How Much Are Our Air Rights Worth And How Do We Collect?
Home away from home
Home away from home

The 2060 Plan that covers the area of Jersey City surrounding the Journal Square PATH Station gives property owners air rights. Now that the City has given permission to a developer to go 42 stories high behind the PATH Station, I'd like to know how much nearby property owners get from the developer and how we collect. Does anyone know?

My cats are happy when they see Dr. Fede.

So those of you who are OK with possible illegal apartments and possible illegal rooming houses and possible illegal motels are OK with violations of zoning laws? That's scary. Even scarier is that Mayor Healy and his administration would allow zoning violations to continue as long as the offending party pays. Wouldn't that be a bribe?

Re: Parking Ticket Issue

This is a big issue! The Parking Authority doesn't have to appear in court to prove their position so they don't care about accuracy. Last week I watched at Parking Authority supervisor walk past a car parked at a fire hydrant and issue a ticket to my neighbor who was parked in front of it. The neighbor told me the ticket was for an expired meter. Here's the kicker: there is no meter there. My neighbor was told he had to go to court to fight the the ticket. How is it the Parking Authority can't or won't retract tickets in situations like these?

I had a solid maple cabinet repaired by a master carpenter and it ran me $150 plus materials, total under $200. He's only available evenings, Saturdays, and when it rains (he can't do his regular construction job when it rains) but he's worth the wait. Email me for his contact information.

I called Secaucus for a price quote last week for teeth cleaning on my 100 pound dog and 7 pound cat. I was told it's the same, $754 for each. After reading this forum I was able to locate my animals' old vet, Dr. Thorton-now Dr. Fede-at the Edison Animal Hospital and we drove down to see her this past Tuesday. I don't know who was happier to see her, my pets or me.

I used the advice from John Kohler at www.growingyourgreens.com and had good results...John says if you have healthier soil, you'll have healthier plants that will resist most pests, except for those damned slugs which copper tape works on. His recipe includes rock dust, worm casings, and compost tea are very effective.

Re: 42-story residential tower on tap for Journal Square

If the tower is inside the 2060 Plan, there's supposed to be air rights involved. This means the developer has to pay surrounding property owners for each foot of airspace he uses to build higher than originally allowed. Isn't anyone negotiating this? The developer doesn't have to pay income taxes on his profits due to a tax break for developing near public transportation which means he has some pretty deep pockets to pick.

I have a handyman built like an ox who did a lot of garden work and heavy lifting for me. Let me know if you want his number.

I'm not black either but the being poor part is open to interpretation, heh heh
I moved to Journal Square from the Heights a few months ago and I'm loving it. It gets real quiet at night and I enjoy that after working all day. Plus everything is within walking distance from where I am...the post office, three banks, grocery shopping, the PATH station, doctors, dentists, cheap eats. What's not to like!!
That being said, I agree there aren't enough parks and Lincoln Park is too far to stroll to it. Maybe the JC Parks Coalition and Sustainable Jersey City can get involved to change that.

There's a gentleman in Bergen Lafayette who's a direct descendant of one of original landowners in Bergen Square, from the 1600's. I'm trying to convince him to register. His wife says he doesn't like the limelight. I may have my work cut out for me.

Freecycle is awesome!

I've given away quite a few items including a solid wood four poster bed from a house on Bentley Ave, organic pepper plants, and a hand held vacume that I used exactly twice. Everyone is so kind and it's uncomplicated.

There are only four posts allowed: OFFER, TAKEN, WANTED, RECEIVED.

It's fabulous for people who have stuff that's too good to throw in the garbage but not a whole lot of time to place it through other channels.
