. Maybe it was just "test messaging" for the 2013 run? Figuring out how to "tweak" the message - or abandon it altogether?

Levin for Council - Vote - November 8, 2011

October 25, 2011

Message from Dan

Corruption, double dipping, patronage and cronyism are interfering with the city's ability to thrive and move forward. Fleeing residents has led to the dismal 3% population growth reflected in the decennial 2010 Census despite a development boom of historic proportions.

It is time to end the "who you know" culture of Jersey City government and instead govern by "right and wrong" and rule of law.

I am running for Jersey City Council At-Large in the November 8th special election with a simple mission: to improve the decisions made by our city. I will bring a clear, common sense vision and sound management approach to help solve our problems and build on our opportunities. The needs of the residents will be central to my considerations and actions.

With your support, we can -
Ban campaign contributions in city offices
Implement a strict government ethics code
Implement community based policing.
Eliminate semi-autonomous agencies for substantial cost savings and improved accountability
Bring planning tools to the budget process
Create a multi-year financial plan supported by a Municipal Budget Commission
Subject Tax Abatement agreements to rigorous review by a budget commission
Implement a functional Shade Tree Commission
Implement bike lanes
Fix the Journal Square Taxi stand to provide residents with the service they deserve
Fix the entertainment ordinance allowing bars and restaurants to offer live entertainment
Provide improved notification to property owners subject to redevelopment plans
Have stronger tools to encourage interim use for large vacant lots
Development of a public market

Let us speak with one voice for a safer, more vibrant city, for stable taxes and sensible spending, for sound solutions.

- Dan Levin

Re: Dan Levin in talks to run with Healy

Dan - thanks for addressing the issue, but isn't your "positioning" the absolute height of hypocrisy? Of course politics involves expediency and ideals sometimes get sacrificed... but this??? You would endorse, campaign with and appear on literature with double dippers, abatement junkies, tax doublers (taxes up over 90% since Healy took office), nepotists, patrons and (potentially) Lipski (all of the above and then some - don't stand next to him in the team picture.....)??? Agreeing to serve on a board in a particular administration is a far different thing than choosing to run for office with them. There often is no alternate route to participate for the average citizen if s/he turns down a board seat. You certainly could choose to run with others or alone - it's not an all or nothing proposition for you, but perhaps selling out for the seat justifies all that in your mind. Leon Yost presents himself as a historic preservationist to get a position on the planning board. You present yourself as the ultimate reformer, holding elected officials to the highest possible standards in order to.... sign up with the worst of them? Would Mayor Healy have you on his slate? What do you think? He took Guy Catrillo last time - pretty low bar to clear. Your words may be technically accurate "I have not met or talked yet with Mayor Healy about his 2013 campaign" but it's fair to say you've had these conversations with his lieutenant(s), no? So, Dan - I ask you: What would this guy say about all this?

Dan Levin joins Healy ticket as ward E Council candidate
Home away from home
Home away from home

Rumor has it Dan Levin has been in discussions regarding a Healy/Levin marriage with Dan running for the Ward E council seat on the Healy ticket.

I asked my friend who told me about it three times if this could possibly be true - couldn't be the Healy whose administration was gutted by the Dwek bribery scandal, the Healy who saw three of his first four deputy mayors arrested, the Healy who fought mightily against pay to play reforms - so near and dear to Dan's heart. Not the Healy who fights against transparency and good government in all shapes and sizes - the things Dan espouses on his website.

A Healy/Levin marriage is in the dogs sleeping with cats category. Is Dan that desperate to get elected that he'd lay down with Jerry? I would have thought Dan would sooner not run than consider partnering with the man who is the embodiment of everything Dan proclaims to loathe.

Dan?
