The way i see it is this,a guy gets in a fight and is arrested, goes to court and is found not guilty, then the state should remove this from the record.

As it is now all arrests are on the record regardless if you have been found guilty. The process of expungement is expensive and to complicated to do alone.

Good bill but very bad promotion.

non violent crimes should be cleared from your record automatically after five years unless you do something new, then all your old stuff should resurface. This way you have incentives to stay clean.

This is the second lie healy has been caught in lately.
First he got caught lieing about Abatements on the waterfront, now in todays JJ he says people should have one job and one pension.

Half his staff are on more than one payroll. His cheif of staff Carl zibliki is on at least three and all are adding to his future pension.

If this was really what he wanted then why are seven of his council picks collecting two checks and accruing pension benefits for both.

We should have a running thread on this board of all the Heally lies starting with "gee i don't really know how i got on the porch that night"(New York Times)

Abatement deals for 3 projects get council OK
Saturday, November 11, 2006
By KEN THORBOURNE
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
Jersey City continues to shower waterfront developments with tax abatements.

On Wednesday, the City Council introduced 20-year abatements for three projects that are either right on the waterfront or a stone's throw from the Hudson River.

As he voted against the abatements, Ward E Councilman Steve Fulop, who represents the waterfront area, pointed out that Mayor Jerramiah Healy campaigned on a platform that abatements were no longer needed to attract investment to the waterfront.

"This can't get any closer to the water without being in the water," Fulop said of a 269-unit condominium project slated for the foot of Second Street.

Healy's spokeswoman, Maria Pignataro, disputed Fulop's characterization of the mayor's campaign stance. "The mayor has always said he would take them (abatements) on a case-by-case basis, and is always looking to bring more ratables and investment into the city," Pignataro said.

During an editorial board meeting with The Jersey Journal prior to the November 2004 special election, Healy indicated that he did not believe abatements were necessary on the waterfront.

Besides the Second Street project, the council voted to introduce abatements for Monaco North and Monaco South, a development consisting of two 47-story towers with 541 market rate rental units at Washington Boulevard and Sixth Street.

The council voted 6-2 for those abatements, as well as for the Second Street development, with Ward F Councilwoman Viola Richardson joining Fulop in voting against them and Ward C Councilman Steve Lipski absent. The abatements will be up for adoption Nov. 21.

The council also introduced, by an 8-0 vote, a 20-year abatement for 100 Water St., a 112-unit market rate condo project slated for Claremont Avenue on the city's West Side.

The benefit of tax abatements as far as city officials are concerned is they don't have to share the payment-in-lieu-of-taxes negotiated with the developers with the school district or county government.

Opponents argue that abatements unfairly shift the tax burden to those without abatements and shortchange the county and school district.

Hotel and convention center would be great. Why the city would want to leave the car pound there is stupid.Put it in an industrial zone and sell that property too.

While their at it open up jersey ave to traffic.I know people hate this idea but thats my opinion and i'm sticking with it.

Look at the little dog run in vvp we are all going ga ga over, you could fence off a football feild in LSP and actually run with your dog.Nothing fancy just chain link and grass.

The skinny on this nut job from newport is that she is a stalker.I heard that when she was on good terms with the councilmen she would call ten times a day and get very mad when he sometimes would not pick up the phone.

She is now doing the samething to the mayors office so look for her to start bashing him when they can no longer take it anymore.

Aussie, if you only knew how many councilmen have family on the city payroll your head would spin, perhaps counter clock wise but spin none the less.
Lets not even talk about freinds.Of the nine councilmen i would say there are at least thirty family members on the county, city and various boards. All paid and with Benefits.

This is why anyone who works for the county should not be able to be a City councilperson.Conflict of intrest is built into the job discription. The PJP site is just one example.

Vega runs the county parks and would be the one overseeing the golf course. How many more employees will he want to work the site.

Spinello works for the JCIA which is responsible for inspec ting sites like PJP for complience. Her working for a city agency in and of its self is a conflict. She votes on her own budget.

As for the rest of the council some are more in the gray zone than others.

Willie Flood is now running for County Register and her husband is the chairman of the JCIA,making him spinello's boss.

Steve lipski, what else needs to be said, the guys got a tattoo of Steve Hymen on his ass.

Bill Gaughan is chief of staff to county ex.Tom DeGise and will no doubt have a phone and fax installed at every tee on the golf course so as not to miss work while he golfs
.
Pete brennan also works for the county ex and has a conflict with the PJP landfill becoming a golf course as he will be the one who carries Bill Gaughans golf bag and does all the washing of the balls and such.

Viola richardson also works for the county at the jail and may have to strip search wild and crazy bill and pete after they have been arrested on the course for fighting with other golfers over tee times.

That leaves Satalano and Fulop. What a City.......

You watch, now Troy will get a sweet job with the County plus his his 97,000 pension.Only in J.C. can you fail upward. Now Healy will make his other pal Comey chief so Comey can get his time in as chief and bump up his pension to Troy's level. All three are a disgrace, playing games with the most important department in the city.Forget about a nation wide search, best man for the job,all the things a competant mayor would do,Healy has been exposed(no pun intended)as nothing more than a drunken political hack who is padding the payroll for his disreputable cronies.
Jersey City will continue to be a second class city as long as this fool is in office.2009 can't come soon enough........

There is no distinction between the two on the ballot. However, Sires is running uncontested for the two month term. Whichever row has both Vas and Sires is the election for the full two year term.

