But let me tell you something about the sort of people we're dealing with - at VVP there is an asshole with a MEGAPHONE that yells at people in the dog run when dogs bark. If ever there is insanity that needs the cops involved it is that guy rather than some yapping dogs in a dog run.

That's classic. I have to witness this.

The Jersey City Fire Department made city history today when Tara Walker became the first black woman firefighter in the department's 143-year history.

"I knew there were a few women; they were teasing me, and things like that," Walker said in a Ch. 7 Eyewitness News interview.

Walker, 31, a high school girls basketball legend who scored 2,376 points in her Marist High School career, is now one of six women in the department. She was one of 26 sworn in at the City Hall ceremony.

The diverse class includes two black men, four Hispanic men and an Asian man, city officials pointed out.

"Now today is really a great day because if you look at the 26 men and women sitting to my right, to your left, it really represents everything that is great about Jersey City," Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop said at the ceremony. "It is a diverse class, it is a young class, it is a motivated class, it is a class of people that have dedicated and lived their lives here in Jersey City."

The new class brings the number of Jersey City firefighters to 557. City officials said that 47 members have been hired since Fulop took office.

Congrats to her. I'm surprised it took that long.
However I'd like to hear how many people got skipped that were above her on the list. I'd also like to hear from some involved individuals how the paramaters of the physical, biodata and written tests were massaged to get the results they wanted. If the answer is "not at all", great but I've been part of and read about the games that they play with those tests to get desired results.

I don't think knowing a certain number of black people on a deep level allows you to know what "black people" are like as a race/group. That's racism by definition (racial stereotyping that directly leads to racism). All people are unique. You can't apply a few qualities/ideals of a few black people to an entire race; it doesn't work that way.

I think Pebble makes some great points. This argument/discussion should be about poverty, not about black people. I think that's the biggest problem with what that reporter said.

Ok, let's talk about poverty. Do you know which racial group has the highest poverty rate in NYC? Asians.

29% live below the poverty level, compared to 26% of Hispanics, 23% of blacks and 14% of whites.

Guess this indisputable fact blows up the "progressive" narrative. And it suggests the reporter was more correct than many want to admit.

Your anecdote is not enough evidence that this is in any way a good idea. How many dealers can they possibly have? Are they really getting paid the same rate they were 25 years ago?

actually, they're getting paid more. I understand that casinos are not good for a community. I accept that. The main reason I dont gamble is because I've seen what it does to people. I only wanted to point out that it can be beneficial for some people that aren't venture capitalists.

I also only want to do a mile or two at a time, which for me to get to LSP would add a couple of extra miles to that. Any other suggestions??

Da fuk?
Go outside of your apt door turn right (or left) start running.
Theres your place to run.
There's a track at ferris if you want to keep your lap time.

The closure to vehicular traffic on Sundays will be a hardship to me and my 501c3 non profit, Companion Animal Trust. Companion Animal Trust provides a free service to the City of Jersey City by rescuing, fostering, providing medical care, and rehoming stray cats.

We do cat adoptions every Sunday at Fussy Friends at 148 Newark Avenue from 11 am - 5pm. Since we started our partnership with Fussy Friends in 2012 we have adopted out 163 cats.

Each Sunday we drive the cats and our equipment to the store, unload and then find appropriate parking. If the street is closed to us, will someone from the Harsimus Cove Association step up and carry these heavy items for us?

The owners of Fussy Friends do not support this closure either. Customers purchase heavy bags of litter and food almost weekly and use their cars to transport it home. If they cannot bring their cars onto Newark Avenue Fussy Friends will lose these customers.

True. If your building has more than a certain number of units (I think it's 5) and has off street parking availble, you're not allowed a permit.

Burglars don't just show up in troves. Most burglars are serial burglars. They often work with 1 or 2 others and repeatedly hit an area till they are caught or decide to get out while the gettings good. People always assume there is just a whole bunch of people breaking into properties but that's wrong.

Where are people assuming that?