Vas claims that he was somehow tricked by Corzine into thinking that there wasn't a special election. Frankly, if you are running for that seat, you make sure you have all your ducks and a row and get on the ballot in all spots.

It was an inexplicable blunder in what has otherwise been a pretty aggressive campaign by Vas.

It was mentioned that one option could be to write-in a vote for Vas on line 3.

What will happen is this,if Vas wins Sires will have to remove his name from the Nov.ballot.In order for Sires to be a congressmen for six weeks he would have to step done as mayor and state assemblymen,he is not going to give up that power.Plus the powers that be will force him to do it for the party. So in reality the confusion is on the sires side.If your for Vas you know were he is right smack in the middle of the ballot.Go Vas.......

wha? As opposed to representing the Republican wing of the Democratic Party?

While Vas sounds like a decent guy who can definitely take credit for turning around Perth Amboy, I don't like this positioning him as a "non-machine" or clean candidate. While its true he's not a member of the HCDO machine, that doesn't mean he doesn't have his fingers in plenty of pies down in Middlesex Co. And he is definitely well funded, that campaign money came from somewhere (not his own pockets).

Which brings me to my last point. I hate the fact that in NJ people can run for multiple elected positions. There is something inherently power concentrating and corrupt in this process. But since it is the process I would rather have my double-dipping rep. be local. Will Vas remain as mayor of Perth Amboy and also represent Jersey City and Perth Amboy equally? I doubt it. We're seeing a lot of him now that he needs JCs votes. But will we see him much after a Vas win in November?

Love that vas deferens joke! Poor guy has probably been hearing that since 10th grade biology.

Did you know that Albio Sires was Republican until 1990.He last ran for this con.seat in 1986 as a extreme anti abortion NRA endorsed candidate.
As for dual job holding either winner can only be a congressman
there is no dual office holding at the federal level.
When i met Vas at the HCA meeting he pledged to open his main office downtown on newark ave.
As for a local guy being better, what has Sires ever done for Jersey City. There are six weeks left lets check them both out and try to pick a candidate who is best for Jersey City.

Ok DFA i'm on board. As i said during the BOE election we need to get together to show strength. One thing i have learned about this Joe Vas,he has been mayor of Perth Amboy for 15 years and totally rebuilt the waterfront without one ABATEMENT.
The lit.that i have gotten so far has been very clean and informative.I am sure mr. Vas is about to get a severe dose of hudson county slime though.
I would also like to see a debate. Why can't the JC list board send a questionare to both candidates and see where they stand on our issues,The Embankment,Bergen Arches,Reservior, finishing the walkway, affordable housing etc.

39 absentee ballots were all that made the difference for the incumbents.40 people on this board could have done it.this is why City Hall thinks it can do whatever it wants.
The real question that needs to get answered is what happened to the 600 absentee ballots not counted. The paper said that 950 people requested ballots but only 380 voted?
Something stinks, many people in the housing sites never got their ballots in the mail, then were denied the right to vote on election day.

I Hate to sound like a broken record but i must keep pushing 12a Mahdi hemingway.
This guy is in the projects 24/7 trying to make a difference. He works in the after school mentering program, runs a basket ball league to keep kids off the streets and knows how to get the kids attention.
Last summer he and steve Fulop organized feild trips to Great adventure,Shea stadium and a broadway show.
Mahdi will shake up the system and we need to give him a shot. With this being a holiday week it may be an all time low turn out, less than 1000 votes may win.

Please vote for Mahdi Hemingway on 12a, this guy is the real deal.Young enough to relate to the same kids roaming our streets and smart and tough enough to set them straight. We vote in a young man from the projects and city hall will have a fit. OK, Mahdi runs an after school program for kids in trouble and would like all schools open till six pm.
Runs a basketball tournimant yearly between dif. housing sites to relive tention.
Aide to councilmen Steve Fulop.
Endorced by local DFA...Democracy for america.
Endorced by parent group seeking televised board meetings.
backed by late mayor Glen Cunninghams wife sandy.
This is an astounding young man who can make a difference if given a chance.

I thought i would bring this other post back up so as to keep them both current till tuesdays election.
Councilmen Fulop has picked three candidates he feels comfortable with and i agree with at least one and that is Mahdi Hemingway.
Mahdi works with the kids in the housing sites every day with an after school program that needs to be expanded.
Crime and education go hand in hand and he is the one person running that can bridge that gap.Can any other candidate walk in to the Booker Tee housing site and talk to the kids.Mahdi and vernon would just shake this old time hack board up.
Lastly in a city of 240,000 voters only 5000 people vote in a school board. An average of 800 vote downtown, bring that to 1800 and watch city hall pay attention.take a shot, vote tues. and every issue we have downtown will then be backed by a real voting block.
We have got to pay attention to our kids now or deal with the consequences later.

I have brought this post back because i think the DFA is the right group to get behind downtown. As opposed to all the different and diverse groups that we have downtown, each with its own agenda, the DFA is a political org. with a political philosophy that actually encompasses all the ideas of most downtown organizations.
We should organize a DFA chapter downtown as a means of forming a voting block that can compete with the city hall machine.
With that said i am voting for the DFA backed candidates in the tues. school board election.I urge everyone to do the same and pick the third candidate of their own choosing.
A thousand downtown votes would rock City Hall on its heels.
